It’s so beautiful to see young people got together. Stay with Thai and you will learn Thai language fast. All those foods you try are the old Thai.

Whoever came up with the idea to have a team scavenger hunt was brilliant. It looked like an awesome way for group bonding, cultural exchange, and just plain fun! I've thought about people who travel solo to Thailand long term and wonder how they get past the initial loneliness and culture shock. Groups like this would be extremely helpful for those situations.

If you travel solo for long term meet up with other expats and local Thais you vibe with like Oni. Most people are friendly towards others never making you feel alone or any discomfort in the bigger cities or holiday spots in Thailand. Always try to find people to connect with having a good time enjoying each day. If you visit a Thai village you may feel alone cause not many of them speak English very well. Many of them want to be helpful but the communication barrier can create problems. I live in a village with my wife with me rarely ever seeing another expat. What help me was learning the culture and speaking the language which is a daily learning process. I can speak enough Thai to carry on a basic conversation with others. Oni's positive attitude on his journey draws good things towards to him. I am sure he has probably had few negative things happen to him but you can not let them weigh you down. If you want to fly in life soaring the skies you must first let go of things weighing down. 🙂

Hey Oni! The Thai word, KOH (Island in Thai) is actually pronounced with a soft (o) like in the word GOLF. The easiest way to pronounce KOH is to say GOLF but don't sound out the letters (L) and (F); keep those letters silent. Your Thai instructor will be impressed with your correct pronunciation of KOH because 99.99% of foreigners say it incorrectly. I'm very impressed that you're trying to learn Thai shortly after your arrival in Thailand. Many ex-pats in Thailand have lived there for over 10 years and still can't speak Thai! I believe if you're a guest in someone else's country, it's your duty to learn the local language rather than expect the locals to speak your language. Becoming fluent in Thai will open many doors for you with the local population. In order to fully understand Thai culture, the people, and the country, you have to eat, speak and think in Thai! If you stay connected in Thailand you can easily find unique opportunities to have fun in the bigger cities. The scavenger hunt was a fun idea that will help you remember the words you learned. In Thailand you need to be aware of your surroundings when walking about. They are many trip hazards and things to bump your head on so be careful. 🙂

@17:00 Luuk Chup (pronounced more like Loog Choop) is awesome! It's a semi healthy dessert made with mung bean paste covered with agar agar. Mung bean is naturally sweet so they don't need to add much more white sugar. The agar agar is basically gelatin made from a plant product as opposed to animal hooves. They roll bean paste into the shape of various fruits, dip it in agar agar, then paint with food coloring to replicate the full size fruit. I can easily polish off a small container of these. (6oz package sells for $5.50 USD here in Chicago!)

Inside Miang Kum, the paste is not sweet cilli. It's palm sugar, ground peanut, red onion and some people may add shrimp paste in mix every ingredients up and boil them until everything blend together and leave it till get its consistency.
