The mic quality is a step up here with less room noise compared to previous videos, much better to hear and listen to! I too have the Modius and it is a DECENT DAC for the money! Loving your work mate, keep it going!

This was excellent. Thank you. I have a Modius, Lyr 3 (SE) Jot 2 (Bal) stack. I run Grado RS2e on the Lyr 3 and ZMF Atticus balanced on the Jot 2. These two options cover the music I like very well.

Have the Geshelli Jnog with the akm chipset and really like it.

I do not use headphones and true balanced xlr are important to me ...Do you think Modius would be overkill with good hi powered powered speakers or the Topping D10 in your opinion and also I need a volume control ? I highly trust your knowledge ....Thank you

IMO a good DAC is never overkill. One thing I've learned is how critical a good DAC is to the overall listening experience (for digital music, of course). However, if the amp, speakers, headphones, et.c down the line aren't up to snuff it won't matter how good the DAC is. To your volume control question, it depends on which powered speakers you choose. Some have convenient volume control built-in, some don't. If you don't already have speakers, I'd make sure you look for some that do. If you already have some that don't, you get still use the Modius, you just might want to add something like this: www.amazon.com/Nobsound-Fully-balanced-Single-ended-Pre-amplifier-Controller/dp/B07255VHZS/ - factor in the cost of an extra pair of XLR cables if you use one of those two, 1 pair for in, 1 pair for out.

I'm considering the modius To run my cd player through

I am new when it comes to separates. I never had one. I am a speaker guy rather then a headphone. What do you think about the Modius/Magnius/Gjallarhorn stack for speakers?

Would the Magnius be for preamp duties or are you looking to also get into headphones? My thoughts are 1) The Modius is an excellent dac. It's not as good from its SE output as its balanced output but it also will be ahead of the built in dacs of whatever receiver or integrated amp you've been using in this price range. 2) where's the volume control? Modius has fixed output level and I see no potentiometer on the Gjallarhorn. If you're OK with Modius via SE output I'd swap out the Magnius for whichever or their Saga preamps you find preferable. If the goal is to check out headphones too I think the Asgard 3 is vastly better than Magnius. You won't have remote volume control if you need that, however (you wouldn't with Magnius either). If you have the budget the Modi Multibit 2 is also all single ended and currently $70 more than the Modus E. Good luck.

@@wavetheorysound Wow thank you for your quick and detailed answer. I am very new to all of this things. So I watched a lot of videos from different audiophiles. They say how the balanced output benefits in terms of reducing noises. I would go for mainly preamp duties with the Magnius yes. I thought it has the volume control. Yes I have checked out other options as well including the ones you mentioned. I just have to decide at some point, but I am still in the research and learning phase. A huge thanks again!

The Modius is a decent piece of kit for the price. Pretty much need to move up to the Bifrost 2 or Ares II to get better performance IME.

I think the question is should someone buy this or pay $50 more for the Modi Multibit.

sounds different. MMB is more warmish dark vs the clearer neutral Modius

I own both units but think the current version Modi Multibit sounds more dimensional with more air. The Modius has more body but flatter sounding or less spatial.
