The Schola Cantorum Franciscana warmly invites you to attend The God Bearer, an evening concert of sacred choral music framed through the four seasonal hymns of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Alma Redemptoris Mater for Advent, Ave Regina Caelorum for Candlemas, Regina Caeli for Easter, and Salve Regina for Pentecost and beyond. Apropos of the seasons and liturgical themes nested within these timeless chants, the Schola will perform works by 20th- and 21st-century composers including Sergei Rachmaninoff, Benjamin Britten, Maurice Duruflé, John Taverner, Eric Whitacre, and a world premiere by Luke Mayernik-all based on Mary and culminating in the fruit of her womb, Jesus Christ.
