This simply has to be one of the most heavenly pieces/intermezzi ever created. It brings some tears to my eyes because of that sheer beauty!

👏 🙏 🤝 👍Bravissimo Paavo and the whole wunderbar orchestra ! ! I know that some say it is "Edelkitsch" , but thats an undefined legal term. But here we havfe shere quality. So yes, its more about QUALITY ! Wrong is only, what does NOT function. And Franz´s masterpiece functions very VERY well for thousands of "fans" in the world. What it releases in me, I can´t describe. And like Wittgenstein once said: What you cannot say and describe you have to be silent about. Greetings to all of you !

@@neilcarson6489 Mahler did call Schmidt "the most musical man in Vienna" while Schoenberg ruefully complained that Schmidt had "too much talent" and Godowsky regarded him as his only serious rival as a pianist. After Schmidt's death Hans Keller (who knew many musicians, including Schoenberg and Britten) called Schmidt "the most complete musician I have ever known".

Early 70s, there was no internet and not many means of portable music. I heard this on the radio one day ang fell in love. The next week I sent a letter (yes, in pen and paper) to a classical music program asking them to plat this. They did.
