Sci-Fi Short Film "Sinner" | DUST | Flashback Friday

Фильм және анимация

In a dystopian future where the world has devolved into a pre-industrial state, the Purists rule supreme. The Purists blame technology for all the world’s past ills, and have deemed it to be inherently sinful. A handful of Companions, human-like artificial intelligence, have managed to make it through the apocalypse. They survive the only way they can -by hiding in plain sight.

I was born in 1956 and some of my earliest memories wrap around watching my parents settle in for an evening of reading the luridly-covered sci-fi books that could be found in every corner of our home. They talked about them during dinner a lot, which ignited my curiosity about sci-fi books for kids. Before I was to the magical - for most kids - 'two-digit' age, they gave me a new book, one tailored specifically to kids called (of course) 'A Wrinkle In Time' by Madeleine L'Engle. BOOM!! I was hooked, too. . For some reason, your small gem of a movie here reminded me of that profound and lifelong cant toward sci-fi as my own #1 pick in terms of genre. The related subgenres and sci-fi themes seem endless; I am never afraid of going without or reading/watching something I'm not really interested in because I'm out of better choices. I imagine that must be true for us all. . So a heartfelt 'thank you' to everyone involved in bringing this beauty to life. I truly appreciate you and what you do. 🌻

Wow! I did not expect that ending. What a plot twist! My theory is that the preacher got a taste of what is was to be humanity and he saw how much they hate machines so he turned on his own kind out of the thought he might belong or possibly survive. The one thing I don't understand though is how he and the lover both had snake marks on them. What does that mean?🤔. Maybe they are both liars in their own way? Either way, an excellent story!

This film-maker gets it. See how they took 20 seconds in the beginning to drop some exposition allowing the viewer to immediately become invested? Way to many films on this channel fail at this simple concept, completely ruining all of their hard work. Very, very few people enjoy films that don’t explain things. Most commenters on here are film students, hence the raving reviews. Drop this on a random KZread channel to get honest reviews. This one would easily succeed.

Hi Dust, you can thank KZread for chasing away viewers. Ever since their new policy of everyone will watch ads, no matter how many of them there are, I was getting further and further away from keeping them in my play list. Now, after trying and not being able to watch the NFL and USC videos that were posted today because of the bombardment of ads, this video by Dust will not be watched because the ads are being forced down my throat. Good luck keeping viewers with this newest of the normal for the US, making people do what they do not want to do.

I used to watch on Omeleto channel, once in a while. I don't know if DUST has any association with them, but movies there are bland and look forced and has too much drag (it's torture). I had almost gave up on short movies, until, my God, DUST came along in my recommendations. The Only Best short movie channel in the whole world!! The roller coaster of emotions and thoughts and feelings all these movies take me through is astounding (and for some reason, liberating). I hope you guys are forever blessed with more and more ideas to bring us.

0:02 *Shorts need to use larger sized text,* most will be viewing on a PC monitor or smaller, not a movie screen. I would suggest about twice this size. Otherwise I hate to say it, but it was predictable, down to the man freeing the woman, the minister being an AI, and the man getting shot, lots of less predictable routes.

Maybe I'm more perceptive than others but I knew the ending would be that preacher was also enhanced. kinda predictable. A few problems with this one was that the persons in the pews did not see the fraudulent preacher. Also, when you point a gun at someone use it. If the guy did that, he would not have been shot later on. I guess that is not as tense that way but hard to watch stupidity.

I think the story borrowed from Asimov's law of robotics. At 10:16, the preacher said the 1st law. The first serpent probably still have enough integrity to follow that law. I'm not sure why the rabbit broke that law if she didn't know that the preacher was also a companion. Interesting story for me to enjoy, anyway.

Man.....an expository intertitle at the beginning of the film explaining the premis of the film. Fine, it's a short film. But then, a *huge* dose of exposition from the pastor character explaining the same premis! That's a lot of exposition in a short film! Show. Don't tell!

Reading the comments - semantics plays a role as does your own definition of terms. Is it "the church", "religion", or "beliefs" that seek to control and cause the conflict? Please play along - belief(s) -> motivation(s) -> intention(s) -> action(s). Religion isn''t the problem - INDOCTRINATION is the problem. That leads to "beliefs" that causes the chain reaction I just stated. Indoctrination occurs FROM the church, the "educational institutions" and the people controlled organizations. As a Christian, I am inspired to read the Bible, and with common sense and free will, make my own decisions and manifest my own "belief". Christianity as a "religion" is not inspiring me to be in conflict with anybody else. The LORD will sort it out. Amen.
