Sci-Fi Short Film "Apotheosis" | DUST
Фильм және анимация
Selene, a young aerospace engineer, dreams of going to space, but was born naturally in this near-future society where the first generation of genetically engineered humans has come of age and has more privileges than those born like Selene.
When her mother loses her job, Selene decides to compete against these genetically engineered humans in order to secure a job position on the first habitable space colony, Rusk Venture's Ourania. However, she'll be competing against her friend Fabrizio, Rusk's engineered son. Their friendship is pushed to the limit as their willpower and determination are put to the test.

Reminds me of the movie Gattaca, one of my all-time favorite movies from the late 90s. It's the exact same concept, but done even better in a full length movie with Ethan Hawk, Uma Thurman, and other great actors. If you enjoyed this at all, go watch Gattaca. You'll like it even more.

Gattica was great in the 90's. Now, you can see the poor acting across the board from a then lesser known cast. The actors in this short have even Thurman beat in comparison 🤷♂️

More than little TOO familiar, actually. They have tried to do a more original take on the premise, which goes all the way back to 1942 with Heinlein's "Beyond this Horizon."

True, it was a unique sci fi film in its day. An indictment of perfectionism, pedigree, and discrimination.
Excellent! She put Mom in a nice place and upgraded her Bionics! "Where there's a will there's a way"
Good to see the old Thrustmaster still making it into futuristic movies!!!

Completed with the line of script, "Grab your stick and pull it".
There are many comments indicating a similarity between this film and 'Gattaca' yet I appreciated this more. This piece not only dealt with issues of class, it looked at the sticky aspects of the father/son dynamic. In addition to friendship and how quickly it can turn when competition an jealousy is involved. The jealousy that quickly overtook the young man when his father showed compassion for the young woman was obviously something that he has struggled to acquire in his own relationship with his dad. Considering that these subjects were fleshed out and resolved in under 20-minutes speaks volumes. This is an excellent production all the way around from the screenplay to visuals and acting. -------------------

T gattica waaay better. This was too short, simul test had only 2 things to it, not enough.

Comparison to Gattaca is a great thing and it's not a competition where there needs to be a winner. we can just love both. In fact i would welcome more stories addressing this interesting concept of enhanced versus natural and the value of the will in that equation

@@joestitz239i agree this same. story could have been better served as a feature where there would have been more time to explore the interrelational aspects that were introduced and we could have milked the drama of the test even more. But it's a short film and of course with limited budget they did a great job with limited resources.
It's amazing that there is such talent out there for writing, acting and cinematography. A short film that draws you in with believable characters with growth and positivity. Hell is better than most of the full length films I have seen for the last few years!
This movie has Gattaca and Elysium vibes.... and that is a good thing. Very nice.
nothing beats natural, kudos, brilliant, deep and meaningful
Director here, just want to say thank you to everyone who has watched so far to get us to 300k views, and thank you to all those who will watch in the future! Thank you everyone for both your praises and criticisms. If you have any questions let me know!
Wow! It pulled me in & several times I found myself holding my breath so I was so engrossed. This story was fully told & made me feel like I watched it much longer than it actually was. Great job!!! Like another person said, I also thought about Gattita ; it's one of my favorites.

There's something to be appreciated and acclaimed about independent movies and their makers wouldn't you agree?
It proves you may engineer the body but you cant engineer the human spirit or desire to truely grow as a person. To give of yourself 100% to your dreams
12:08 "You know you'll fail, right?" "Engineered, and still so petty."
Well done one! I liked the concept. Reminiscent of Gattaca.

Yeah definitely and Gattaca was so underrated
inspired by Gattaca. including the shot up the white circular atrium. and that's a great thing. Gattaca is the best and this movie channeled the spirit really well.
I agree with others' comments...well acted, filmed, written.. And strong moral story. Maybe could've made it a longer movie by continuing the story... The pair are both accepted into the program...and later on the space habitat face a real emergency...and once again the story displays how their teamwork succeeds again. 😊
3 minutes in and I love this. She just like me fr fr. Engineer with the skills and position to replace my own mother's job with... and also wishing she didn't have to struggle so much 🥺
This is one of the most captivating stories I have seen from Dust but it is done in such a way that shows what the future may hold. Genetic engineering is in its infancy at the moment but may one day be fully realized with genetically engineered individuals, but there is one thing that can always overcome any odds, a little luck and pure will to succeed. The reality that is facing all mankind one day will be the ability to make someone for a very specific purpose but, what will define that individual wont work. They may be good at what they do but they will never be Great if they lack the will and desire, no matter how genetically perfect for that role they may be. Only a being with commitment and true will, can ever be great at what they do. That is what it means to be Human.
Why was the final test co-operative? Wouldn't the guy have done anything possible to avoid being paired with a natural if he thought she would fail?
@stevenscott2136

Teamwork is important in a small space colony. If anyone is such a jerk that he couldn't work with anyone else, I wouldn't want him there. Plus, his father has PR issues to worry about, as the girl pointed out to him. I suspect the boy was ordered to behave himself.

his dad probly set it up that way since he knows his son is a brat. i doubt the son had a choice. in fact the dad probly knew Celine would ensure his son's success because he saw the will to succeed in her
Nicely done. Well acted, good story of determination and not giving up on ones dreams.
And again, Another GREAT short! Thank you for this little movie clip.. It was GREAT!
To borrow from the movie, a testament to independent movie makers everywhere!
Thanks. Excellent work.
One Word...... AMAZING!!!!!~!!!!~!!!! 🤨👍 Once again, DUST comes thru showcasing ANOTHER Video that would be VERY interesting as a mini-series!
This is a terrific movie short that amazingly told a fascinating and captivating story in just under 18 minutes. I would have to say it's one of the top 5 best short movies that I've seen on Dust. This is why I come back to Dust. The actors, the story, the characters that make you care how it ends. Again, one of the best I've seen. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

@@peasant8246 99% of the videos on KZread have bad audio levels. You would think that when they are converted to KZreads format, the problem could be taken care of. I'm a retired broadcast engineer, and I took audio levels quite seriously. I also hear a lot of bad micing from people who think they need to spit into their microphones. You need space between you and the miicrophone and to talk across it instead of directly into it.

Really nice one. Not just a teaser, got a whole movie in in 20 min seemingly without effort. However, that being said, would enjoy seeing this being further developed
This would make a great series.
much love, this is super solid! Thank you!
She made the swim the first time, the time it takes to stop and look over her shoulder puts here under 5 min! 6:00 Watch the hand touch the wall and start counting... it's 2 seconds until you see the clock.
So GATICA with a twist.
Beautiful... love it
Well worth watching. I liked the Film should be a full length at move theatre
Hooray ! HAPPY ENDING AT LAST! So much sci fi is doom and gloom. Why not a positive future.
Yeah...,GATTACA revisited. Great short video. Thanks.
Persistent determination will win a great many of life's hurdles...
I liked the BGM. Everything in this movie is amazing.
a great story folks. well written and acted too
Thank you-simply great!
Bravo, Good Story, Great Writing, Good Actors. Keep on, Keeping On.

Very, very good!
nicely done! I really felt the story hitting just past halfway
WoW! Well done.
I was very immersed in this film. Great work!
Loved it 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Must see! Please more! ❤
I rarely comment, but this one is worth it. Wow, how well done. 👍👍👍
Loved this! Excellent writing and character writing and how when you really want something nothing stops you!
Really well done. Had a very 70's dystopian feel to it. At times I forgot I was watching YT. I would love to see more of this/her/world's story in the future!
Bravo!!! 👏👏👏👏👏

Much thanks for the CC :)
this was fantastic.
Wonderful stuff great acting a glorious throwback to the age of idealistic science fiction feels very much like amazing stories 86!
When I started this video, I thought "Ugh, almost 18 minutes isn't short". When it ended, I thought "That was almost eighteen minutes? Wow, it went by so fast!"
Gattaca!💪
Loved it great job
Well done and very "complete" story in a compact timeframe! Kudos!
Very well done!!!
Cool !
awesome, very well done!
Nicely done. I really liked it.
This was so well done on many levels. And I wanna know what happens next!
Nice ride!
This is really put together great
Great short film!!
This can be made into tv series
Beautiful ending graphics.
I either read or heard from a psychic, that engineered babies will start sometime this decade. What will happen to all of the other children who are normal; not only because of that, but also from A.I. robots coming along? I am sure glad I never had any children; so that I have never had any grandchildren to come along to have to live in a world like that.
This reminds of of Gundam Seed where you have Naturals and Coordinators.
I enjoyed that very much.
well done
That was great! Good story!
Top !
Great video!
Good story line and characters I wanted to know more about.
Interesting how many people are mentioning Gattaca. My thought was Gundam SEED. I've only just finished watching Gundam SEED, I last saw Gattaca some years back.
Excellent 👍
Enjoyed that
A good’un. Thank you
That boy is so stuck up! But that’s the beauty of how well his character was written. He’s a character you love to hate.
Most Excellent . . . '-)
We gonna ignore the fact that the colony at the end is basically the Citadel from Mass Effect?

Thank you! Thought nobody would notice the whole Citadel on the screen...
Remember, where there's a will, there's a relative ;-)
I never viewed films like Gattaca as science fiction. This is in that same thread and they are a look at the not too distant future when we learn to manipulate genes to improve mental and physical performance.
Very very interesting film!
Lovely work! Great story. True friends are so undervalued in today's societys. Impressive degendering all around. Selene is magnetic. I hope to see her in other movies.
