Just a suggestion, next year have each kid carry a hand basket and give them a list of what they need so you can check base on what everyone has/ still needs to pick up as your going along

I think Shelly and Jared will do every thing for their kids to have the "normal" life skills experiences. Depending on the place where they live and homeschooling or not, they make it a family bonding outing and they keep it as Crazy as possible. And a slice of pizza and some soda/lemonade is a treat. No-one has to prepare lunch at home.

Do your teachers post list of items that they need and items that are discouraged? If so it might be helpful to set up a spreadsheet. We need so you will know how the total number of crayons, glue sticks, highlighters etc. Then you could buy in bulk and distribute them to each child. This will cut back on the temptation to buy “cool” things like mini staplers and hole punchers that rarely get used. I know that B2S is exciting and fun and kids could still individualize by picking out binders and folders. If you really want to make teachers happy: Ticonderoga pencils are the absolute best! Crayola crayons are way better than other brands and Elmer’s Glue has been in business for so long for a reason! Periodically sending in a box of tissues is a much appreciated gift!

@@kathybrown8026 Absolutely! I was referring to some times teachers say things like crayons are necessary and markers are optional. Not the requests for things like wipes or other things that schools should supply. That said, during sniffles season a classroom can go through a box of tissues a day. Those come out of the teacher’s pocket so we appreciate it if parents can occasionally send in a box.

  • @kathybrown8026

@@JustBethTrying I am a teacher! The kids supplies including the wipes and tissues are priority before the wants is what I am saying but all parents need to understand that a wish list is just a wish list and that large families often can’t get much of the things on that list until maybe later when the necessities of starting school have been met! We are on the same page I believe! It is very hard for some parents to buy the clothes and supply list and shoes and backpacks for all before school starts especially when summer is so expensive in general. I always bought so much off the wish list for the classroom when my kids were small and only after I was told that all wasn’t necessary and a few items off the general list were much appreciated did I know I didn’t have to try to buy so much!

@@kathybrown8026 Absolutely! I agree. As a teacher, I think it is a shame how much families spend on B2S. I have a very small class and the only thing I ask my parents to supply is a backpack, lunch box if needed and toileting supplies if their kid is not yet toilet trained.

Our kids are through school but I still love back to school shopping. I donate extras to the schools our kids went to for those that can't afford all the things on the list. As a former teacher, I tried to be mindful of how much we used in class so parents didn't go broke trying to get a lot.

This is so chaotic lol. If I had this many kiddos, I think I'd grab a couple older kids as helpers and leave the rest home haha. I like to really organize... I think with THAT many school supply lists to buy for, I'd make one big shopping list. Go over every kids list and write down how many boxes of crayons, how many folders, how many notebooks, packages of pens... etc etc. That way it's not as crazy and you end up with things the teachers actually requested. I think even with all that stuff you bought, there was a lot of extras and most likely a lot of items from the supply list missed. They all seemed to have fun though, so that's good. Trey is precious and I have no idea how you could refuse him anything haha that must be tough!

Whenever you can help a teacher out, it is greatly appreciated. Most teachers get $100- $200 to spend per year. I am recently retired but my daughter teaches in Philly. She must spend nearly $1,000 each year. She buys prices, candy, art supplies, snacks, clothing, books, backpacks and so much more. Most decorations and organizers in a classroom are bought by the teacher. The card stock and colored computer paper are also something she buys multiples of each year.
