2:34 I love this motif. There’s something about it.

"Meno vivo" means less lively (slower), not less life. "Sotto voce" means softly or muted, literally under the voice.

Ashkenazy’s interpretation is one of the best!

Agreed! I've already released a video for this sonata played by Horowitz but I thought this recording was more suitable (and I've learned to make these videos better since then). It's amazing how clean his impetuous flight run is at the beginning and end!

Richter's command of the first theme - with _very sparse pedal initially!_ - is also quite amazing.

@@elrichardo1337 I was just about to add that Richter's recording of this piece is phenomenal.

I like Ashkenazy but gotta disagree about Horowitz and Richter.. they don't do well in this work imo.. Anatol Ugorski, is very superior in this even to Ashkenazy

Highlighting the themes like this is really enlightening. I feel like I'm starting to understand the piece more and more because of it. Beautiful music. It's like stepping into a new world!

These videos are really cool and help bring out all the subtle parts of the score. Also I always found it badass that this sonata ends with a fermata over a rest.

kzread.info/dash/bejne/fWFqz7ell5nFgcY.html I’ve made videos for all of his sonatas besides 1 and 2 :) (because they don’t lend themselves to thematic analysis as much as the rest). I’m proud to say I’m finished analyzing his sonatas and will begin making videos discussing his works more broadly.
