Screaming Reels and Big Fish | Surf Fishing for Mulloway

Спорт

If you're after a mulloway or two from the beach, NOW is the time of year to do it, with awesome weather and plenty of fish. In this video, staff members Finn and Jayson got away for a couple of nights of beach fishing to test out Finn's new Assassin Horizon Championship Edition rod. They ended up putting all of the outfits through their paces on some big mulloway (jewfish), sharks, shovelnose, tailor and even a cheeky spanish mackerel that left Jayson devastated. On the second night, good customer Sam Harris joined the boys to see whether he could get onto his first land-based mulloway, and it didn't take long! Within an hour he had a 1.27m 16kg silver ghost on the sand.
Hope you guys enjoy the video!

Really nice fish. Those look sort of like giant sea trout, similar to what we have here in the states but 10x bigger lol.

Fantastic fishing. Interested to know what rod /rating you’re using. Looks like a 6000 reel?

The 6000 reel was paired with a Daiwa Demon Blood V2 962 Pe 2-4. This outfit was just an afterthought for tailor, not really your standard surf outfit though.

Hi, how much meters of braid you have on that twin power, and what is the "thinkness" of the braid ?

Usually we run pe 4 braid, with between 300-600m of line, depending on the reel/spool size.

Fishing for big mulloway on the beach and small soapies in the river is a very different kettle of fish. As shown in a previous video, big mulloway have a serious set of chompers on them and even 80lb wasn't enough in that instance. Also, this section of coast has hoards of sharks, so fishing for them on 6lb just isn't practical.
