marillion should play this song every concert, it's a hymn
Watching this in 2024 thinking where has the time gone ! But wow I needed to hear this today , what a masterpiece!
Dear friends, Hogarth is one of the best singers we've heard. See how he gets emotional at the end of the song. We thank you for having the opportunity to hear Marillion playing this music we love so much. Long live Steve Hogarth and Marillion!

This is the most wonderful song in the world, Mr. Hogarth sings it with his heart and soul.
This actually DID bring tears to my eyes. The script freaking works!!! H does an amazing job on this one! I'm off to chew some more daffodils...
Honestly, I can't stop listening to this version. Steve does it with with such emotion that gets to me. I think this is the best version I've ever heard of script. Love Marillion. I hope to see you guys someday! Love from Argentina
Mr Hogarth did this song justice in the way he performed it, musically its Marillion and H hit the notes and keys to make us all embrace this version, round of applause for the band. 👏🏻
Thats got to be a hard song to sing, very emotional performance particularly towards the end. You can feel his heart breaking and see his despair. Great performance. Thank you for posting.
Absolutely brilliant interpretation of a masterpiece! Bravo!
Only just discovered this. Definitely one to bookmark for use when someone says “H doesn’t take the Fish era songs seriously”.
First time I have heard Hogarth sing this awesome song, he did more than well
I like both Fish and H. IMO this is an excellent, emotional performance of a classic song

After watching this all I can say is OUTSTANDING !!! I have seen recent videos of Fish trying to do this and he has a very hard time with the old songs as Peter cannot and will not do old Genesis songs because they just don't have the range anymore so hearing H doing this with such passion and hitting the notes necessary to make the song work is magic to me. People need to stop bashing H for doing the old songs. He does an incredible job and lets us hear what we love :)

This is one of the best ive seen of marillion in a long time, fish was the best in the 80s. Come on guys, marillion with Hogarth is still great. And Hogarth is into the music, you can see it, wonderfull to look.
H's performance here is almost unmatched. This was incredible.
Oh Rothery you sound magnifigent!
Quality performance from Mr H. Justice is served to this classic tune!
H is vocal god and a bloody fine performer
Smashed it :-)...what a band, terrific front man...awesome musicians.....rate with Pink Floyd, Genesis, Springsteen. Total gold :-)

Can't wait for the Marillion Weekend in Montreal July 2022. See you there!!!
Thank so much Mr. Hogarth
Been there, in fact am the one with the Argentinian flag! So thrilling...so emotional....H work here is magnificent.
I really wasn't expecting this to be as amazing as it was ! I was watching Recital Of The Script and those lumpy, plodding drums were really getting to me ( I owned it on VHS and then on DVD before anybody says anything :) So I searched for another live version and found this, beautiful! I love the way Hogarth makes it his own with a completely different feel with the timing of the lyrics.
WOW, so rare a band is better live than on recordings wish I was there
For one more time, this performance shows that Marillion music is more than melodies and words. It includes feeling excess which needs a great frontman like H. to carry this out. I follow the band since 1983. Fish has done a brilliant job, he gave us a great legacy and we thank him for that. Hogarth did something different, he widened and unlocked the band's music space giving us The Season's End. Up to this day, Marillion is the most inspired progressive band in my opinion. I really cried some years ago when I saw Fish performing live the great Lavender - a great primitive feeling. But now, 2018, the band is something else, something more, something bigger than Fish. In this video, H. explodes his heart out.

As a fish fan I have to say H does this, notoriously hard song to sing, justice. Even Derek finds it hard to sing nowadays...well done H.

@@johnwatson13 I actually enjoy the Fish vs. h debate, and you are correct. It is not within Hogarth to project venom, and how Fish and h put together songs is somehow essentially different in pace and tone. I can't really put a finger on it. They are just two artists with very different personalities, and the difference comes across quite clearly in their music. Not everybody is equipped to simply say "they are both great and I love all the music of Marillion".

Fish had cancer in the throat, changed his voice and capabilities. Both Fish and Hogarth are still waaaay better than any modern band or singer. I just like Fish era compositions and solo career better than Hogarth era. Not that Hogarth's work is terrible, it's great stuff also. I just like Fish suits my personal taste better, but I listen to both. Greetings from Brazil

Love Hogarth era and love Fish era. Continued success to both
...and 5 years after ( it is funny to read your own past comments), my mind finally opened. HOWARTH IS AWESOME and life is marvellous to give me this second chance and to let me recover all these "unknown for me" years of Marillion.
The change of tempo is awesome.
Some of you are stuck in the dark ages. Marillion are Marillion and H is the singer and he is a legend
Was a brilliant evening. Marillion were brilliant as usual. Down near the front, stage centre with a Frost* shirt on, singing my heart out! The next night when Brave was played was stunning.
What a magnificent performance. Thank you Marillion for still playing this song after so many years. It's obvious that you know how much nostalgia it arouses in your longtime fans. It might not be as complex as your current stuff (and may even sound juvenile in places), but it sure tugs at the heartstrings. And a big thanks to Steve Hogarth for putting out so much on a song that preceded his time with the band. Steve's interpretation adds a whole palette of new colours (starting at 4:56).
Best version.
Sends shivers down my spine - amazing!
Best lyrics in the world are written by Marillion, with Fish and with Steve. Saw them in 87 in Rotterdam, still with Fish, again in 89 Utrecht and in Tilburg, a few years ago. Respect that they are still touring the globe!!!

Don,t doubt the power of the "H"...... Great to see them playing this again
Amo Marillion e o Hogarth faz parte disso!!!

Great band, great song, great performance. And a singer that isn't gasping for breath after holding a note for more than two seconds. What more could one as for? One of many highlights from what I , having see six of them, think was their best 'weekend' yet! Is it possible they will be even better next time?!?!

simplesmente fantástico!!! Marillion ....forever....sempre!!!
Saw Marillion for the first time in 1986 as the specially-invited guests of Rush...was hooked ever since! After the split came in '88, I as many fans found themselves at the crossroads. Both Fish & post '88 Marillion are unique and creative in their own right as both are entirely different bands taking opposite directions musically & lyrically. Would be cool to see a one-off reunion show..DVD it, CD it...and that would be history! Both Fish/Marillion deserve more recognition..more media airtime
As a fish fan, gotta say this is indeed an incredible performance
Can you still say you love me? Can you still say you love me? Can you still say that you love me? Do you love me, do you love me? Do you love me, do you love me? Do you love me just as you did Can you still say you love me?❤❤❤❤
This is the first time I have heard Steve Hogarth sing a Fish era song. This is good for me to see the emotional context so I can get the emotional way Steve sings. For many years I just could not handle him, but i have been listening to Hogarth lately and although it's still different the songwriting is different and not as angst, but it's good to see some angst from Hogarth. It's slowly growing on me. Marillion's sound has changed too.
Wow. Cant believe this is the first time i'm watching this. H crushes this! Great performance!!
Discoverd Marillion with H as the lead singer a couple of years ago. It was because of H i did give the Fish area a listen because he sing some old songs now and then. First i didnt like the way Fish sings the songs because i was formiliar with how H sings them. But i gave it a try. Now i LOVE both. STOP compairing or haiting and listen what you like!

H is a riot. The first time I saw them with him he climbed up on top of a speaker stack and got himself stuck. They had to bring a ladder out to get him down. Bogarts in Cincinnati (80something). Amazing that the music still sounds the same, and yes, I know the band is intact other than the singer. He is starting to look old though. I'll be shocked if they keep touring for much longer. Until then, keep rockin' guys and thanks for the effort.
Honestly, today Fish can't sing this song better, than he sang it 20 years ago. I don't think, he would sing it better today. Search on KZread and you will notice it. So you can stuck in the yesteryears, or you can enjoy this song by still playing on newer shows.
From a proud Cumbrian to another you're a credit to your county
So many of you guys don't rate Steve Hogarth...get over it....he is totally brilliant.../.Steve Rothery is one of the 3 most wicked guitar players ever, Mark Kelly, Pete Trawavas, Ian Mosley...….totally brilliant...bucket list before I die.
I love both Fish/Hogarth
Same name different band, some of the greatest evening I had was following Marillion around the UK in the early 80's and I will never forget the total joy Fish and Marillion gave me, but its now a different band and in my opinion better the band has grown H is different yes, but I think Marillion are better now as a whole unit, listen to Brave & Invisible man for true emotion. Marillion are like a great wine mature and improve with age.
Great performance!!!
Fish is an old man who is a has been.. and passed his sell by date H is still talented and current
Big respect to H for even trying this!!!
This is ideal for me. Respectful of song itself and those who are excited to hear it, but with that epic vocal quality that stopped me whining back at Season's End. People love to have drama. But for me, I loved Marillion back when Fish was with them. I love Fish's work since. And I love the amazing work Marillion has done with Mr. Hogarth at the helm. All is good. And this performance is great.
Yank here, my dream is to afford a vacation to Scotland would love to check out those castles and catch some Fish.. I'll be there soon I hope!
I love how Hogarth sings the old songs. Sue me!
people need to get with the now, a great version, by committed musicians and played with real gusto to real fans who do not live constantly in the past , h and marillion have contributed greatly to my life with their blend of emotional rock, i loved the fish era , but they have gone from strength to strength since then , enjoy it while you can nothing lasts forever
