SCARIEST Track Day Experience | Honda S2000 Loses Brakes at over 100mph!

➢LEGENDS MEDIA STORE: legends.media/
In today's video I take you guys along for my second track day at Buttonwillow in my Honda S2000! Unfortunately the car wasn't running 100% this day. The brakes are shot from 3 hard track days and just wouldn't stop! Towards the end of my day i lost all brakes and almost lost control entering into a corner at 100+mph!

    [KAIN] KillOrDeath you’re right. However, it’s worth reminding him again. He said in one of the 1st videos that “he should replace the rear brake pads but there was no stock of Spoon ones”, so he didn’t and tracked the car 3/4 times. There you go. I’ve very limited track experience in my S2K, however I’ve never ever showed up without a proper check of the pads and eventually a 2nd st of them.

    Essential track-day tools and accessories are as follows: A full 5 gallons of replacement oil and a replacement drain plug and crush washer, Impact gun, breaker bar, socket set, a few gallons of coolant and/or distilled water, spare wheels and tires, spare brake pads, extra brake fluid for 2 brake fluid changes, speed bleeder (I recommend the Motive power bleeder), tire pressure gauge, jack and jack stands, zip-ties, and a torque wrench. Having all those will majority of the time allow you to get back out on track if anything happens and let you make the most of the day that you pay for to be there and run your car.

    you need vented rear discs from either urge or reillyracing , the oe rears overheat and basically completely fade, then the fronts work extra hard and overheat. the spoon brakes basically do nothing as the front discs are too thin and lack sufficient heat capacity and dont have large enough vents to cool the fronts sufficiently. you will need to upgrade the rears and the fronts to a real front brake kit from someone such as stoptech

    Dustin. Use Carbotech XP10 or higher brake pads. Do a full flush of ur brake system for the Wilwood EXP600 racing brake fluid. It’s higher wet and dry boiling pint then Motul. Honestly you will get a solid brake pedal all session long and never fade with this setup.

    yep losing brakes at that speed makes for some serious pucker factor should run racing pads street one's on the track will wear down to nothing in a very short order and also tossing in racing brake fluid since they heat up to some serious temps that way the fluid doesn't break down so easy.

    DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 fluid. Dedicated track pads to start. Brembos or AP racing if you want better heat absorption. Also consider some ducting to the brakes. It will help keep your brakes from cooking.

  • @PenguinScotty
    @PenguinScotty4 жыл бұрын

    I'd suggest switching to SRF for the brake fluid, that'll help a lot. RB600 or 660 needs to be bled after every event, SRF has been significantly better. By running down the pads metal on metal, you also more than likely superheated the fluid in the back, that'll also add to the problem of the soft pedal. Running a street pad in the rear means it'll overheat and start fading very very fast. Realistically, you may be able to get 3-4 laps before they are toast/fading. The 'transfer layer', as it was described, is actually something you want. That's what happens when you bed in pads. A slight film of the pad gets transferred to the rotor, increasing braking performance. What can happen is, if you switch compounds, some do NOT like other compounds, resulting in a really bad transfer layer resulting in vibration and lack of performance. Additionally, you can also glaze the pads when not properly bedding them. If that happens, may as well throw them away.

    Not sure if you are reading all these comments, but I'll provide some suggestions (based on what I do with my S2000). First, between each track event, I take off my brake pads to measure them and then flip them inside and out. One side wears faster than the other with the OEM calipers. You'll get more life out of them this way. The piece about measuring them, is that you can then judge how much pad you are using on each track. So if you see you have 5mm of pad left, and you know the last time you were at the same track you used 3mm of pad, then you know you might be ok for the event. But if you know you used 5-6mm last time, you will know you need new pads. Next, I wouldn't bother will drilled and slotted rotors. I've had good success with Centric Cryo rotors. If you plan to keep the OEM calipers, look into adding brake ducting. As others have mentioned, braided lines and good brake fluid will also help. Good luck and keep up the good work. Lastly, you might want to make sure you have "Spot Metering" enabled on your GoPro. It will adjust the outside light so it doesn't make the track too bright. The consequence is that the interior will be darker but you'll be able to see what's out the window.

    Not one to comment and idk why no one has told you this but thought I’d shed some knowledge since I really want you to succeed at the track. If you want less pad transfer from the rotors, run blank rotors (still vented obv). When the pads get hot, they get sliced from the slots and drilled parts. Second thing, run some better pads personally I use carbotech xp12s cause they can handle the heat better but knowing this is an all spoon build just run some better spoon pads. Since you’re already going this hard, buy some blank rotors from like rock auto and carry them with you on track days since blanks tend to crack with high heat, no biggie since they’re 30 bucks on rock auto or again since you’re doing a spoon build get more spoon rotors lol. Stainless steel lines as well but I can’t remember if you upgraded them. Lastly if you want to be a baller and upgrade to the best brake fluid, look into castrol spf (if I remember correctly) it’s like 60 bucks a quart tho... You’re getting really good, I love the track content dude. Hope to run into you one day at bw with my S as well!

    I'm only going to say this once.. Its great to see new beginners working hard to develop their skills and car controls. Now, as for some of your "consumables" is questionable.. Biggest mistake was getting AutoZone pads. If you ran out of pads, I rather end the day early than use those pads. Now, I see way too many people suggesting changing everything related to the braking system (lines, pads, calipers, rotors), and not one person suggested brake cooling.. Yes, you are correct if you say brakes need heat to stop, but at a temperature range. If you're below, it's not a big deal, you only wouldn't get full braking power. However, if you're over the threshold, things will start going wrong; pads disintegrating , fluids boiling, brakes fading, caliper seals melting. So as an advise, throw those "Duralast" pads in the trash, get yourself some decent high performance pads that has been proven on the track (I'm guessing you're still on the Spoon front pads; so for the rear, get something that is equal or less in power), and work on brake ducts.

    I know you're sponsored by Spoon and trust me, I love Spoon parts... 75% of the parts on my car are Spoon. However their BBK is not the greatest. A slightly larger caliper utilizing stock/stock size rotors isn't really that great. You need a BBK that offers 2 piece rotors... like Stoptech, Alcon, AP Racing, and or Brembo.

    Dut, you need to be completely flushing the brake fluid after every few track days, and using at least rbf 600. Fluid flush and check pads. This is your life we’re talking about
