Ben - thank you so much for the shout out. I am truly humbled. You've taught me so much over the years and it was your encouragement that caused me to start this channel. As my way of saying thanks I'll commit to holding a give away when I hit 1,000 subscribers. The prize will be a half oz silver coin from the PERTH mint. One of the shark series of course.

I'm imagining a more purpose-built wire scrapping station for you, Ben. You're a pro and will be processing wire for many years to come. Spend some time up front creating a system to improve your work flow and save you tons of time AND motion later. Create a work bench high enough to put a shorter wheely bin or four beneath. a pedal operated shear on the right corner, blades scissoring away from you. Below the shear, off the right side of the bench is a gutter for the bits to fall in. Under the far end of the gutter is the gold recovery, under the closer end is the junky junk. Cleaned wire gets combed forward, off the table and down into a rolly bin. Your wire stripping machine could have a permanent home around the other side of the bench. You could start simply by just hose clamping those garden shears to the top edge of a bench, rig it all up with some board, chain, hinges, pulleys, etc. You'd want your shear to open back up automatically with a spring or counterweight. Extra points for getting the work station properly lit with some LEDs!

@@waterup380 Well, there are custom power tools for almost every process if you're willing to invest, but it's more satisfying to craft your way around with your own scrap bits and pieces. Hand cutting seems a bit Sisyphean to me due to the slow progress and also time consuming.

  • @waterup380

Yes I know I been doing that stuff all my life My dad did it before I was born so I know. Plus watching some people doing scrap on KZread I kinda already know how much there are going to make before they even hit the scrap yard. So in a Down time like this if the scrap yard is closed why not take the time to clean your copper and brass stainless steel and aluminum because you will make more money even if the price is low has it is still.

If you get the chance, post lockdown (i.e. now) to collect stuff, do it. Leave the scrapping for the weeks ahead that are coming for the lockdown period when you can't go anywhere. I use tin snips to cut the plugs off a lot of my wires. They will cut about any wire with ease and most are spring loaded so they are a lot easier on your hands/wrists.

I would recommend some tin snips, im not sure what they are called in australia but i got this really nice pair that are really comfortable for my hand and will cut anything, everyone says they get dull really quickly but if you get a decently nice pair they will last you forever, ive cut lots of thick cords with it and i also just snip off brass from plugs and my hand never gets tired, would definetly recommend for that volume of cords

Yeah we have tin snips, I use them for cutting my wires, a decent pair with the little serrations are awesome, good spring so better on the hand fatigue.
