5th Annual Standing Horse Route 66 Pow Wow in Winslow Arizona Satruday June 29th 2024
Hello Everyone! Aaron here, the guy behind the camera!
I was fully expecting high heat and not a wisp of cloud cover in the sky! However, it's actually monsoon season, and there were some big clouds scattered over Winslow all weekend! For most, that's the best thing ever, but for me and my camera equipment, I had to wrap my camera in a packable tarp to protect my camera's battery from water.
Saturday's events started a little late at 1:40pm and wasn't over until 11pm. We only paused for 5-10 minutes once to let the rain pass. Sunday, we paused twice. Overall, the pow wow was a huge success in my opinion. The pacing was great, Erny Zah the MC is always hilarious-I giggled a little behind the camera. The weather was perfect, being around friends and family, and hearing the children play made it a very memorable pow wow for me!
Sunday was cut short when a massive rain cloud quickly dropped a heavy downpour onto the pow wow. I had to protect my camera, so I abruptly ended my video and took my camera to my car. The rain came so quickly that many people were running to their cars with their valuables, some were holding their canopies down, and the rain caught many people by surprise.
I should have checked the weather before leaving home. I was wishing I had my rain jacket and my GoPro to get even more rain footage.
