For anyone who has followed my channel at all, you probably know I love the Schipper paint by number kits. This pbn kit, “Manhattan” immediately grabbed my attention with its’ stunning skyline, gorgeous sunset and final view of the Twin Towers before their destruction on September 11, 2001. This has become my favorite Schipper painting of all, and I hope you will love it too!
I still remember where I was on that fateful day…comment below if you remember where you were.

I was at college - actually on a farm in MA learning how to round up cows and sheep, etc. (yes, I was a 47 year old college student). I had just been head butted by a long horn steer, and we went back into the farmhouse for a break. The TV was on, and the first tower had just been hit. Didn't know exactly what had happened. The class went back out and we finished our morning, with no other news. Got back to campus and by then we knew something horrible was going on. We lost a few family friends that day. Passengers on the planes. Thank you for sharing this wonderful painting on this special day.

I will never forget this day in extreme detail. Still feels so fresh. When you started this video I immediately knew why this was special. Don’t apologize for being emotional. I am right there with you. Still can’t watch any of the “specials”. Still too - well you know - too much.

Hi Melanie, I am from Singapore. But the impact of what happened in America tore my heart. Up until today, I cry when I think back to what happened on that inconceivable day. I share about this event to my two young boys too. This can never ever be forgotten by anyone.

Thank you for saying that and reminding me that this affected everyone globally. Sometimes I forget how impactful this event was on the world and not just those of us in America. I love knowing you teach your boys about it, because history that isn’t taught is in danger of being repeated. Thank you for sharing and for watching my video!

It’s insane how I can’t remember where I was yesterday, but none of us can forget where we were 20+ years ago on that day and at that moment. Life stopped for everyone…unfortunately, it stopped for some more than others 😞. #neverforget

I was working in Raleigh for a financial firm when the towers were hit. My father was on his way to work on the towers but decided to get off the train before it went into the towers and was hit when the tower collapsed. I waited for hours to hear how he was. When he finally was able to call me I never cried such happy tears. My cousin was a NYC cop working the towers. We lost a lot of friends who were trying to get people to safety. They will always be remembered and are always my heros. Thank you for showing this painting. I just bought it directly from Shipper.

Your story just gave me chills from my head to the tips of my fingers and toes! The agony of not knowing if he was okay had to be the worst feeling until it wasn’t!! I’m so happy to hear that it turned out for the best for you both…although the losses you suffered made it bittersweet, I’m sure 😞.

I was in elementary school, we were sent home early. After I got home I went to my dads room where he was sitting off the edge of his bed watching the news with tears in his eyes.

When you see your dad cry, it makes things so much more “real”. That’s when you know that something major has happened. That had to be terrifying for you. My three oldest babies were also in elementary school. I remember them walking in from school after my husband picked them up early. My oldest son, Logan, who was such a soft-hearted, compassionate soul walked in just in time to see someone jumping from the top floors. I usually shielded them from such horrors, but he saw it and broke down and sobbed. It chokes me up even now to write that…those poor people had no other choice. 😞 It still breaks my heart into a million pieces!

Beautiful painting!!! I was at work & my mom called & said she had heard a plane had hit a building downtown & she thought it was here in town & I worked in the downtown area. While we were on the phone she had the tv on & then heard it was the WTC in NY. No one knew what was going on . We hung up & I went to one of our meeting rooms & the tv was in in there. That entire day no one got much done, we were all going back & forth from our desks to the tv to watch the coverage.

In the early 1980's I attended Pace Univ located in the Financial district of lower Manhattan in the shadow of the Twins Towels. It was really special. On the day it all changed, I was living in Brooklyn. I worked at an investment bank in midtown that also had a few floors located in the WTC. I woke up around 8am (because I didn't have to be to work until noon) and turned on the Today Show and saw that a plane had hit the 1st tower. My phone started ringing with family and friends checking up on me. As I continued to watch the TV, I was speaking with someone when I watched the second plane hit! That's when it hit me that I had to go to work in a skyscraper (I worked on the 48th floor) and I couldn't stop shaking. Long story short, I couldn't bring myself to go anywhere in lower Manhattan until at least six or seven months later. When I finally did, I couldn't stop crying when I saw the giant holes where the towers stood. To this day I still get a bit emotional even when I see any pictures, painting, film, etc. with the towers in them. I was able to go back to work about a week later but it still made me feel uneasy. My firm made counseling available for everyone, which helped with the PTSD that most of us were experiencing back then. That skyline PBN is beautiful though.

Beautiful sentiments, Mel. I have the very opposite reaction to that painting - it makes my gut twist. My father and uncle were both airline captains at the time, and my stepmother was a flight attendant. By the grace of God, Dad and my stepmom were not flying that day, but my uncle was in the air. We didn’t know where he was for several hours before finding out that he had been diverted to Chicago. After the first plane hit, I called my dad. We were watching the news together when the second plane came in. My dad said “here comes the spray plane.” When it slammed into the tower, my dad whispered “I have to go.” Turns out that between my stepmother and Dad, they knew crew members on all three flights. After he hung up, I went to work in Wilmington, NC. Driving into town, I looked up, and there were at least 10 planes in the sky, lined up to land at ILM where they had been diverted. I will never ever forget that sight. So no, I couldn’t paint that particular scene. Instead, I got their 5 panel NYC skyline at night. It shows One World Trade Center Place, aka Ground Zero. Like you said, you have to visit the memorial to truly grasp the scope. Ok, now I’m bawling.

I was in the hospital in sever pain due to my gallbladder needing to be removed. I was upset because all the nurses and doctors disappeared. My baby was 4 months old at the time. I was angry at the nurse for not giving me the pain med. Until I was told what was going on. Then my heart broke and I feel guilty because I was selfishly thinking of my pain. When the world stopped turning that day. I will never forget that day.

I was in the Navy, stationed on ship in San Diego. All the ships in port immediately went to sea, but our ship was in dry dock so we just all had to sit and wait. I'm a Jersey native and the rest of my family was still back on the East coast. Cell phones were not common yet, and I remember trying to get through to my parents on the pay phone in the shipyard to find out if any of my brothers were in NY that day, and I just kept getting busy signals. All were safe, but it was a horrible day and life in the U.S. changed forever after that.

And you’re totally right when you say that this event was not just in US. I’m french and this day was just horrific even here, in France. It affected everyone. I was in one of the towers just three years before that, and it made that even more difficult. RIP every angels. I’m thinking about you each year since 2001. 🖤

The fact that you had been there in person, no matter when it was, made it even more real for you. It proved to all of us how quickly life could change and how fragile life is to each and every one of us!

I just found your channel and was binge watching your videos and just came across this special video...I remember I was 22 years old and living in my very first apartment with my ex and our son who was turning 1 on September 12. That morning we (by we I mean ME) had gotten up and was getting my son his breakfast and getting him dressed. We had had a friend that was ALWAYS playing very sick jokes on everyone. He had called that morning and told us what had happened and I was yelling at him to STOP because that was the most disgusting "joke" that he could have EVER done and he told me to turn on the tv so I did and I saw what was going on and I just hung up on him and woke up my ex to come out and see what was going on. I was crying and scared because as a country, we had no idea if something else was going to happen so we packed our son up and drove to our families house and I remember I was just obsessively watching the news and then when the first anniversary came around I was binge watching EVERY documentary I could find on it and I had to stop because I was giving myself nightmares. My heart goes out to everyone that lost there lives that day and to ALL of the family members who had lost there loved ones and having to hold funerals for people that were never recovered... Thank you for sharing this PBN of the beautiful Manhattan skyline with the twin towers in it!

It’s so surreal to think about. I didn’t watch any of the coverage…I just can’t. It breaks my heart and puts me in such a negative headspace every year. I become so heartbroken for the loved ones of the lost lives, and I can’t bear to think about it. It was difficult enough to record this video without the imagery of that day…I just couldn’t watch.
