    I am absolutely delighted to find this recipe! When I was a child, my mother, who was of German heritage, made these and all of the family loved them. When I got older, and expressed an interest in this recipe from my mother, she was elderly, and had totally forgotten how to make these! She didn't even recall what I was talking about. It was so sad. I am over the moon to discover this recipe! Thank you.

    Thank you, I too think German food is pretty good! Our neighbors went to germany last year and when they came back they told me how surprised they were about our good food. 🤷‍♀️ Not sure what they thought about if before. I hope my videos make a strong case for it 😁👍

    Thank you for this video. I had bought a package of schupfnudeln at Aldi because I'd never seen them before. The store bought ones were good but too salty. I'll definitely try making these. Looks like a nice all-purpose side. Thanks for explaining them so clearly.

    Oh, storbought is not good, you should really try homemade, it's so much better and they freeze well if you want to make a bigger batch.

    Thank you for sharing this....my mother and grandmother when they were alive made something very similar [i'm sure its just a regional thing] that we ate with thinly cut breaded steak....oh so so good. Now if i could just get real cream to make cream chicken...yes you take real cream that one use to get from the dairy and boil/cook the chicken in it...add this as your side and it was heaven.

    Yet another beautifully prepared and presented German dish! I am going to try this for Yule this year however I was wondering if one could serve these with the hunters sauce and schnitzel? Thank you for the video and the knowledge and may you have a great holiday season.

    Yes, this absolutely goes with Schnitzel and Jaegersauce! I would prepare the Schupfnudeln a day ahead to avoid being in the kitchen all day. They take a little time to shape. Happy Holidays to you, too!

    I need advice.. But first, I'm so happy to have found this recipe. My mother and grandmother made them but added plain breadcrumbs. I can't recall if the rolled the dumplings in the breadcrumbs before putting them into the skillet or if they put them into the frying pan before adding the dumplings. Thank you for helping me out.

    I didn’t know this variation but found a recipe like that on a German website. They first fry the Schupfnudeln for several minutes until crisp, then sprinkle the bread crumbs into the pan with the Schupfnudeln and fry it all together for a little longer until all is crisp. I hope this will help.

    Hi, I just got back from visiting my mom and I remembered to ask her about how she makes hers. She said just flour, salt, and water, make a soft dough, cut in four pieces, them roll each of those pieces into a rope and then cut the rope into pieces that you roll into the same shape you did. Cook in salted boiling water then drain and fry in butter. Yummy. She spelled this out for me. Schupnudel. Nancy

    Those look absolutely fantastic. Is there any way to finely grate some hard cheese into the potatoes or would it be best to just sprinkle some on after frying.🎈

  • @MyGermanRecipes

    I haven't tried that but I think it's worth a try - maybe with a smaller batch to see if it works. But grating some cheese on top would also be an option. Maybe try this: You could melt some butter in a pan, add some bread crumbs, fry it a little and then mix it in a different bowl with some freshly grated parmesan. Then sprinkle it on top of the Schupfnudeln. If you try it, let me know how it went.

    who in the world told you that nutmeg is poisonous? LOL Nutmeg is actually very healing

  • @MyGermanRecipes

    @MyGermanRecipes

    3 жыл бұрын

    Nutmeg is poisonous for adults from 5g up and for kids even less, about 2g. The Myristicin in nutmeg turns into Amphetamine in the liver so it can create hallucinations. There is also Elemicin and Safrol in nutmeg which can create euphoria and other neural and mental symptoms. In higher doses, nutmeg can be life threatening. Adults are unlikely to overdose on nutmeg if used as a spice in food, however, kids are more sensitive to it. One should just keep that in mind.

    I think what you do and are doing is great but as an American foodie who has lived in Stuttgart, Hamburg, Munster, Frankfurt, Passau, Berlin, Sylt, Bochum, and Trier, Germany since 1994, I think you can better represent. This is not a critique, it's an observation, from someone who LOVES the German kitchen and all its sometimes strangeness!
