Science of Mentorship | Shawn Blanchard | TEDxMuskegon

Mentorship is a science that has not been clearly defined. Through Shawn's heart felt experience and research he has found kernals of truth that define mentorship and displays the application of his findings. From this engaging talk and diagrams you will walk away with the what, why, when, and how the Science of Mentorship works.
Mentorship specialist, author, speaker and mathematician, Shawn started his life as a crack baby. Growing up his main motivations were sex, money, cars, girls, and clothes. His mentors were his two older brothers - one murdered in a drug transaction - the other serving life in a Federal Prison for allegedly being one of Detroit’s most notorious drug lords. After losing his brothers to violence and prison, Shawn found another path that lead him to an education and opportunity. Fast forward and Blanchard was appointed to the city of Detroit’s Mayoral Cabinet as the Director of Youth Services. Throughout his tenure he successfully launched a citywide elementary soccer league and provided nearly 5,600 jobs, heading the Grow Detroit’s Young Talent youth employment initiative. Blanchard is the CEO and Founder of Shawn Blanchard Productions and the Style Advisor and Co-Owner of SnapSuits.

WOW Shawn; I know so many people, young, old and everything in between that could learn soo much from you. I live in New Orleans, a city that is much like Detroit in reference to the “urban community”... People need HOPE, and you are such a great example of what success beyond your life circumstances looks like. Keep up the great work!! I am sooo proud of you!! 💕

Thanks for posting this. I like the lifelong emphasis on mentorship and being mentored. When I teach I often think: how great that I get to pass along what I've learned from my own teachers going all the way back.

Mentors have been very instrumental in my life, and the honor of mentoring others is clearly defined through your talk. A friend of the family in Detroit shared your book at her book club and recently recommended you as one to watch and follow. I was inspired by your story and the Science of Mentorship. Much success to you!
