School Board meeting becomes heated during mask discussion

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

IDAHO FALLS - The Idaho Falls District 91 School Board of Trustees meeting became heated Tuesday afternoon during a discussion on masks.
The board spoke about bringing all students back to school five days a week rather than the current schedule of meeting in-person Monday through Thursday. The topic then turned to masks.
“The CDC is recommending that all phases of schools reopening, no matter what the community transmission is like, (is) to continue masking so you can stay in school,” Board of Trustees Chair Lara Hill said. “If our goal is to educate our children in our district and keep them in school now for five days a week, which I think is fantastic, then I believe masking universally where you cannot maintain social distancing needs to happen.”
Trustee Paul Haacke then asked Hill how many times the CDC has visited Idaho Falls School District 91. Trustee Elizabeth Cogliati said the CDC doesn’t visit any school district.
“Exactly. That’s my point. They are creating regulations…,” Haacke responded before Cogliati interrupted.
“You interrupted me, Paul! You interrupted me! Please do not interrupt me!” she yelled.
Haacke told Cogliati to “go ahead.” She went on to explain that the district should follow CDC recommendations to require face coverings as Cogliati appeared to have trouble breathing underneath her mask.
“So you want to pick and choose…” Haacke questioned.
“Yes, I do! Yes, I do want to pick and choose!” Cogliati yelled back at him.
The board ultimately voted to keep the mask mandate in place with Haacke being the only trustee opposed to the idea. The group also decided to switch from four days a week in-person learning to five beginning on March 8.
Many EastIdahoNews.com users asked if video of the meeting was available. It was streamed live on the district’s website but not archived and could not be viewed after the fact.
We obtained a copy through another source and in the video player above, you can watch the portion of the meeting where masks were discussed along with the board’s vote.

The anger here is unusual but the self-control was admirable. The people who have been doing The Killing do not expect to have to pay but that should change; in our society the courts impose unpopular Justice and my expectation is that with great effort we will be able to accomplish this. We have lost many Americans due to criminal recklessness and far worse. If we don't transfer wealth those who allowed many to die so as to not have to pay them their retirement will be encouraged to step that up. Anti-mask freaks worried about the children because they are clueless about their largely unearned often inherited wealth being on the table. I'm sure most will never get over this fact but it is. If the nurses & doctors who weren't wanting this vaccine or any other flu vaccine were to stand up together & refuse it, these employers would have no choice but to accept that it goes against natural rights. The rights no man has given us. These children, including mine, feel unsafe & among strangers at school. To expect them to be comfortable with adults that have no face is unfathomable. Teachers and administrators are unionized. They are the ones getting school boards elected. That is why most school boards go out of there way to do as the unions say and could care less about the parents. The parents are there representing their kids, but not enough of them band together. We need to show these people who is really in charge. Government schools care more about the institution, no matter how bad it is. The good teachers out there don't need a union, only the bad ones do. It's time to get rid of public sector unions. It's time to be more active in our school boards. It's time for the government to work for us. If they don't, we need to take away there power buy voting them out and cutting there budgets. The money should follow the student to what ever school the parents deem best.

For anyone under 65 who is not obese and who does not have any comorbidities, this virus is not all that dangerous. The numbers clearly show that most who get this will not die. This is Darwin and it is survival of the fittest. If people ate themselves to 50 or 100lbs overweight and got diabetes or heart disease or smoked and got COPD they had better get the shot and do all they can to protect themselves but that most certainly does not mean everyone should. Healthcare is a personal choice. This is most certainly not a vaccine. Vaccines stop the recipient from ever contracting the disease they are being inoculated against. When you get the polio vaccine you are over 99% protected from ever contracting polio. With the Covid shots, it is more like a preventative treatment. It essentially gives everyone the ability, regardless of their age or overall health, to fight the virus as if they were 25 and healthy. People with the Covid shot can still get Covid, they can still spread Covid, they can still die from Covid. The best protection from Covid is eating healthy, exercising, getting enough rest and not smoking or drinking. Next is the Covid shot. I am all for vaccines and all for everyone being able to get them should they choose but please let’s not call this a vaccine because it is not. As for the masks, there is not a single peer reviewed study that shows they work at all against Covid and we already know that only N95 masks can even filter out the virus. But if masks make people feel better then they absolutely have the right to wear them. Masks are even more absurd when speaking in the context of children in school. Since the pandemic started a total of less than 400 children under the age of 18 have died from Covid and they were almost all immunocompromised. More children die of the flu each year. We also can not even trace a single Covid transmission from a teacher to a student. So again, if the shots work, teachers should get them and if parents fear for their children then they should have their children wear masks but forcing others to wear masks is not right in my opinion and my opinions are based on the science, studies and facts. I care for my fellow human too and I wish they would stop eating junk, stop smoking, start exercising daily and start living a more healthy lifestyle but I would never dream of trying to force them to do what I thought was best for them. That’s their free choice.

Anti-Elitist: Agreed, I worked at a hospital and now a clinic, there were soooo many patients who had “Covid” written down as their diagnosis, and in death certificates, despite their tests being negative multiple times. The hospitals and Nursing homes get government money if a patient has Covid listed as their diagnosis or cause of death. It’s incentivized for the MDs to do this which has grossly inflated the Covid death count. It even happened with my grandma, she got Covid but no symptoms, then months later she died of unrelated issues (she was in her 90’s...) and Covid was written as COD.

Elizabeth needs to recognize that she was out of line at 7:00. Her outburst was completely unnecessary. This is clearly an open discussion with free flowing ideas. The fact that she was out of breath and very emotional just because she thought she was interrupted shows she is not fit to serve on the board until she can conduct herself in an orderly manner, no matter the topic. She needs to publicly apologize for her behavior and if she is unable to do that, she needs to resign. These are important decisions they are making for thousands of people. Those decisions need to be made by people who can hold their emotions in check and debate the issues like calm adults. In the end, the Board President should have interrupted her and reinforced the rules of discussion. If Elizabeth is the President, then she needed to pass the gavel so she could speak within the same guidelines as everyone else. This is basic Robert's Rules of Order folks. Not complicated.
