One of a series of black & white educational films distributed by "Films of the Nations", "Scottish Rhapsody" presents the country of Scotland. This is circa 1953, and directed by Austen West, and produced by Maurice Groen.
Titles: Films of the Nations presents Scottish Rhapsody (:06-:44). Edinburgh, Scotland. Edinburgh is Scotland's compact, hilly capital. It has a medieval Old Town and elegant Georgian New Town with gardens and neoclassical buildings. Looming over the city is Edinburgh Castle, home to Scotland’s crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny. Double decker trolley cars in the city (1:04). People walk the town. Mons Meg is visited, it's a medieval bombard in the collection of the Royal Armories, but on loan to Historic Scotland and located at Edinburgh Castle in Scotland. It has a barrel diameter of 20 inches making it one of the largest cannons in the world. People look at it. The city and cathedrals below. Steam engine pulled railroad trains ride over an impressive bridge (:45-2:13). Map of Scotland. People ride horses near buses. Robert Burns home, he was also known familiarly as Rabbie Burns, the National Bard, Bard of Ayrshire and the Ploughman Poet and various other names and epithets, was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland. Brigadoon. Cattle. Dumfries, the queen of the south. The place where Burns died. Sir Walter Scott's country, rushing river. River Tweed (2:14-4:15). Quiet country. Cows graze. Scott's country home on the banks of the Tweed. Where Scott was laid to rest. Melrose Abbey, a ruined monastery in Melrose, Roxburghshire in the Scottish Borders (4:16-5:37). St. Andrews golf course. A retriever looks for a lost golf ball. Brings it to a man. University where men and women attend. Women study outside. Men smoke pipes. Land of famous castles. Glamis Castle. Farmlands in the heart of Scotland. Women and children dance outside. The Highlands. Sheep. (5:38-8:10) Sheep move quickly. Map of Loch Lomond. Steamship plies the loch, with tourists visible aboard. Sailboat on the Loch. A child smiles. Traditional Highland gathering, people dance, play bagpipes. Some wear kilts (8:11-10:03). A train goes over a bridge. A car drives. A ship on a river. The banks of Loch Shiel. A tall tower. Cars drive, a ship is docked (10:04-11:41). Headstones to an old cemetery. MacBeth's castle. Clouds, moving water, the beauty of Scotland (11:42-12:48). End credits (12:49-12:57).

    This was very interesting. Loved hearing and seeing some of the beautiful and historic spots in Scotland.

    I did notice that the only black face amongst them was the hard working fellow driving the steam locomotive.......Ah, but how diversity has improved us! Just look how far we've come, a man can will himself to be a woman, just by thinking it so! PROGRESS!!!!!?????
