Abstract impressionist artist Scarlett Raven is no stranger to the complexities of mental health. For her, the canvas has long served as both a battleground and a sanctuary, where she confronts her inner demons and discovers moments of tranquillity to quiet the chaos of her mind.
In her latest collection, Beyond The Surface, Raven’s floral textured canvases are back, but this time, in stunning all-white compositions. The result is a captivating collection, devoid of colour yet bursting with emotion. This collection is of deep significance to the artist, who has experienced decades of challenges with her mental health. Confronting her fifth nervous breakdown head-on, the original artworks in this collection were painted during a time of profound struggle earlier this year. Over the last four months, she has immersed herself in her studio, using her art as a lifeline to navigate the turbulent waters of her mind. Each day, she painted, letting the paint guide her through the darkness, knowing that if she stopped, the breakdown would consume her.
