Scaring Myself Riding Kirroughtree's Big Slab!

Спорт

I've ridden here around 10 years ago and now that bike technology has improved I just had to come back and see if McMoab's rock slab was rollable at Kirroughtree trail centre.
I did see some tyre marks on top that might suggest it's been done before but I asked online and no one came forward so I'm hoping this is the first time it's been done but I am more than willing to accept it's not.
Big thanks once again to Fraser for his help, please go give him a follow :)

Fraser is such a good rider, has a good eye for camera angles and his comments are interesting! Good to see him back! And Ali is a beast of course for riding down the middle bit of that horrible slab!

I worked as a mtb guide/skills coach and took Steve Jones "Jonesy" (dirt mag) and Joe Barnes/Stu Thompson/Fergus Lamb round the Red/Black route in 2007 for a multi page feature in Dirt Mag and can confirm that Joe managed to ride up the slab chute and down all areas of the face onto the road. It’s still a brave move to ride the face though, not something I bothered to do despite riding the trail 100’s/1000’s of times as I stay only 25mins away

Awesome to have Fraser out I think it makes doing some of these challenges a lot funner and great he's filming too. Knowing hes a good rider and seeing him ride the same stuff makes for a good insight into just how serious this terrain is!

Think you fully promoted all the needed equipment, except for the big balls. Those roll downs are so fun. The start is always the hardest part, much less stressful when you have a few more feet to roll in so you don't have to stare at the drop.

Great filming and really nice bikes! Awesome mtb riding skills from Ali and Fraser. Knee pads and elbow pads should always be worn to prevent unnecessary injuries that can bench you for 6-12 weeks.

Thank you! I often do wear knee pads on the MTB but it’s nice not to have them on occasionally, I’ve never worn elbow pads though, I think they’d distract me too much and cause me to crash more often

  • @mesabman

Good elbow and knee pads won't distract you at all and will protect you from unnecessary injuries. I wear Fox D3O pads and really like them. You are a great rider but one day you're likely going to have a big accident because we all make mistakes and some are out of our control. I've been riding BMX and mountain bikes seriously for over 44 years and speak from experience. A shattered elbow or a crushed knee cap is not something you want.

I can’t stand how all KZreadrs speak the same these days. “Hi guys!” Generic KZreadr here! And today, I’m doing X!” Your personality gets lost and you fade into the zeitgeist.

@@Ali_Clarkson Maybe I’m the one who’s wrong then. I’m definitely no authority on anything. Just feels strange that we seem to have collectively accepted that you should speak in a certain way on KZread. I’d love to know exactly why people do it. Is it just a natural behaviour of human conformity? Is it influenced by people trying to feed the algorithm? Is it subconsciously copied from broadcast TV? Is it just a function of KZread being an enclosed platform where each creator learns from others? And if so, who is patient zero? Who knows, but it does make me cringe a bit. Sorry for just spewing random thoughts on your video. It was pretty rude. My bad.

@@MarioGoatse no stress dude. I think it’s because I feel like I’m addressing a group of people like you would a guide and it seems rude not to wish them well. That said, sometimes I do just start the video with not much chat and straight into the point (like my Shadowcat setup video).
