    You don't understand, this is literally *exactly* what I do. Like, I can't watch scary movies AT ALL (I have managed to get all the way through exactly three horror movies in my 19 years of life and none of them were enjoyable) but I always want to know what happens, so I just go on wikipedia and read the entire plot synopsis. I do this for whole franchises. Once spent around an hour (in the middle of the night, for some reason) reading the entire plot synopsis for every single movie in the Conjuring universe.

    I'll be honest I don't watch horror movies because I don't find them sacary at all. I found the conjering to be just another ghost/deamon movie with nothing really special about it.

    absolutely me too! i like the psychological tension of spooky shit but actually seeing it will give me nightmares for weeks. i am perfectly content to just read the plot on wikipedia and let my imagination do the PG-rated rest.

    I recommend looking for video's on youtube that explain the plot. The fact that you can pause, skip 5 seconds or watch with the player on just a part of the screen instead of fullscreen gives you enough empowerment that it takes most of the scariness out of it while still being able to see some of the scary stuff.

    This is too real, my favorite are Final Destination Wikipedia pages because they usually read like "Everyone agrees to meet at a diner and discuss Brad's death. As Jennifer approaches the diner a rogue semi truck decimates a nearby grain silo, washing her away in a flood of grain. Jennifer is then devoured by birds."

    This is truly hilarious and so real for me! I do NOT do scary movies. After watching your Red Flags video, however, I was curious if my disgusting assumptions about Human Centipede were true (I had never even heard of it prior to Red Flags). I summoned the courage to read the plot on Wikipedia and was quite disturbed to realize that I had, indeed, understood correctly what that film was about.

    I do this exact thing because I can't handle jump scares for the life of me, but I absolutely LOVE psychological horror and the "events" of horror movies, so reading about the movies' plots are way more enjoyable than watching the movie. If there were any horror movies that were just made to be creepy and have a really good plot _without any jump scares,_ that would be a perfect movie for me. Jump scares have always felt really cheap to me, and some people may find that enjoyable but definitely not me.

    Mostly commenting so I can get a notif if anyone drops any recommendations 😳 but if you’re a fan of the tf2 videogame, this guy used the character models & worldbuilding and animated a full-length fan horror movie (Emesis Blue) that is a genuinely fantastic love letter to horror media of all kinds! It’s chock full of references to scenes to classic horror movies and books, genuinely scary, and closest thing to a jumpscare is when a guy turns off the lights and shines a lighter on his face. like it is seriously jumpscareless. gamers can have a little horror movie as a treat.

  • @dudekazoo

    @dudekazoo

    7 ай бұрын

    I feel you on the jumpscares thing. They mess me up for some reason, especially the sound aspect. Shakes, tachycardia, the whole nine yards. So I'm trying really hard to remember a horror movie that legitimately had none. I want to say "It follows" didn't have any, I don't remember any. The original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" has a couple moments that were quite sudden but not full on jump scares. I think "Nope" was also jumpscare free. You can probably google them to double check.

    With being a hyper-visual person (is that a thing?) when I see something played out in front of me I can clearly replay that thing in my mind over and over again. Colors, emotions, all of it, so watching a horror film means I replay awful, horrible, disgusting things in my mind at inopportune times - like before bed or during intimacy 😬 yikes! I do this with video games. I'll start watching a youtuber play a scary game, get too scared by it, and then go read the game's entire wiki so I know everything about it before I come back and can finally enjoy the video. Horror game lore also tends to be really confusing and complicated on purpose, so oftentimes I only notice lore in the game because I read about it online first.

    This is incredibly relatable. It's always so great and surreal to see songs highlighting these mundane, yet unspoken about things. I think I enjoy the written format for disturbing and horror media more because it's escapable. I can take my eyes away from the text and stop reading, the horror isn't being autonomously projected at me. I am fascinated by these dark and disturbing things often portrayed in horror media but too usually scared to consume it directly and don't really sit down to read books usually. I think that the sterile and brief encyclopedic descriptions are great in delivering the plot and concepts but not subjecting me to the horror fully directly.

    This is literally what i do for fun. Every few months i would find a thread or posts full of the scariest grossest most fucked up horror movies and I'll fill my browser tabs full of them wikipedia pages. I'll spend days just looking through them during work hours and having the time of my life. Glad to see this is somewhat universal

    I wish I had read about Stephen King‘s IT as a child instead of watching it. But there was no internet back then and not even a VHS cover since my brother had recorded it from TV. Pennywise still gives me fricking nightmares today, 25 years later.

    I do this all the ding dang time. I hate watching scary things/playing horror games, but I love learning the plots of them. At best I can watch someone give a review or synopsis for movies or a letsplay for gaming. For whatever reason having that buffer dulls the fear to an enjoyable level
