That's right, well spotted. This was a source of friction between Brando and Tandy during rehearsals of the original Broadway play. She couldn't stand him and actually wrote him a condescending letter scolding him about his "non-professional" acting style. I'll acknowledge Marlon's brilliance (and beauty) here but I think Vivien Leigh's performance in this film is truly unrivalled. As one of Britain's greatest actors, she really did nail this performance to the point that even Tennessee Williams said she delivered more than he could have imagined. Her anxiety, her mental uncertainty and her eventual demise is disheartening and as someone who's suffered from anxiety, she portrays the character perfectly. All hail Leigh and Brando.

I first saw this scene when we watched it in English class and every girl's jaw dropped when Brando came on screen. I don't think any of us had really seen him young before. Then when he took his shirt off we all started grinning....we couldn't help it, haha

I'm so shook by his beauty and cadence. Something in the way he moved, unlike any man I've seen.

Brando was not only beautiful, but the greatest actor ever. The first person to mainstream method acting. Any person who considers themselves a lover of cinema must sit down and watch A street car named Desire and On the Waterfront. Marlon moves and acts extremely natural in both films, and although the casts around him give great performances, it’s very much theatrical over-acting. Marlon actually became his character and was so much more convincing. He changed acting forever in A streetcar named Desire, and raised the bar once again in On the Waterfront.

Normally when I see a hot guy on-screen that doesn't distract me from paying attention to the movie but when it comes to marlon I honestly can not watch this WITHOUT SCREAMING HE IS SO HOT AND NOT EVEN TRYING?? HOW??

His acting is so organic I can almost smell him...

I love how fucking relaxed he is here than doing a good impression of a cat. Yes, he is incredibly sexy here and all but I came here cuz I hear so much about how good he is in this film. Now I wanna see this whole movie

I've seen this scene many times and I only just realised how at 0:38 he makes a remark about some of the alcohol being gone - he wasn't fooled by her even from the beginning.

cbasallie Really agree with you. But critics and audiences have been calling this actor named Tom Hardy (who's from England) as the new Brando..... I don't know if it's because he looks like him because......I CAN'T SEE THE RESEMBLENCE......or if they mean his acting skills. I have only seen two of his movies (1)Inception and (2)Lock and I can't agree with the masses unless I am just blind or deaf. But seriously, check him out and tell me what you think.

Maryanne G. Omg...I just googled some pictures and I actually do see a resemblance in the facial features . Especially the mouth. But he's not smiling in the pictures so it's hard to say. I never saw him act. Also, I think his face is thinner. I would definitely check out his movies though. He's cute.

Johanna Rose i am one of those people who thinks no looks better then him but thing i cant say is that actors and models now of days arent good looking theres thousands of them who can go toe to toe in looks with guys from the old movies. You would be surprised at how gorgeous the models and actors of today are :)
