DC's Captain Marvel is the original, with him actually being created by Fawcett Comics who DC sued saying Captain Marvel was a rip off of Superman (he wasn't but his popularity eclipsed Supes at on time) and DC would later buy Fawcett Comics. the Captain Marvel name trademark went up for grabs as DC wasn't using him and Marvel swooped in with the creation of Captain Marvel the kree super hero. this is why DC's Captain Marvel's comics are called SHAZAM! now
