My boyfriend was learning to play this song. He passed away November 2021. I drank up the first part of the piece as if he was still playing in my living room. I wept at the end of the piece at the parts he never got to finish learning. Thank you for playing.

I'm truly sorry for your loss, I hope you be fine now and I wish happiness and love for you in this 2024, you deserve it.
Excellent tempo, articulation, and melodic verve, true to the spirit of ragtime.
This just might be one of my new Scott Joplin/ragtime favorites!

It's my favorite - I think it's his best rag. The harmonies are quite dissonant, rich and complex. The effect is elegiac.
I wish I could express myself in such a way. Mad props.
Quite similar to the maple leaf and even contains some of the same chords, a nice variation though. Well played

Interesting. To me this sounds absolutely nothing like maple leaf.
Wonderful clarity. The Cory's classicism is shining through (not in a bad way)
great playing, i love the way u play all Joplin's works!
I could watch this all day long
Yours is (still) my favorite interpretation of a Joplin rag that properly played "tells a story" and has "poetic lyrics" (if you listen with your heart). Great work, Cory -- I hear "them" every time I listen to your recording. In memory of my own piano teacher Leone Hutchison.
Maple Leaf Rag, Sugar Cane Rag and Gladiolus Rag are like brothers.
Can you please do other Scott Joplin tunes using this camera angle. There’s just something so great watching your hands clearly playing this great piece of music.
This is in my opinion your best recording of Gladious Rag to date not an easy piece to play your doing a Great Job Cory !! Since your really into Joplin i would Highly recommend playing Joplins Original Piano Version of HIS Overture to his Opera Treemonisha you can hear the piano version by marco fumo on you tube it makes an Out Standing piano piece Best of Luck and Thanks for All the Great Music !!
I can’t imagine why anyone would down vote! Very nice.

The tempo makes it look so rushed, it's way better when he plays it at 72 BPM
Respect, I really want to learn this piece but it’s a difficult one so cudos to you, hope your life is wonderful and you have all the happiness and love the world can offer you
Superb, manifico. Encore!
Happy 206th Birthday Liszt!!
Very good performance. Gladiolus Rag is a difficult piece to play really well. Joe Lamb found it a great inspiration and his Patricia Rag (1916) is similar in character but less demanding.
Amazing
My favorite interpretation of my favorite Joplin piece :)
Cory, better than ever! Thanks for the treat.

You're welcome!
Amazing! The left hand looked really difficult.
Bravo! Stride technique has been tricky for me. I hit a wrong key or two sometime during the song and it stands out lol Even if I practice slow and work up. Lol
Beautifully played.
Thnx for playing Joplin!
Absolutely love this. You played it beautifully
Beautiful... Always a favorite Joplin piece since 1971. This tempo is preferable to the 84 bpm version... Maybe it's just personal acclimation, but the 72 bpm flows just right, 84 feels too rushed. Joplin was quoted as saying, or even wrote & published, "Ragtime should never be played fast".
Fig Leaf next?

he already did this as well, but i wanna see fig leaf from this angle
I prefer the 84bpm one
i think 1.25 speed is perfect for this song
I prefer it at 1.25
This is just sad. A stiff, limited technique leading to a stiff, limited interpretation. You take this exuberant, joyful music and turn it into shit. Quite an achievement.

Hey Fred, where is your video of you playing this since you seem to know so much about music interpretation?

Well, show us your version and we'll see how it goes! Maybe we won't be as harsh a critic as you are.

Those who can't play, teach. Those who can't teach, criticize. Those who can't criticize, insult. As others have commented, if you can interpret Joplin better than this, by all means, whip it out man. But it's not even a question. Betcha you don't know to play freakin' Chopsticks. What you don't know about music fills many volumes, including that this is an excellent performance of a challenging piece & it doesn't get any better. Maybe try listening again over a proper sound system, with your eyes closed & your hands tied.
