Base Gear Link vs. Base Gear Cloud. In that case, Link has a larger and more diverse set of weaponry than Cloud. They also assume that the skills of one Link passes onto the next Link, which makes sense because of how much characters keep talking about them possessing the Spirit of the Hero, implying some kind of Avatar reincarnation thing. Even if they had all of their gear, Link could still win what with all the instant-kill and invincibility items (PLENTY of invincibility items).

This was an amazing fight. I love how in depth the choreography was. I would not be mad at either outcome. Both characters are incredible, but I feel like what I learned about Sephiroth in this video's breakdown actually increased my love for him enough to make me happy with the result.

Wanna know what's even scarier about Supernova? It not only reduces its victims' HP by 93%, but it can also inflict Confuse, Silence, and Slow. That would give even more credence to Vergil's death - he wasn't as fast as normal after that.

Death battle downplayed vergil's speed by a lot though, personally, I've played both games and am a fan of both characters, but realistically, base form vergil could've killed Sephiroth before he even managed to draw his sword. Not to mention his other abilities like Force Edge which weren't even included in this fight, and for some reason when they had him use devil trigger they kept his speed the same...

After they started describing Sephiroth and going through his history I completely forget his opponent was Vergil from Devil May Cry (One Of My Favorite Games Of All Time😎) 😂😂😂😂

Agni and Rudra were my favorite boss fight and the hardest

for those wondering about the weapon breaking thing: In FF, it is typical for weapons in FF to not be broken. Only in final fantasy tactics was that a mechanic because there we specific skills for that. As time went on, it went from that to upgrade your weapons as you go. Technically if you wanted a challenge you could play most modern FF games with starter weapons and still beat the game. It'll be hard as hell, but achievable. So yeah in keeping with that logic Sephiroth's sword also follows that same mechanic. Also, canon wise there has been no incident where his sword received any damage. At all. For that matter, no weapon in FF can be damaged like that unless it's a plot device in a cut scene. So yeah...Vergil wouldn't be able to break it anyway.

They nerfed the HELL out of Vergil. Anyone who's played DMC will know this to be true. As for pale horse (Safer Sephiroth), he needs certain conditions met in order to achieve this form. Not to mention it's only in this form he's used supernova and yet he used it here. Vergil on the other hand was nerfed seriously in a few ways. 1. He didn't have Force Edge which not only gives him another sword but is stronger than even Yamato. Why give Sephiroth near all of his abilities but omit one of Vergil's most powerful, if not most powerful, weapons? 2. They didn't account for Vergil's increase in strength and speed while equipped with Beowulf. Beowulf increases the users physical attributes exponentially. Should've been even more so while DT. 3. Vergil's Ultimate Judgement cut (Judgement cut while DT) has a VERY wide area of affect so tell me how Sephiroth avoids it unscathed... Don't even get me started on the fact that Vergil seemed to all of a sudden become "too slow" when supernova was in effect while he was in DT form and didn't escape until AFTER he sustained serious damage. Despite the fact that he out-maneuvers Sephiroth as was shown here in his BASE FORM. So yeah. I call bullshit. I know both characters EXTREMELY well. Played all games pertaining to both characters, and love both characters, but in all honesty, they completely nerfed Vergil.

Supernova, not Pale Horse (completely different move). He also has used Supernova outside of Safer form (some variations in Kingdom Hearts, and a toned down version of the original in Dissidia). They also heavily nerfed Sephiroth seeing as he wasn't given his other forms and Heartless Angel. This match would've ended much quicker if he had Heartless angel, as it drains opponents down to 1 HP and drains all of their energy, putting Vergil near death and out of power to DT with to increase his healing. 1: Force Edge is negligible since Vergil only used it for about a few minutes against Dante, and it isn't much without the Perfect Amulet to recreate Sparda. 2: If you're trying to say Vergil's stats were lower than they should've been, you're both right and wrong. The scene they used to calculate his striking power was with Beowulf, so his real strength is actually less than what they showed. They did, however, ignore DT's contribution to both, though it's not like there are cutscenes of him using DT or any specific multipliers to get those calculations. 3: Judgement Cut End is the name of the technique, and wide area doesn't mean infinite. Sephiroth could easily hover outside the area of effect, and since he was distracting him with illusions while setting up Supernova, Sephiroth could've easily just went into the Supernova dimension to avoid anything Vergil could've thrown at him Supernova was practically on top of him, and he was caught off-guard. And that's not accounting for the energy spent fighting the illusions. Supernova can also inflict several status effects on the target, so Vergil wouldn't be able to do much after escaping.

Denzel Rozier I'll agree that Force Edge wasn't complete but even without the amulet, it's still a formidable weapon. Simply without its true form. As for Judgement Cut end, there is no way Sephiroth could've reasonably suspected such a wide area attack. And he was there as Vergil clashed swords a few times while experiencing his illusions. I'll partly concede that Vergil was taken by surprise by supernova, i just don't think he should've taken so much damage as he was in Devil Trigger and succumbed afterward so easily... But that's just my thoughts on the matter.

Fun Fact: If we're going by the games, Supernova wouldn't have killed him. The JP version apparently only does about 2000 damage, and the NA version is fractional (about 14/15 of the target's HP), so one version outright can't kill while the other isn't that strong. Though realistically, that move should be able to kill just about anything that isn't on par with a DBZ character. Vergil did just use Judgement Cut on him, and once he DT'd he used a modified Dark Angel almost immediately after. That's easily enough to gauge the potential of JCE and plan accordingly to avoid it.

Denzel Rozier i don't think so... Sephiroth has a history of being beaten because of his tendency to underestimate his enemy. He did use Judgement cut on him but Judgement Cut end is a completely different beast. Not to mention Vergil is moving up to 3x his normal speed due to DT. I have issues because earlier in the fight, Vergil in his base form completely out-maneuvered him so in DT, Sephiroth shouldn't have been able to counter it or avoid it completely.

Denzel Rozier but again, these are just my thoughts on the matter. Maybe I'm just pissy because he lost so sloppily. I'm a fan of both characters here, i just believe they shortchanged Vergil here. And i do agree with you that they nerfed Sephiroth a bit but his safer mode was only achieved toward the end of the game after he was near the planet's core.

You guys have to watch that new Brave Wilderness episode with the centipede!!!

Kai Uchiha i agree,death battle needs to do much more research,such as in devil trigger,fire based attacks like that one hurt way less,and that supernova ability can only be achieved by sephiroth in his final form,and even then he needed to have all of the power from the life stream to pull it off,

The calculation was supposed to show his normal, human form not boosted by devil trigger, additionally, Vergil should have had Force Edge, and would have turned Sephiroths insides to paste, but SA knew they fan base would go ballistic so they switched that, the illusion that “supposedly” lead to Vergils demise was a situational one, and not easily pulled off, while Sep used an relatively easy one and he could have gotten out of that like the illusion by the witch, which I recalled, made people insane, I admit Yamato is a bit over exaggerated, but his ability to teleport is still there and can be used to get out of Sep dimension (DMC) so yeah, I could see this fight happening and it’s a cool one, but I don’t exactly agree to its ending

Additionally super Nova is a long move, the animation said so, Vergils Striking speed should have translated to his reaction speed and so there’s no way he would just stand there and take it and would break out of it as soon as he sees it
