    I'd like to add to your eat before bed idea. I'm a fellow ADV motovlogger and also a registered nurse, so I love to contribute medical info to help ADV peps out. Hydration must be increased when macro nutrients are taken in. Metabolism has stages, glycolysis, pyruvic acid, Krebs cycle, and finally the electron transport chain. That final stage mentioned produces the vast majority of energy and is dependent on h2o. To relate to motorcycles it's like never cleaning your air filter. Yea it'll run but you wont like the results, and the more fuel (macronutrients) you add the more choked (dehydrated) your engine (body) will get.

    Just recently found your channel (subbed) as it perfectly fits my near future. Grew up on old XR’s in Florida. 80, 200, 350R owner back in the day. Been out of the saddle for 20 years raising a family, owning a business…. Finally pulled the trigger, 2022 XR650L showing up late July here in central Kentucky with my name on it. The bluegrass region is absolutely made for this bike. Take a left off my farm and I’m on the interstate in five miles, take a right and it’s endless lane and a half into the red river gorge. Never going full on “Itchy Boots” but your style of riding and camping is spot on! Stay safe and keep it up!

    Another great video! Quick camping hack: turn your socks inside out and put them over the opening of your boots. As far as books go, give this one a shot if you like. Not really much to do with motorcycles but a great read in my opinion and I liked 1984. Keep brappin' man

    Boil water, put it in a bottle, put that bottle in your sleeping bag about 20 minutes before bed. You can also keep an empty bottle in your sleeping bag as well to piss in. That also helps keep you warm. Just don't confuse the two in the middle of the night when you need a drink

    Another awesome vid! Glad to hear you will be uploading every week man that will be sweet. I got your new sticker in the mail and did a small shout out for you on my channel and added it to my youtuber sticker board. I liked the old sticker, but the new one is really cool. That's some good info on sleeping in colder weather. Had no idea about the pee thing. I have a camping trip coming up for a local 2 day dual sport ride next weekend and it looks like it will be around 30 degrees. It may end up being cooler than that since it will be down by a river in a valley. I normally carry a 40F bag because it packs small, but recently picked up a Teton Farenheight XXL 20F bag that should perform well in the cold. That is a great deal on the drybag you linked. It looks like it will fit my much larger sleeping bag very well. Looking forward to all the new camping vids man!

    Yeah I learned that information about cold weather camping from a book I bought form an antique store called "Comfort Below Freezing" by Robert McQuilkin. He was a professional backcountry skiier in the 80s, and the book covers everything from environmental challenges in the snow, to the science behind your bodies consumption of carbohydrates and fats. As i read it I found myself taking notes from every page, its incredible how much information the guy packed into it.

    I'm concerned about the exhaust gases from the stove filling the tent though. I'm probably over thinking it, but with my rain fly on this tent has very little ventilation. it makes for a pretty warm tent, but there is literally a warning inside that says without proper airflow suffocation is possible. I'm sure that's an extreme case, but it makes me nervous haha

  • @azrydr1723
    @azrydr17236 жыл бұрын

    Really enjoying your travels. I camped out on the cliffs overlooking Lake Roosevelt last year and the views were absolutely spectacular. Thot on preserving your tent... Get a ground cloth (a tarp, a chunk of canvas, whatever), spread it out on the ground, and put your tent on it (duh). In the morning, your tent floor (on the outside) will be clean. Roll your tent up on the tarp (instead of the ground) and the tent continues to be clean. Then, fold the tarp in on itself (the first fold) so that the dirty sides face each other and the clean sides face out. Fold it up the rest of the way up and you can put it in your pack without getting anything dirty. By folding the tarp in that manner, you can use it many times over and it will still be clean when in contact with your tent at night and in your pack.

    Great video production, really enjoy them. Unless you like your MRE fried up a bit, I just place the bag into boiling water. I can eat it right out of the bag, and it saves me the clean up. Could probably do that with an open can of food as well. Heats the food, will not melt the inner liner if there is one, and no mess, plus if water is an issue it still leaves you with relatively clean hot water. I look forward to your next adventure!

    Urinate in a Nalgene or something similar with a wide mouth top. This also doubles as a hot water bottle since it's warm. :) Just try not to piss in your sleeping bag. Consider buying the MREs that are self heating so you don't have to worry about carrying a stove/gas.

    Hello I've been watching your videos for only a short time but I must say, they are becoming one of my favourite vlogs. I'm a ADV rider but I also have a 22' RV. So I load the bike on the back carrier and drive to where I want and then unload my bike and go for day trips. My suggestion for you is get a kindle, they are great on battery life and much smaller than books, my favourite are Tom Clancy books. Water: buy bladders they come in half gallon so buy 2 or 3 cause they are easy to pack also consider carrying a life straw or some sort of filtering system. For a campfire bring a twig stove. You can easily make one from a empty tin can

    My 2 favorite books to recommend are Catcher in the rye and Surely you're joking Mr Feynman. I feel like you would like both. Catcher is about a kid that can't conform to society, and the other is written by a physicist that worked on the Manhattan project, but is funny as hell in a nerdy way.

    Its all good im not going hunting for bears. I've lived up here for almost 25 years and never had to shoot one in fear for my life.The only way i would shoot one is if it was trying to kill me.Its scary up there lol and i leave my house to go up there at night because im crazy.Lol Even if your not in bear country its way more intense at night. Seen a bear one time about 25 yards from me and i shot a round off into the trees to scare it and the bear Didn't evan flinch. I was like wtf?! So i yelled get out of here and it took off runing like his ass was on fire. Bear hunters used to keep the Bear population down but the logging company closed the gates about 12 years ago so we keep seeing more and more bears Its like they say its better to have a gun and not need it then to need a gun and not have it. I wouldnt go up there without one.

    I like your videos man! @5:07 you said "eat a lot of food". Some people get the sensation of being cold after eating because it takes energy to process that food. This is all stuff I think "I learned" in elementary school almost 20 years ago and sometimes my memory sucks, but if you eat something, it should be something that is easy to process or drink something warm to bring your body temp up. Somebody said snickers bar..

  • @FridaysTheBomb

    @FridaysTheBomb

    Jari Martikainen i havent heard of that being the case, but it seems to make sense logically. As your body metabolizes food it gives off heat, so if your clothing layers are correct, they will insulate and contain the heat, keeping you warm for as long as there is something in your body to process.

    I noticed it the best when it was -20C when I was in the army, but I really don't think, that being cold lasted for more than half an hour, so the long term benefits from eating well definitely would outweight being cold momentarily!

I was thinking adding that to my kit. Ever thought off fastening a machete to your forks as a tool for cutting up firewood or sawing or even hand to hand LOL I added on recently and its come in handy for camping and stays out of the way.

    Subscribing :) Love the camping vid and the XR650L,looking forward to checking out your other vids. Personally,I always bring my Kindle Fire (the ones that are $50 on Amazon,they're cheap to replace if lost or damaged ;) ),loaded with several books,and I may download a movie/game or 2 in case I get really bored. Easy enough to charge the thing while I ride with a cig lighter or USB port charger.

    Yep, your right. I love campingvids on the worldwideweb. Always nice to see how people from across the globe enjoy the same simple stuff: motor-camp-food-beer. I would like to see a video about the camping equipment. To be more specific: I am always on the hunt for a nice, lightweight and small set up without sacrificing to much luxury. What is your filosofy about this subject? (hardcore lightweight vs bringing luxury items like chairs and what not? Or expensive name brands vs cheap china stuff?) Cheers from The Netherlands

    I tend to lean torwards a more minimalist style compared to most. Tent, sleeping, sleeping pad, extra clothes for warmth/pillow, food/fire supplies, water, and a tool kit. That's basically it. Also I believe you should buy the highest quality equipment that you can afford. Higher priced tents are so much lighter and stronger than the standard stuff and are faster to set up. If nothing else, you should have a decent 0 degree sleeping bag because it's your last defense against the elements.

    Schultz Pass was a great area before he fire. They had that road closed for at least 2 years after the fire because of dead fall. Shooting is permitted just about anywhere in National Forests and BLM land. If you like westerns Louis L'amour wrote a lot of books that take place in real locations in the Four Corners area.
