Scrapping 36lbs of circuit boards: How much more MONEY DID I MAKE REMOVING THE COPPER AND ALUMINUM?

Hello scrappers and planet lovers. In this video, I do an experiment to see how much more money I can make removing the copper and aluminum from 36lbs of circuit boards. I will show you how to safely identify and separate the metals in order to help maximize your profit and divert as much of the material away from the landfill as possible.

I recently found a paper by the California EPA that goes over the carbon emission reductions for aluminum, steel, and other recyclables. After going through some of the weights from my recent scrapyard runs, the numbers are kind of astonishing. Every unit of pure aluminum reduces 12.9 times its weight in CO2, steel is at 1.5 times. It didn't mention cans, but the standard 70% recovery can just be applied to the 12.9 to reach a rough number. My recent scrapyard run was 200 lbs of steel, which reduces 300 lbs of CO2. The average car puts out about 10k lbs of CO2, but if you combine all of my recent scrapyard runs it comes out to about 3-4k. Is it a huge huge amount? No, but it's in the same ballpark, making it well worth doing, and I'm sure someone who's done it longer could do better than I, especially with bigger loads. Pretty cool stuff.

Thanks for the info! I would really be curious as to how much material I have brought into the scrapyard over the years of scrapping. Glad I am doing my part and also making a little bit of money as well on the side.

@@TinManScrapper Right on. I figure once you get started you come up with enough copper to start cementing it out of solution. Your only expense will be your nitric which is impressive for sure. Unless of course you are able to come up with that some how at no expense as well.

@@Zizarkis1 Also it depends on where you live, I find it is harder to get things like nitric acid and such in Canada than the US for example…have to justify and get from a certain place, whereby you can probably pick these types of items up at a lot of stores in the states.

@@TinManScrapper Yeah it is fairly easy to get it here in Arkansas. I can order what I need online at the moment. I haven't gone as far as to do so yet because I don't have enough silver saved up to justify trying to recover it. If it is hard for you to get in Canada you can always make your own nitric acid from nitric containing fertilizer.
