I already have 4 tall bookcases, 3 craft desks, rolling stools, etc and a closet as well. My craft room used to be a bedroom and causes me lots of stress. My poor husband just looks into the room and shakes his head. I've wanted to get organized and saw the craft closets but just couldn't justify the cost. This weekend I'm painting the walls and giving new life to my cluttered space. Thank you so much for sharing this. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Best New Years' gift ever! Sistah, you did that! Because of you, 2020 is LOOKING GOOD! P.S. I'm now a subscriber!

I totally know how you feel about this one. My bedroom is my craft room as well. My boyfriend can not stand all the stuff I have in our room. I do have it in boxes and bins and try to have it organized as much as I can. I am so going to build one of these ASAP to help with all my stuff. I have been wanting one of these for a while now but just could not part with all that money for it.

Ranesha LeBlanc hi. Those are not legs. They are just strong cylinder wood pieces. They are not in leg section. It was in the section with mixed wood pieces in my Home Depot. I just was walking around everywhere in the store to find them. My measurements will not be the same as yours. It depends on the bookcases you purchased and the wheels too. You would need to measure all that and accounting the table top and the little feet ends that comes with the table to screw them in.

Tip, add the hinges while you have the bookshelf laid on the floor. Tip #2, add the contact paper to the backing before attaching to the back of the bookshelf. Tip #3, you can add a second electrical outlet strip at each side of your wall unit to help accommodate different electrical needs without having cords hanging in the front. Tip #4, if you partly glue the backing you'll need less decorative nails for the front units. Tip #5, the storage cube units can also be used for this if you are needing shelves that have more depth.

Great ideas. My only addition would be, if you add the hinges while the bookshelves are on the floor, be sure to snug the casters up against the wall to take care of any height differences, like she described in the video when she was talking about why she added the casters before the hinges.

The cupboard is pressed board or mdf I would be worried that the wheels will eventually break the wood at the bottom that is a lot of weight. I would reinforce with a sheet of thin wood before putting on the wheels. Glue the wood and screw onto the bottom of the shelf then out the wheels in to real wood. Every time you opened the cupboard I was cringing cause I know that stuff breaks easy. Great job though. I would totally try this.

I would probably put the whole thing on a 3/4” plywood base taped and stained to match with the casters already applied. You probably could away with 1 sheet of plywood maybe less. A tip from me would be to get the hardware/lumber store to cut the plywood sheet to the required sizes. It would also make them easier to transport.

You can choose the height and depth of the bookshelves based on the space and needs you have. Thank you for all the instructions. I am thinking of making one, but with shorter bookshelves because my needs are different. There's no way I can make room in my budget anytime soon for an official Scrap Box, but I am in dire need of craft organization. Sue Adams That’s great to hear. I am very happy for you. If you’re planning to put heavier things in it, I will suggest to secure bottom shelf to the sides of the bookcases. About eight months after I build it I started seeing distressed marks because everything is hanging on the bottom shelf since it’s on the casters now instead of on the floor so I had to secure bottom shelf to the side of the bookcase because I keep putting extra things and more things and more things in the bookcases so it was becoming a little bit heavy. The other thing you can do is to put bookcases or secure bookcases on the flat board and then put casters on that will mimic the floor for the bookcases and all the weight will be distributed throughout the bookcases sides instead of on the bottom shelf. I hope this makes sense if not let me know and I’ll try to explain more. I’m a craft art and art engineer so I wasn’t considering this part when I was building but since I already lived through it I’ve seen it I would want to tell everyone that to consider doing one of these things.

Sue Adams We used what my husband had on hand is 2x4’s he just cut it and we secured it but you can use that or you can use similar but stronger corners that are used to secure my handles to the shelf, there is much stronger ones you can use those.

I love this and can't wait to start making it for myself, what a great idea, I have a corner in my kitchen I call my office, lol, it's 5'x5' really not enough space. I'm going to finish the bookcase I'm making out of cardboard and start this, Thank you

Good idea, I had my ex husband build me custom to what I wanted around 11 years ago. I have out grown it now but it still works.
