Scoring to Screen #1 of 3 - Setup and Spotting in Cubase

Музыка

Taking part in the @SpitfireAudio @HBO #westworldscoringcompetition2020 was a superb learning experience, especially for working out how to use my QCON Pro X within Cubase to speed up workflow during the initial spotting of the video (although this workflow should translate to many popular Midi control surfaces). Here I pass on a few of these hints and tips, including keyboard shortcuts, hidden features, importing video and some advice on setting up the initial template.
If you enjoy this or my other videos please consider putting a pound or two in the tip jar at my BUY ME A COFFEE page.

While reviewing your Nano Kontrol setup video, I discovered nudge +- a frame. Great for accurate spotting and much quicker than dragging mouse accurately. Thanks again.

Glad it helped out. I actually use these videos to remind myself what I did after a gap too so it's not all altruistic!

Thank you. Very helpful. To add a little note, swiping left or right on the movie image itself will also move you forward/backward in the frames.

Such a great lesson for people new to scoring. Please do more! So well explained, I also entered and this lesson would have been so helpful for me being new to the world of film scoring. but wasn't this fun?

Couldn't agree more about having fun Andreas. I certainly didn't enter to win a prize (marvellous as they are). But how often do we have the opportunity to improve our skills with such high quality material to play with? I learnt so much, even some more shortcuts while making the videos (by which time it was too late of course, Doh!).

I can't seem to bring up the option of choosing one frame. Also, why would you not use sympte time code? Thanks,

Hi there. If SMPTE is provided with the video then definitely use it. In the case of these scoring competitions it usually isn't because they are meant to be open to all levels of composing experience and technical knowledge so I was really just covering what you can do with straight video. The issue with not being able to find frames has actually been bugging me because it isn't coming up since I upgraded to Cubase 11. I'm going to look into that and if I find out why I'll come back to you.

@@MoonhareStudio I am having coffee at 5 AM in the states. I did find out how to get frames appear in the drop-down menu. At some point today, I’ll let you know how I found it in qbase 11 Pro
