Scary to Sweet: The truth behind "evil" alters

There is no such thing as a bad alter! Even alters that seem scary or mean are just trying to help in their own misguided ways.

Tell Karen (since she doesn't come out much) that no one can hurt her now. She does help by being her. She is so strong to take on all that she did as a 5-year-old little girl and to hold that for all these years (even if the memories are in a chest). She makes it so the system can work just by being her. ♥

Oh my gosh, when Karen said, "Little girls get hurt" I started crying. I can relate and I understand why she would want to be a big, scary, boy monster. Boys and monsters don't get hurt the same, so if you can become that to protect yourself, why wouldn't you? I'm so glad with therapy and time that she has been able to go back to being a little girl and is starting to believe that "girls can be strong too." The pain that must of created her breaks my heart just thinking about it, and a part of me is envious in a way because I wish I was capable of protecting myself from memories the same way. I applaud Karen for finding the courage to make an appearance on camera. She's so brave. Please tell her that she's safe now and have Mistletoe give her a hug for me. ❤

Every time I watch this I wanna cry. Rainy (our angsty teen girl) acts out so much because “girls get hurt” and that sentence resonates so very much with us. Thank you for bringing light to important things like this. Lots of good vibes to Karen. Little girls can definitely be strong and loud and helpers. Edit: I just realized this was published on the body’s birthday which is a lot of ours and thank you for the heart! {:

I needed this. I'm the "bad" altar. Or I try to be as scary as possible to scare people away from me or my host or the system in general. But that's the only way I know how defend me and the system. I mean well but I (along with almost everyone else in the system) wish I wasn't so mean. However it is nice to know that I have a chance to do better. And you have my respect (both you and Karen) for making this. I wish you well. By the way, tell Karen I wish her well too if you would. -Her

Thank you for explaining. When you're the one who has to keep everyone away , I get it. I have social anxiety disorder, depression and find it difficult to leave the house on my own. It comes from childhood emotion neglect, raising 2 sons with disorders, oppositional defiant disorder, being the worst. I was put in a postion where I was told if I didn't raise my grandson then he'd go into care. My son has custody of him. He's one happy little boy just turned 5 yrs. Now I can't stand to be around people, I choose to have no friends, I can't cope with their needs, its too overwhelming. I can't cope with noise or people talking. I'm so glad Karens safe now. I hope things are better for you too......☺ Jayne

I don’t understand how anyone would ever think your alters are faked...as a linguist I can see clear as day that when Karen was fronting she had the speech patterns of a little girl...and not only the ones that are obvious to people who know or have children. The body language, posture, doubling and repetition are all indication of a small child who has been through trauma. Karen we love you, and all the alters, thank you for being so strong and protecting your system.

This reminds us of our Al, who used to go by It. He was our version of a monster, but he's really just a teenage boy, he's Alex's older brother, and will protect him till the ends of the earth, and he'd be super embarrassed if he found I I was telling this story, but both him and I used to be persecutors, I thought that limiting our food would keep us safe, but I realize now that wasn't healthy for me or the others, and I'm very thankful Silas, Lily and the others helped both Al and me realize that. ~Petal

Karen is lovely! That was really brave of her. I love how you all explain stuff about did cause I met people with did on the internet before and they were all so torn apart that it was scary and no one seemed emotionally stable enough to properly explain what was happening to them. You all seem very nice and if I met any of you irl I would totally befriend you. Keep up the good work!

We get ya. Our only persecutor is Crow, and he's cold, sadistic and unempathic. But he's not evil. Hes more about revenge. He's just angry, and vengeful. Our main protector has a brother who's kinda scary too, but he's trying to teach me to stand up for myself, in his own weird way. I still treat them like family X3

Thank you for making this. I’m often seen as rude or scary or bad, I’m really just trying to help. Im the protector of the system and I hold on to a lot of bad memories that host has been through and just try to make things a little better. I’m really defensive over her and everyone else in the system, so often if I feel threatened or if I feel they’ve been threatened. I get defensive and insult people or yell at them. But I’m not a bad alter or anything.. Anyways, thank you very much. -Eduardo

Hey guys, gift idea for Karen - The Adventures of Princess and Mr Whiffle, by Patrick Rothfuss. Karen telling her story really reminded me of it, and I think she might really love it. It's a not-for-children children's picturebook, and you'll see why it's "not-for-children" but plenty of children love it, I hear. You can find Rothfuss reading it on KZread, he's read it a number of times in Q&As. We're poor as heck so may never be able to get it to you, maybe give it a watch and consider getting a copy? Also thank you for the educational video, this one had useful things I didn't know 🧡 -Sim The Phoenix System

My little girl inside is Kati 3 and her brother Joey 4 he's sometimes 6 years old. Kati was the very 1st of all them. Often as a adult I could hear at night a little girl crying .But. Even before I found out about the other 9 of them. I never was scared, I wanted to hold the little girl crying. I wanted to tell her she was safe and ok. Many times the next morning I would awake in my bedroom. I would be in corner with my knees up to my chest holding my grandpas bible to my chest also. Come to find out it was actually Kati in the corner. Now years later she never cries and knows she is safe. She loves playing coloring. He brother signs her name. That baby little girl saved me Tina when the sexual abuse started when I was also at age 3. I love that sweet heart.

Anyone feel free to answer this. I'm a singlet who also wants to end the stigma against DID so I create characters and comics about characters with it, doing as much research as possible to make things accurate. My current system character has a persecutor/introject who has a silver tongue, manipulates everyone, and lies about almost everything. I eventually want this alter to have a redemption arc, where his ways of coping (the lies and manipulation ((tw: emotional abuse)) ) are addressed as no longer beneficial and he takes on a new role. My question is, how could this form of tw: emotional abuse help or fill a role an outside persecutor left? Right now I have it as he wants the host to lie to the people, rather than hurting them with the truth, avoiding them being mad at the host for said truth. How could this be expanded on for an introject? Sorry for the long question

I want to say to caren. It's not your fault. I didn't deserve being abused. I'm here for u. I know what it's like to be abused. I was abuse myself.

Hi. I wanted to ask. Are there no alters that exist that are without reason or cannot be reasoned with?

I’m really scared to take contact to my alters directly. I know they know something that I don’t. I’ve been in a good mood for a while and I don’t want it to stop. I have figured out what triggers me and why do I get triggered. I also know to avoid things that trigger me. I’d like to know why my Trigger alter is what he is. He doesn’t like vegetables, he is really skinny and only uses black clothes. The veggie thing suggests me that he is young. He wants to be really mean and scary to others. I know he is hurt from the inside. I think he could have been formed when I was bullied in school by boys. I always wondered why didn’t I get visibly upset and why was I so different from everyone else. Seems like dissociation is the reason.

No hate, but the music is so distracting to me. :-P Especially, because this video was SO interesting. Just found your channel recently and I love it.

Thank you for the feedback! We've had a few comments like this on other videos as well so we're probably going to drop the music track from now on. Thanks for helping us keep up the quality of our videos :) -Wyn

I think Karen has been helped by therapy and the system, which is so cool.
