Screwdrivers made by Witte

Ғылым және технология

A look at a couple of Philips #2 screwdriver made by Witte. This includes two that are rebranded by Cornwell and Stahlwille. Even the rebranded ones are not just pure copies of their OEM models. I really did like the one rebranded by Cornwell.

Thank you for another fine review/comparison. It's interesting to me that the trilobe is making a comeback here and with the new Milwaukee screwdrivers (made in China) when it was originally pioneered by Stanley with their Workmaster series in the 70's and 80's. I've always found this style of handle far more comfortable than others. It's nice to see it making a comeback from a higher quality manufacturer.

The tri-lobe definitely has a lot going for it. Snap-On uses this design on all their newer drivers (Instinct I believe) also. The Witte MaxxPro and MaxxPro Plus have the best, most comfortable handles for me, I have found.

One other use for the go through holes in the handle is tying a tether to the tool that you can fasten around your wrist; a very sensible safety feature at heights where dropping the tool onto someone could cause serious injury. Danke!!!

That Maxpro shape reminds me of a Sonic #2 I got in the sample tool promotion they did. The shape of the soft over-mold and the harder plastic is different, but the overall shape very similar.

Do you think that the thread size for the screw was an issue. In my experience I have found that many hard drive / computer screws ( various m sizes ) require specific tips. Due to the extra grip the Were may make up for some variance allowing it to be a little more universal. I have seen this in my own test between Wera , Wiha, Bhaco all though all perform yo a high degree for my applications.

I have several sets of the Stahlwille screwdrivers, and I must admit that I am not too happy with them; although you're right, they are lightweight.

I suspect that the hole in the handle is more for attaching a lanyard when working at height, rather than being designed for using another screwdriver as a T handle. Could be wrong though.

Like many tools that are bought of the tool truck, you are paying for the service. Sometimes worth it. Same way that some snap on stuff is worth it, you are buying the weekly support that comes with the price. I payed WAY more for my snap on screwdrivers but over 15 years of daily use (abuse) they are worth it. Anything happens to them, i'll get a new blade or handle no questions asked. But, I payed for that service up front.

The regular Maxxpro screwdrivers are pretty good. Whenever I order from Amazon, I look for good deals on tools to try. I bought a Witte 53011, with hex bolster, for about $4, and it has been a great screwdriver. The grip is very comfortable and works well with my screwed-up hands. If I had not purchased a set of the Wera laser tips, I'd buy a set of the Wittes.

Lightweight for aviation use? I have never heard that once in over 30 yrs in the industry. Most a/c mechanics use a heavier screwdriver such as a Snap-on ratcheting model so they can apply more weight and torque to removing corroded or stripped screws.

Are all those shown German made ? Oplast in Slovenia make many screwdriver models for Hazet, Gedore and others and I expect the cheaper Witte models ? If it's made in Germany it will say so. I wonder how some of the Japanese made Vessel screwdrivers would get on with those Asian screws.... better would be my guess I like the PB Swiss black swissgrip drivers which have bolsters and metal pound through caps. The Hazet hard copy catalogue handily displays the German flag under all the locally produced items. Most of their screwdrivers are likely supplied by Oplast, except the traditional wooden handled and some of Trinamic Ultra drivers. I've got some Hazet Hexanamic PH which don't say made in Germany. See www.kctoolco.com/hazet-802-ph2-hexanamic-ph-2-x-100mm-phillips-screwdriver/

Can I say tool tribalism is not for the true tool enthusiast, as no manufacturer makes the best pliers, screwdrivers, spanners etc, so for linesmans pliers klein, for electrical sheers knippex, for electrician test meter kewtech, multi meter metrawatt or fluke, spanners ...... NOTE: cost is not a indication of quality, its a weekend warrior madman
