Scrivener for iPad // writing without limits

I absolutely love Scrivener for a variety of reasons - It has fabulous tools for things like plotwork, character design, and overall structure for writing. For my organization-loving mind, it’s amazing!
But the absolute best thing Scrivener offers is an app for on-the-go access. This means I can keep going on my writing no matter where I am.
In this vid I go over how I use both my MacBook and my iPad to work on the same project across the two devices. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of everything and get it all set up - don't sleep on this feature!

"When in doubt, Sync!" That could be a life motto lmao 🤣 I love using the mobile app on my phone but I wish it had same as aesthetic with the inspector and binder as the desktop. I am thinking of getting an iPad Pro with my tax refunds for video edits and better mobile writing experience. Was curious if the aesthetics were fancier on the iPad but looks like the same as iPhone. Still looks incredibly useful though for writing! Great video 👍

Haha - it's certainly one of my mottos... and yup, I think the app is relatively the same as the mobile version. Which is, of course, why I also prefer the desktop. I love all that complex functionality. But it's lovely for working on the go!

I have the iPad as my traveling ‘laptop’ with the Logitech keyboard/case combo on the 10.9 inch. So when I saw that Scriv was for the iPad, I grabbed it and have since moved to Scrivener from Google Docs. Now I still have the Google Docs as a backup, I usually copy paste into the google doc before I finish for the day. I am LOVING Scrivener for background stuff like the character docs, the plot docs, research docs and all of that jazz. It has been a lifesaver and just about time as it’s PREPTOBER! As of this comment. I will most likely be using the app to run my NaNoWriMo 2023 story, that I sorta already started, but have barely 1400 words on. Barely over a 20th of the 50k….

FYI, scrivener syncs better with Grammarly than Word. Although there is a grammarly for word, you are limited in the document size and you don’t get the full pro version of grammarly. You might want to do a video on using grammarly with Scrivener. It’s cool.

Thanks for this. Will check it out in detail. As a king-time user of Scrivener, I was very excited, then immediately disappointed, when the iOS version came out. Syncing was just so fiddly and I messed up a couple of (thankfully) test projects. Now I’d like a second look but to my amazement Scrivener has no recent video tutorial, which I hope doesn’t mean they haven’t updated the sync feature since back then. It’s still a great application but I’m getting tired of writing hundreds of bits and pieces in the Notes app and then struggling to put them into some kind of order back at my desk. Let’s see. But thanks anyway for a well-presented tutorial.

Jessica, outstanding video and I am a new subscriber. You describe working with the iPad and Scrivener using only dropbox and also describing the synchronization issues caused by Dropbox, which my Dropbox account is littered with double folders and synchronization issues that have rendered using dropbox less than ideal. I have gone away from Dropbox and I’m using Microsoft one drive which synchronizes much better and has terrific search features based on OCR. Is there any way to set the iPad up using OneDrive instead of dropbox? So far I have not found a way. Appreciate your input and look forward to your future videos and watching some of your past videos. Thank you

Well that really depends on how you enjoy working... I love having the multi-panel options in order to see the overview of all my notes and plot work while I'm drafting, so personally I'd choose the desktop/PC version. The iPad has less functionality that way, but obviously is lovely to have on the go. Hope that helps! 💕

Does anyone know how to organize pages in the iPad version? I’ve recently bought it but I find it very frustrating to not be able to see how my text looks on the actual pages of the book. I tried a web research but couldn’t find an answer. I’d like to add/remove pages, see a preview so that I can see if the line of a paragraph ends up being alone in a new page f.i

Yeah, it's interesting they only have the one provider for a syncing option. But I assume this avenue means they have less maintenance to do for bugs/fixes. And of course, people can use it across platforms (PC and Mac).

Sorry for the late reply - easy fix for this! That is the designated color of the label I've assigned. So first you'll need to right click on the section you want to label and assign the label (they'll have an associated color). Then to get it to display, you go to the menu at the top to control the display. Click on: View --> Use Label Color In --> Binder. And huzzah! It should should show straight away. Hope that helps!

Hello there, first of all: Thank you for the nice video. It was very informative for me to watch and brought me nearer to Scrivener. The video is put nicely together, content and audio is pretty smooth and you do a great job moderating it. I am currently trying to get a bit more into writing, all of my ideas and projects are at this time stored in word documents. Scrivener came across my view when i was learning on Udemy lately, i saw an regarding course and since then i am trying to get more and more information and points of views / reviews. I think i am just downloading it later this day and try to test the demo a bit. Maybe this software can enhance my writing game so i can someday publish one of my ideas. Edit: I will absolutely try it on ipad i actually enjoy the demo on pc and i will keep you updated on what my opinion as an absolute beginner is, after i tried it 🙂 Thanks again! Have a nice day and stay safe. Greetings from Germany.
