No, they conpletely dropped the standardized testing scores required for entrance, and they put more weight on students from "traditionally underrepresented middle schools", which are the ones with lower test scores. So if you went to a shitty school with bad test scores, you now get a nearly free pass into the "elite" school of science and technology, without even having to do the standardized testing, because standardized testing apparently discriminates against African-Americans.

So, if you want more of your group represented in the school, you'll have to become the overwhelming majority of the population within the school region. Remember, this is a "public" school, not a private school. Therefore, it is the tax payers within the region of the school who actually "PAY" for the school. Let's not forget that.

Actually its that Asian Parents aren't usually lazy and/or quick to argue like the others. They follow thru with punishments, actually accept it when teachers critique their son/daughter is acting up or being lazy ,and use shame like its a weapon. Most Asian kids I know work hard have pride in getting good grades but not because they were taught to, but because so that they don't they have to deal with the Asian parents hassling them about everything by setting so-called unrealistic standards. It all starts with the parents.

They came in as 1-2 into high school and you could watch the spiral happen to #1. The main difference was the parenting. One had parents that always came to stuff and took charge of being a parent the other parent was never ever around.

It’s high school, merit at the ninth grade level is largely determined by the parents who exposed the kids to educational materials and controlled study habits. In high school kids take more control over their future. Why should we have ultra elite institutions in public high schools?? Shouldn’t they have 2 or 3 of these schools in a district instead of thousands of kids competing for a few hundreds spots?? Remember the vast majority of the applicants are already smart kids who score in the top 20%, too few spots to accommodate them

Once again. If you admit proportional to the race of the population, you are dumbing down the school. Not because some races are dumber, but because the admissions standard goes down. If other than Asians feel slighted, then score better on the admissions criteria. I can guarantee the criteria is not to be Asian. I bet life experience is. Travel to other countries, work and volunteer experience. Parents, up your game. Get them up and out. Take them to cultured events. Make them get a job and volunteer. All while studying to a higher level in math and sciences. So says I, but I know nothing. No need to tell me I don't. I have no stake in the game.

@@stephenthomas1492 so you're saying the Asians are admitted simply because they are Asian, and you would like that to change? Or is it another race that is being admitted simply because of their race? Or, there are just more Asians admitted percentage wise than there are Asians in the community? I'm only asking because I understood that there were more Asians admitted than represented in the community. The school decided to do some magic on admittance criteria while reducing the number of Asians and admitting other students who did not meet the criteria previously. Thus admitting students on virtue of race and not merit.
