this show to me is a master class in how to do "ridiculous" properly. it's whimsical and silly and fun, with the art style suiting the tone perfectly, and the medium of animation really being the best choice for suspending the audience's disbelief when it comes to the more super-human aspects like the fight scenes

This reminds me of how much people hated Metal Gear Solid 2 for being a bait n switch when it first came out and how over the years people started loving it. Takes Off gives me the same vibes, I imagine all the detractors will come to love it in years time because this show isn't an insult to the comics and movie if anything it improves them while standing on it's own. You can tell the writers did whatever they wanted and it's inspiring to me as a writer.

I watched the movie and read the first Scott Pilgrim grahpic novel a couple years back and fell in love with the series, meanwhile my boyfriend watched it blind and absolutely enjoyed it. I think that the anime is truly the best version of all the characters, not to mention how incredible the show is on its own.

I before the anime, I never knew about Scoot Pilgrim, but the internet was making so hype for this show that I watched for curiosity. I really liked until the and of the first episode and the second, not saying that I didn't like the second episode or stuff, but I was confused and I had a feeling of "something is wrong but I don't know what" ( like you are walking with you friends and they started talking about something you don't know, so you feel like a alien or something ). After talking with my friend about the show, they explained to me that Scott Pilgrim had a comic and movie ( again, I never heard about this in my life ). So I stopped watching the anime, read all comics, watched the movie and then I rewatch the first two episodes and finished the anime. Best choice ever

this anime was great, i watched the entire thing in one day which is super rare for me to do and im super invested in the franchise now, planning to read the comic soon.

While I can understand the mindset, and I truly did enjoy watching the show despite it leaving a bad taste in my mouth for waiting til the end to see him in action again, I simply disagree with the notion that taking Scott out of the story completely was the necessary step to develop everyone else. I believe killing him off was a bold and much needed move, but it absolutely did not have to last the whole season, and instead it could've been used to introduce a unique new setup leading to new motivations for everyone, and those motivations will bring out character development for every character who isn't Scott. All of this isn't hypothetical, I actually got in an argument about this which made me spend 40 days of my life writing a 13 episode adaptation of the franchise, attempting to make a (personally) definitive version of the story without compromising on development for the side characters nor excluding Scott from the story so his relationship with Ramona builds up throughout the season. Mark my words, one day I will release it at least as a storyboard. But for now, it's just scripts on my Google Docs until I can make use of it.

I’ve never consumed any piece of Scott Pilgrim media other than the anime, and my only criticisms of it was it needed way more Scott. I didn’t know this wasn’t faithfully adapted😭
