Screed like a pro!!! DIY TRICK

Here we pour 85 yards of concrete on this Commercial building. The customer needed certain areas super flat for an auto body shop so we used MAKO screed chairs to hold pipes at grade and we screwed off them. This is a good way to set up your pours also if you do not have experience with wet screeds. This is probably one of the DIY tricks to pour concrete if you do not have much concrete experience.

You what to see a big pour, 30 to 50 thousand sq. Ft. pour is big, where I live in Michigan this an every day thing. You have anywhere from 15 to 20 finishers and about 10 To 15 labors and about six to eight finish riders. They still did a very nice job.

Back in the day, we used to use a galvanized metal screed that was designed to clip over flat metal stakes. It had large holes along the middle to let concrete flow through and under. It had 4 bends for strength and straightness as well as hemmed lips to make it safe and easy to run straightedges along. Haven't seen them in use for decades. Wondering why, because we did almost every large floor with them.

As a Guy from Germany i did Not understand why you put the rebar directly in the floor? Here we lift it with spacers about 30mm up, so it stays in the concrete and it also did not start to rust away. Anyway nice Work guys😊

6/13/23; 2day great job on 74x50 slab prep, pour & info on those little blue (patented) 'y'-shaped vertical 'guides' which hold 2" pipe, which become the screed guide when making floor level. Glad you pointed out pipe is removed at later time, soon after screed has made ''section' nice by following planed flat or mild slope to drain or exit.. Contradiction..kinda..help/tell us why their was visqueen under big slab (74x50) shop floor...but...no visqueen under front 'apron' (75x12). Just usual grid wire laying on compacted raw ground...no visqueen on this exterior/entrance parking area..so why no visqueen under apron slab?🤔 Always enjoy yur videos & commentary! Gives we armchair viewers/ handyman with some occasional cc/slab work. Thx. Stay safe & carry on!👏👍🔧⚙️🍺😊

The only reason you would run the bituthene that way is if you were hanging it by yourself but for a bitter more quality of a waterproofing would be the running horizontal instead of vertical then you only have a seam every 8 to 18 ft going from top to bottom all seems should be cocked with bichiton cocking I didn't see any on that

Do you think the FinCaps would work when pouring against a wall if you set them say 1ft out from the wall, then hand mag the concrete from the snapped line on the wall (or top of expansion joint) to the pipe, then run the screed along the pipe (without having to set a wet screed along the wall)?

  • @gjones5153
