The big mill looks good cleaned up. It looks to have a lot of Y-axis travel. I have a Fexac horizontal mill and at some point in their earlier days they used long leadscrews on the knee that required a hole in the floor. By the time mine was made they had smartened up and were using a two piece telescopic leadscrew and no floor hole was required. When I got it the nut between the two screws was completely stripped out and I had to make a new one out of bronze. Come to think of it my Elliot shaper has a telescopic leadscrew as well. When I first got my Bridgeport clone I broke it down into three pieces and took it down my basement stairs. They are easy to take apart. Ken

That mill has great travel on the table , 1000mm . 400 on the cross & 420 on the Z ( according to the manual ) . The manuals for it are full of really detailed info , inc max loads for power feeds . 630kg table rating . Also alot of drawings on internal parts , really mind blowing how detailed the manuals are . The machine has auto & semi auto functions as well . 👍

@@swanvalleymachineshop Your mention of automatic and semi automatic functions reminded me that the guy I bought my HBM from had a mill with those features as well. I looked through the pictures I took of my HBM when it was in his shop and sure enough that mill is in the background. It looks exactly like yours and I believe his was a Stanko. Along with the overarm vertical milling head it also has one that is driven by the horizontal spindle for really heavy work. They look really heavy and rigid when you stand next to them. I can't wait to see you take some heavy cuts with it. Ken

I hope you will show us the complete assembly as well as the various adjustments required. For the age of your Bridgeport I think the ways have minimal wear. Watching you scraping, which is a slow repeating process, it gives an insight what goes into Machining besides moving a few handles etc. Still working out which is faster, scraping or cleaning your machine with a Toothbrush 😅😅😅. Got the move done just in time for winter, eh Max ? I made my scrappers using very-high carbon steel . They worked well 40 years when I had a lot of metal to remove on a very worn, century old surface grinder ... and they still work well today . Professionally, I used carbide power scrappers which yes were faster, but I never saw the need to make the investment for myself .

@@swanvalleymachineshop Great to see some scraping! Maybe you could have used the gib to do a little spotting, not having a dovetail edge - could help to point out the local high spots, even though the gib is probably pretty flexible... but your measurements help take care of that. & maybe touch up the gib a little first with the scraper, if you have any sort of surface plate.. Also, if you come across some scrap carbide slitting saws, or other thin wide carbide, can silver solder to something for a scraper (then you just need the means to grind & hone it!).. of course, don't let details like this distract you from getting those machines making chips!

I was wondering where you were. I’m looking at the knee and table behind you, and seeing that “small’ diameter screw under it. I know it’s adequate, but it sure looks too small for that weight.

*_This is interesting but what do you do about the chromed ways on bridgeports? I was told you can't scrape those. Anyway, I know you're busy but if you can, make more vids. You're one of the few on YT I watch._*

Hey Max, was just about to drop you a line to ask you if you had died. Good to see you back but for future reference a quick post or short vid announcing your demise would be greatly appreciated. Also curious about what settings you had in lab during the scraping, with regards to temperature, air pressure and humidity. Cheers man, John 🇨🇦

Temp , constant 24 Deg C , pissing with rain , no humidity !!! 🤣 I did try to do an update video , but with all the stopping & starting it made it a difficult one . So i thought , bugger it . With all the interruptions it was just easier to start cleaning the big mill ! 👍

The issue is one of the dovetails . The flat areas are still good enough . Bear in mind that the Bridgeport original crescent flaking is very deep & not done on the angled dovetail face . 👍

That's a bummer . Only 2 options there . The one for the cross slide on my JFMT lathe has been broken in half & brazed back together . I need the Bridgeport running so i can correct the miss alignment in one direction . 👍

Good to see you back - you need a beveled PGS(Precision Ground Stone) - Once I started using them it changed everything - you can see the high shinny spots - no need for blueing most of the time. See the ones Stephan has here: gtwr.de/wp-content/uploads/IMG_4226.jpg Using large micrometers seems to do a lot with hearing the squeak..
