I already suggested putting it in your living room instead when you posted the video of how the components were found again, haha :) Glad it worked out this way, I feel the insert dash should remain seperate so it can be admired in all it's glory by walking around it and such :)

Hey here’s something you might like being a knight rider fan, my grandpa when they were shooting knight rider 2000 he restored the 57 Chevy they plunged into the water, since they needed a crash car, he got to keep the window when they finished shooting too, last I saw it years ago it was all green and covered in crap

Thank you Joe I agree that you shouldn’t put the original dash in the car the last thing you want is to damage the original dash as you won’t be able to replace the dash thank you for sharing your wonderful videos I am from South Africa

Nice joe it will be a better idea 💡 just to keep the dash as the insert prop as it was originally intended it would be a blast to keep as a display piece plus its a big part of knight rider history

Audio is really low for this video. I have to turn my volume up almost full volume to hear anything. Don't mean to complain. Just wanted to let you know. Great video!

As someone who has done sound design for spoken word productions in the past, I have to agree, the sound levels on this are EXCESSIVELY low. To the point that I just gave up on trying to follow. That is not good.

Even if the dash fitted perfectly in the car it would have not been the best decision to fit it. I think it's possibly an even cooler talking point and its own thing outside the car with the cart setup you are considering. Having a KITT car without the insert dash in it doesn't really take anything away from the car either in my opinion. There is something nice about the slightly rough look of the panels. You can really tell it's the original graphics used for the close ups in the show.

I can remember back when I was a little kid, I always wanted a copy of KTT's dash in my bedroom.

That is SO COOL Joe, hope to see another Season 2 episode review very soon, but that was totally cool about the Season 3 & 4 insert dash, take care & stay safe 👍🏻

Another great video Joe! It makes perfect sense to do with it what the studio did, and use it as a sound stage prop.. I can just see it now, all finished and gleaming, fully functional and another piece of the Knight Rider story for folks to marvel at 😎👌

Thank you for sharing this update. It can only be one thing at a time. I think it's the best thing. Kind of bringing this dash back to its original functionality. It will be a lot of work from what you say. This, because those guys removed all the functions leaving only this full flash.

Glad you guys are doing that. When they originally put it together, they had no idea how it would be stored or being exposed to the elements.And now trying to restore it 35-40 years later mares it difficult, but not impossible for KRH. As always, Many Thanks.😄👏👏

The cool thing for me, besides knowing that these items are being preserved, is that I sat in that Universal display car and spoke with whomever they had remotely playing KITT back in April of 1991 through/at/to that dash. I forget what I asked KITT, as it was 30 yrs ago when I was 16, but it was a technical question, which I do remember the voice actor getting wrong. I have pics somewhere in storage. Keep up the great content!

I hadn't realised the turbo boost button was the 5th one down. Wow, that will be so easy to use in a hurry ! Well done, Bonnie. No wonder that trunk lid kept popping open in some of the episodes covered recently. The finish on the restored dash looks really silky smooth. Nice work guys.

A good way to display this is put it in the fo sleeper part of the rebuilt truck when it’s finished

They briefly showed a picture in the video when it was on Stage 1 at Universal. Look at the 0:32 second mark for a picture of the dash with the controller.👍

Please make this into a KITT driving simulator with television monitors all around! that would be epic!

This is my question too, was there a tricked out car for the pedals, in the earlier series and later on all the tricky stuff went to sound stage for cost cutting etc.

Hi Joe,great update shame it1 won't fit in the car,but1 i suppose it wasn't designed to fit in a car ,so leaving it out and doing what your planning it going to be brilliant..funnily enough i have a question about the dash...just watched Lost Knight you know the scene where Doug admires KITTs dash and you see a sweeping shot of the dash(also the same scene in Killer KITT).. Now we all know the insert dash and the Hero dash differs a lot,particularly the switchpods,so i think the dash shown is the Hero dash ,what do you think???as ever fantastic channel,can't wait for the next video..

Hi Peter, that scene is actually the insert dash. An easy way to tell is to look at the SIGNAL and TUNING bargraphs on the speedo board. The ones in the hero car were green. The insert dash was red!

Thanks Joe,funny how you don't notice things even after all these years..so at some stage the insert dash switchpod 5th button down ,the colour was changed from the Hero dash colour which was green to red ...

It is awesome that you found the original night rider semi. I have a inquiry though what ever happened to the Goliath semi dose it still exists?

This is why I don't like the syndicated 2-part versions of 2-hour episodes. Particularly "Knight of the Drones" as they cut several scenes out, including KITT's new dash intro scene.

That is a good decision to NOT put this dash into a car. The further fading of the original parts is a good point and it is a good reason why this should not go into a car.

get an old arcade style driving game booth and install the dash into it and make it a simulator

Nice to see this! In some of the later Knight rider episodes, i have seen the voice modular work, in some shots when the camera was out side of the car looking at the dash, When he was kitt was talking about billy the kidd. What was the story behind that? Also i am guessing that the pedals and steering movements were done in the sound stage, with this dash too? I always thought they had all this in a dedicated car of some sort, which was kitted out with all the tricky stuff, Kitt opening his doors, shots for steering and pedals etc. Basically a non running car, that was used on set to film these bits.

Very nicely done paintjob at the dash :) Good to see it being restored back to the stage dash condition, so it won't deteriorate any further. To be honest, I'm still a bit confused about the stock dash underneath, as in 1st season there was that "dash-on-dash" -dash :P and then they did the full dash, which reached all the way to the windshield. Did they remove the original stock dash completely underneath then, or made the full dash fit with the stock dash? And then there's this stage dash, they didn't mold it from the full dash which fits in the car?

Always thought it was strange on the show, when it showed the digital speed rising fast and it had a ticking noise.

Good to know this stuff is in good hands...not everyone would respect originality in worn parts. Most would be content replacing most of it and calling it original since it's the original insert frame. Also dude check your volume...it was incredibly low in this video.

if it was mine i would put in the "backup to the hero car ' you own no mater the cost..its in a musuem ..not exposed to the sun..even if they fade a bit more...my dream alwayswas to have a real screen used "kitt" as kitt should have been in realitty..with the real dash working ,original bumpers,scanner the lot.....but your game your rules..just my thoughts....

Lego is going ahead with a recreation of the KITT and the semi flag ship.....but they forgot the round lights below the semi front bumper.

What would one look like using present technology?

Also i take it the original Mk1 dash got destroyed then at some point, when they did the switch over.

What about the 2nd tv?

Too quiet. I can't turn up the volume on my laptop or my phones loud enough to actually make out any of the audio on this. The audio levels are set to whisper levels.

What about the KIFT dash?

It always bugged me that a passenger would get divided in a sudden stop scenario.
