    I have a lot of digital camo gear. Some from my sons tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. A lot of guys don’t like Ike it but there is an easy fix. Brown ritz dye in a bucket of hot water. Dulls it down to where it’s hardly noticeable. Three day assault packs are great and last forever. Same with the Fanny pack that attaches or can be worn or shouldered separately.

    Where do you get this dye? I have a lot of my old gear I’d like to try this with. Including a few chemical suits.

    I just ordered in two Canadian surplus wool blankets to add to my cold weather survival kit. I live in western New York so it can drop below zero and we can get several feet of snow in one storm. Just planning ahead for winter. They cost $64 with shipping.

    Man, I wish shipping wasn't so expensive. I could use a couple cases of those meals! My house was directly hit by the tornado on May 26th here in Rogers, Arkansas. My daughter and I were essentially homeless for 2 weeks, and lost most of our food. These would have been great to have

    Hey Blackie, I was just thinking about you and the ladies at Kaufmans. I'll have to call them and see if I can bring my service dog with me to try on a vest..he has his service best but I think he needs to varry his own food now that he is a year old and 50 lbs of muscle. Maybe I'll see you there. I need another poncho too. Be safe out there.

    Your failure to not buy a sixth tarp of which you already own five of is why I stay away from surplus stores. That stuff is addictive. With me it’s Haversacks, Backpacks Rucksacks and ponchos. Well anything unusual too.

    Coincidentally I just found a 5 gallon bucket of 90s MREs buried in my shop the other day and ate the sweet and sour one to experiment and it was still good. My tongue and throat tingled a little but I got full and I'm still alive so.. 😂

    A question. MREs last 5 years if stored at room temperature. When I look for MREs online I get the inspection date not the date packaged. It doesn't make sense to me to pay $100+ for 3 or 4 or 5 YO MREs with no way to know it was stored correctly. Why can't I purchase it within a month of it being made/packaged? And why would I buy it when it's old?

  • @blackoracle69

    @blackoracle69

    often you can by them new and if you looking for long term storage thats a good idea. the last time i checked brand new manufactured ones were 75 dollars a case. the price usually goes down and time passes and the inspection date draws near so if your wanting them for short term say 1 yr for camping and to have on hand the cheaper ones will do.

    I just looked on Amazon and MREs are $130 a case. I don't know how old they are but it says a 2024 inspection date which means, I believe, that they were packaged in 2020 or 2021. With a 5 year "life" that means they expire in a year or so. They aren't a good choice for food storage for emergencies. Freeze dried food, Mountain House meals at Walmart, have a god by date of 2054. I'm pretty sure I would rather store the 2054 food than the 2025 food. That's all I'm saying. We, the community, needs a legitimate discussion on MREs and storable food. I don't believe that MRE's are the best choice.

    Did I hear you correctly? The expiration date on the ready to eat meals is 9/24, 2-3 months from now. Not sure that is such a good deal. Only gets one through 1/2 the current hurricane season. Hopefully, I misunderstood.
