I am very excited for our readalong of WOLAS and our upcoming discussion of Fugitive Prince -- the series definitely has me hooked right now! Also, Lord of Light is one I'm looking forward to very much. Wurts, GGK, and Le Guin -- you are reading some of the greatest when it comes to prose in speculative fiction. I also really enjoyed Republic of Thieves, which I actually think stands up well against the first two Gentleman Bastard books. Return to Edan! Yes, lots of elf there, and I can't wait to hear your elvish thoughts on it, Johanna! 😁I look forward to your talk with Tori too!

Return to Edan is the best book in the trilogy. So beautiful! And Fugitive Prince is awesome. You’ll get to meet Sulfin Evend. That’s not a spoiler, just a name. Awesome character. Gay Gavriel Kay is next on my TBR, thanks to you. I’ve never read any of his books, so this should be good.

A great TBR! I'm looking forward to a Song for Arbonne! I'm reading Under Heaven right now, and one book and 100 pages into reading GGK I think he's going to be an all time favorite. In my humble opinion, one of the things one have to love about GGK, is his ability to make his prologues/openings feel like short stories that could stand on their own. My favorite (so far) is the prologue to «Sailing to Sarantium», but after that, comes the opening chapter(s) of «Under Heaven»! «A friend had died here today. There was blood on the bedding. There was a new hole in the world were sorrow could enter» 😭😭 And: «Soldiers or poets - who could drink more? A question for the ages, or sages» 🤣🤣

Great sci fi list! In my opinion, those are three great books and excellent introductions to Le Guin, Delany, and Zelanzny. In particular, I'm excited to hear what you think of The Dispossessed. It's one of my favorite books from one of my favorite authors. I'm sure you've heard this already, but, if you end up liking The Dispossessed, The Left Hand of Darkness is an obvious follow up within Le Guin's very loosely connected Hainish Cycle.

Nice tbr...I read Lord of Light in early July and look forward to hearing your's and Philip's thoughts on it. I subscribed to Broken Bindings fantasy subscription service, which net's me my first book from them sometime this month which is the first book from the Powder Mage trilogy. I have no desire to read that series but I wanted to make sure I was subscribed before they offer thier nice editions of Malazan starting in January, which subscribers get first dibs on purchasing. So I guess Powder Mage is the only thing for sure on my fall tbr, but I am looking at hopefully finishing Philip's Edan series and starting The Wars of Light and Shadow sometime in the next couple of months as well. I hope to add some sci fi too as I have been really craving some Philp K Dick lately. Looking forward to hearing how your tbr pans out for you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I liked The Dispossessed but it struck me more as a political novel in a sci-fi setting than sci-fi itself. For Le Guin I preferred Lathe of Heaven, it's dreams altering reality theme was wonderfully realized and it's short length made it the ultimate palette cleanser for me between Bakker's Prince of Nothing and Aspect Emperor series, both of which I have completed convincing me R. Scott Bakker is the worlds greatest living author. Therefor I am shamelessly yelling about this to whoever will listen, even in non-Bakker video comment threads hahaha.
