CD's are far from dead. In European markets they are well over 50 percent of new music sales. Streaming is a constant monthly price for high quality and you are never owning the media. I prefer cd's and no longer stream. Keep the videos coming and the Urd is a great device if one can use it and or just if they like it. We all should enjoy our systems nonmatter the thoughts of others! Take care.

I just went through my cd collection in an attempt to organize it. My wife wanted to get rid of it because I had stopped using it. My trusty 15 yr. old NAD player was acting up so I got a Rotell CD11 Tribute. Basic but good. I could add an URG and Bifrost 2 to my system but for that kind of money the results would need to be spectacular and perhaps would be if I tried streaming into the Urd from my laptop. One thing that annoys me with the Rotell player is how long it takes to read the CD. How is the Urd in that respect?

I remember an episode of Top Gear where they reviewed a Porsche 911 that was prepped for track use. Porsche took out the radio, they took out the air conditioning, they removed the door cards and replaced door handles with straps. So what you got was a 911 with a bunch of stuff removed from it and for that privilege you paid way more than the 911 model it was derived from. That's what CD transports remind me of. They take out the most expensive component and then charge you double. It would be another thing altogether if a good transport cost less than a good CD player with a good DAC in it (good, not necessarily great even).....but that doesn't seem to be the case. I can't help but feel that once again we audiophiles are being had. But who could blame them..........we're such easy targets.

streaming requires internet connection & rental of music, this requires neither. Also streaming compresses audio. WRT hearing a difference, many say they do, I never used a transport & mega priced DAC, so I can't say

Look, I have a few thousand cds in my collection. If the cd player makers really want a revival, they have to make really good sounding cd players that can easily kick vinyl's butt at a cheap rate. Charging a lot for a a basic cd player is not going to do it IMO...

digital music has always sucked but it seems to be getting worse . Think about what stereo hi fi is really all about . it's an attempt to save a live performance so we can enjoy it again and again . Because the live performance is physical and organic the medium matters when attempting to reproduce it . Records being a somewhat physical source/medium do well to retain the sound stage of the live performance . When CDs came out the physicality was all but lost and now the newer digital formats take us even further away form the physical world by creating a total artificial world based on ones and zeros . it's like electronic banking. there's no real world worth in numbers stored in a computer and now with the onset of AI even real humans are becoming facsimiles . Apologies for the off topic rant .

4:09 They are not alone. And it sucks. Transports are getting a bit too spartan these days; I remember the good old days with buttons for programming, time remaining, total time remaining, repeat, shuffle, etc. No numeric buttons for direct track access or programming? If I want track 21 I need to press the ">" button 21 times and then press the "Play" button? Look at the Marantz CD 94 with the button cover flipped down; _thats_ what a CD player should look like!

@@andygilbert1877 I do that too most of the time, but if you just want to play a few specific numbers, or just skip one, having those options on a CD player can be handy. And really, in the early days of CD players all these options were completely standard; most players had them. Now they are a rarity, and then often only to be found on the remote.
