The only thing he didn’t do that may be important is to push the rings forward against the base when torquing down. The rings shift forward under recoil and if they’re not forward up against the base, they could shift after time and causing a slight zero shift.

Your right. At this point in the video he may have pushed the rings forward, but didn't explicitly state it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qXaBk7J_XZqxico.html However this is one the the better scope mounting videos on KZread. I watched many many scope mounting vids. There are many incorrect methods... like assuming the top turret is level and placing the bubble level on the top turret and calling that good.

Very informative video and so well done. I hope to c this young lady do some marksmanship videos with this rifle, I think that would be cool here on KZread. Thank you!!

You know it's an expensive sport when a McMillan rifle is merely a stepping stone.

Also helpful if you check the eye relief at max power since the eye box is the most limited at max power.

I will suggest it is better to tighten the rings to the rail first, and then inspect to see if they form a coaxial saddle for the scope using inspection tools, before tightening the rings on the scope. Should those tools show the rings are not lined up, you have a chance to avoid damage to the scope tube by correcting them first. This is also the best time to slide the scope fore and aft to check eye relief. Even if you don't have the tools to check that ring alignment, you can get a feel by checking with the scope laying in the rings before you tighten. So whether you decide to inspect or not, it is still best to final torque the rings to the rail first. It would also be helpful to show those scope ring alignment tools, as well as the details of using parallels for leveling the bottom of the turrets. For that matter, it would be good to discuss the details of methods for clamping a gun into level without damage. Good Luck to Amanda!

Dammit, I was going to drop on you but you killed it with that awesome disclaimer. My personal opinion is: Scope levels are critical, rifle levels are a waste of time: like you said “this is your rifle, you're going to be shooting it”, set the rifle in the pocket like she's shooting it and level the scope to that. My 2¢

Speaking of the razor, you gotta add the razor reticle to your App! Also, when setting eye relief, did you do it at max power or minimum power?

That's a nice looking rifle. Has it been shooting as good as it looks?

After the tall target test what is the method/procedure for an adjustment , if a small alignment is neccessary ? I find when just re-torquing the ring screws a very small cant is introduced .A very small cant is possible even if you try to hold dead level at long range .

I know Brian has done the tall target test and put on KZread previously; but it might be a good follow up to this video to take her new rifle out for it’s own tall target test. Or, at least link Brian’s test here?

He just used it as a straight edge. Check out the fix it sticks scope Jack and should give you an idea of what he did. Just kind of torque it in there on an angle to level the bottom flat of scope to the rail

I’m surprised you do a very generic scope mounting. Scope mounting is very complex. Thank You
