Scotland - Highlands and Islands, Nature Documentary

Ойын-сауық

Mysterious castles overlooking lonely lakes and men in kilts playing the bagpipes - Scotland's cliches are beloved and well known. What few people realise, however, is that Great Britain‘s northernmost region is home to fascinating wildlife and stunning natural landscapes.

    On our visits I noticed it always rains. That said, almost universally it stopped when we got to our destinations. Very rarely did it rain while we were out walking, visiting folks or visiting the historic sites important to our family. This included the cemeteries as well as important, but little known battles. Much of the importance to us were the stories told to me by my great grandmother and continued as important to know by my grandmother. On one of these trips, I expect we will have unmitigated sunshine. If I live long enough. That said, on the few days where the clouds parted, one is wise to revise schedules, especially if Ben Nevis or Skye are in your plans. That said, I enjoyed this clip very much. It is one of the reasons I tell my family, not scenic photos, only those that include people. There are so many great photos I don’t need our own mediocre snapshots to remember the joy I feel visiting what our family considers our ancestral area. But those with people, especially extended family are so important, so heart inspiring.

    As a child in California, I first heard the thrilling Scotland the Brave, played on the first bagpipes I had ever heard (at a town event). My Mom looked at my face when I asked what the music was (I couldn’t see the pipers around the corner). She asked “do you like it?”, but I said “no, I love it”. Now much older, I still love the bagpipes.

    Continued: Like the Scotland highlamds, Montana, is still wild and beautiful, with wolves, grizzly bears, Rocky mountain sheep, mountain goats and mountain lions, beaver, otters, trout, antelope, ancient Buffalo, wolverine, and much mote. Massive evergreen forests. Very wild and sparsely populated. Geographically larger than Germany, but with barely a million people, when I came here 51 years ago, only 650,000. No large cities, no skyscrapers, or freeways. In most of the state, there are no people at all. The county where my son lives, averages only three people per square mile. Seven large indigenous Indian reservations. Much like the old west. Became a state of the U.S. in 1889. Very young part of the U.S. Lots of cowboys and ranches. Just a unique beautiful place. My ancestors are from Scotland and the British isles, so this beautiful video is greatly appreciated.

I'm sure to visit Scotland's Highlands one day and enjoy the silence, the many birds, red deer, otters, and other species of wildlife. Seeing a frog taking bites from a mushroom, that's new to me. National Park Dartmoor in Devon was my first love in Britain, with its unique charm and silence, its ancient history, and now, my second love is the South Coast of Britain, with a view on the blue Atlantic Ocean. When I find myself across the North Sea Channel, leaving the Netherlands for half a year each year, I'll also travel Northwards, to Scotland in summer..

Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North The birth place of Valour, the country of Worth; Wherever I wander, wherever I rove, The hills of the Highlands for ever I love. Farewell to the mountains high cover'd with snow; Farewell to the straths and green valleys below; Farewell to the forrests and wild-hanging woods; Farwell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods. I grew up near Loch Rannoch, my play ground went from queen's view to Tummel Bridge. My grandad taught me every dear path, rabbit track and stalkers track.....he'd "liberate" deers from the Laird of Atholl's land.....happy days. I returned 10 years ago.....onlybto confirm you should never visit the past. "From the lone shieling of the misty island Mountains divide us, and the waste of seas - Yet still the blood is strong, the heart is Highland, And we in dreams behold the Hebrides! Fair these broad meads, these hoary woods are grand; But we are exiles from our fathers' land"

Been blessed enough to make most of it and many great places as kind of bonus ; Scotland was part of the list , hope soon i get the chance to go . Drive on the off roads seeing all that natural beauty up the highlands . Will buy the best whisky i can . find a place with a great view , lay a blanket over the grass . Turn on some great music , basket with bread , cheese . Parma ham , for later . Open the bottle and spent the day doing nothing . Drinking , eating listening good music , all by myself ;

    Scotland certainly became my favorite country to go and enjoy nature and a dram from time to time. In 2 weeks we are visiting Islay. Visiting a few distilleries and enjoy its surroundings before heading for Sterling and Falkirk. We already did the westhighlandway and the speyside way in 2010 and 2016. Very hard not to fall in love with the lochs and glens and the hills. Simply magnificent

    I live in the Highlands of Scotland and it is a wonderful place to live. This is indeed a great documentary, I love the videography. Very well done. One minor correction though, Scotland is not a region as stated at the start of the documentary, but a country, and we call the pink flowers on the coastal rocks thrift or sea pink, not marsh daisy (I believe that is a type of chicken). Love to see more!

    This bought some memories flooding back to my younger years. I was stationed in Scotland for a number of years, and came to like very much the changes in seasons and the raw beauty of tbe place. Bases in a place called Faslane, whicb in itselft was quite remote, the nearest place of anythinb remotely like a town was the nearest railway station, but my interest ,lay in the other direction. I recall taking some of the submariners on trips to Glencooe to learn to ski. On year it also cobined a group that wanted to go climb Bennevis that ended in tragedy with a number falling to their death. Having used the same coach to take a team to the ski slops and the carry on to the climb, because of the accident, the coach was used to retreave the bodies and taken to Fort William and did not come back to the ski slops to pick us up, i recall that the temperature went down very quickly and there was no place to go for shelter so we spent a very cold night at the bottom of the ski slop untill next day. Although it was not something i would like to have to repeat, i bacame very attached to Glen Coe and its wonderfull ski slopes. Despite the cold, i did find the pure ruggedness of that place very capturing and can picture it to this day. Plus the waters around the base and just how a wind could get up and create such dangerous beauty despite its danger. I never had the chance to go back there, and now living in Australia i doubt i will, but still picture the whole pllace for what it was.

    I’m glad to see the conflicted history of the landscape acknowledged along with its present beauty. It has provided sustenance for millennia to humans who loved the land, but profoundly altered it too. Deforestation took a heavy toll. I hope more of the land can be nurtured back towards its primeval state.

    Tbh, it is however it seems, whatever the specifics, but really it is just a thing being aligned or not. It's a bit funny, I kept trying to plan to go back to the uk, and one thing after another, made it not so. The "reasons" seemed all very real and big, and were totally different every time. And now it was this current nonsense. However when it really comes down to it, in my experience of decades of things working out or not, the specifics are neutral, and it is always about inner alignment. Which is a great thing to know, if you wanna do a thing, it appears not aligned, and then you can literally sort yourself out within, and watch as things basically land in your lap, regardless of what otherwise seemed to be, and should've been in the way etc. Learning to shift within, and in the vein of allowing (not forcing or making things happen) is so worth it. 💜💜💜 I am working on Scotland related things, currently. I am excited ;)
