he respected his mother but he doesn't know how to respect his mother, any mother would be sad probably pissed like she is when she didn't hear a word from her son in 5 years! and suddenly tony throw $1,000 in the table like that? that's disrespect, and a true mother has her pride. He should had asking for apologized first then gently giving $1,000 to his mom, too bad tony is too tough for that lol

Im sure he was a mercenary in cuba as the last mission he did to even get into u.s was to murder someone. But he depended on the concept of america being 'the land of opportunity' and whether you was a farmer or a bum or criminal, the opportunity was equal to all. Castro loved his people allegedly, but he was and still is associated with C.I.A. The rogue agents of that organisation had connects of 'coke' distributors throughout central america and perhaps needed people from an impoverished country to help shift keys in Florida for them. Just like with the mexicans, columbians, etc.

BS, Tony is not some idiot, he knows the difference between good and bad and even pretended to have a code of honor about not killing children, BUT HE STILL CHOSE the criminal path and had to ruin other people's lives. nobody gives birth to a bad seed , you dont raise kids appropiately, your not there for them emotionally, theres/ abuse / neglect, different things, and kids can have trauma/ losses,. One of the reactions to trauma is becoming a bully / the narcisistic response / (tonys response) their are other responses (becoming compliant) thankfully we can get out of it and learn healthy boundaries to keep my inner child and true self safe , and finding safe enough conneciton as well. If you didnt raise your kids correctly / werent emotionally there for them they will have losses which is why thankfully this generation is doing a lot of healing work, with gentleness humor love and respect and self attunement healthy boundaries, to keep my inner child and true self safe and integrated and me finding safe enough connection where i will get my needs for connection met were worth it :)!

I only discovered this movie through being a hip hop fan. So many rappers idolize Tony Montana, Sosa, and the lifestyles they led. So when I watched the movie I was surprised, because it seems they all completely missed the point. Tony Montana isn't just some badass kingpin/overlord guy that towers over everyone and everything in his way. He is a deeply flawed man who made some good deals, had a ton of luck, and in the end completely lost his sanity and lost all that he cared about. He wasn't ultimately portrayed as powerful, but as a mentally weak man who put on a facade of being powerful

Unfortunately I feel both sides. Tony and his mother. Be hard on your children but also say I love you. Or else all they ever hear is you yelling. Even if it was for the best intentions. Mother played a role in the downfall. Every scene she is yelling at Tony. The more I watch Scarface the deeper the film really is. It was all love though.

He didn't get that scar collecting donations for the food bank. She could've scolded him nicer maybe but at that point she would just be enabling him. She wanted him gone from Gina to give her a fair shot at an honest life. Gina wasn't mature/wise enough to see Tony and his crowd for what they were and you see how that went. Wish the whole scene was uploaded. This is how a real Latina mother reacts. At first silent, just watching the interaction. Then carefully will interact, then when she's had enough of the bullshit she will explode. She will have her say, and you better listen carefully because she means it. Don't ever cross her when it comes to defending the purity of her children when she wants to keep them away from the already corrupted ones. I totally love how she blocks her daughter, my mother did that to me once. I never dared to pass because I knew what would happen if I did.

Nothing Latina about this mother. OK maybe she is partially, but she clearly, by the accent and her personality, is a white-wannabe. Again you're probably hearing Latin English accents in your mind. Clearly this woman sounds like Frank Lopez from "Scarface." "I don't-a-come to this-a-country" is what I'm hearing in her English accent not freaking "STOP IT BRO! I'M LATINA BRO!" (that English accents), no. Cubans are white with those Frank Lopez English accents. So no... -ez surnames sound like Frank Lopez from "Scarface." This is how white moms who are racist bitches and abusive tend to act. I know cause that lady is every white racist and white-wannabe bitch I've known, same English accent everything Spaniard does not mean Hispanic, moron

When you think about it, Tony and his mom are very much alike under certain aspects. Both unwilling to compromise their code of honor and very perceptive about other people real motivations and character. Like his mama, Tony does not get fooled by the impression that people are doing her a favor. This scene mirrors the one with Omar, Tony and Manolo, where Manolo is all giggly about Omar’s offer of a 500 bucks for the marijuana job and Tony brushes it off as an insult - just like his mama does with him and the money he offers. When you hear Tony explaining his “word and balls” code you’d think at first he got that kind of stuff from a male figure, but it’s clear he was actually applying in his own way his mother’s philosophy. Only thing, he perverted that moral assertiveness into some bullshit gangsta code of honor who led him to destruction. The main difference is that unlike Tony, his mama couples that assertiveness with not being a sociopath.

Be a good man She's absolutely right latinos did not risk thier lives coming to America so thier children can end up doing this. It's shameful. She's tough and mean because she wants the best for him and Gina. Yes i love that she said it's people like you that give people like us a bad name. That is soooooooo TRUE!

Rodislav Canev "This is where he got his balls and his honesty" No criminal can be an "honest man". As for his "balls"it would have been better if he got his mother's dignity, sense and clean mind. "Not really fair to call him a bum tho" In Cuba he was. He was one on the USA too until he started earning bucks in the illegal drug trade. Makes him a rich bum rather than a poor bum. "He also works for his living " No he does *not* . An illegal trade doesn't qualify as "working for a living" - that's for honest and legal jobs. "and a dangerous job too" It's NOT a job. Nobody forced him to get involved in criminal activities. The bottom line is he deserves no praise for that as if he were a fire fighter running into burning buildings to save trapped people. *That'* is a dangerous job. "In fact, he was just too ambitious." No, the word you're looking for is too GREEDY. Like any greedy man he wanted it all. "Everything that made Tony great came from his mother" Except for her honesty, principled and legal way of life and morals. Seriously. Your assessment is beyond belief.

@@jamesshunt5123 Obviously Tony is a criminal and a bad guy. The praise I give him is through tthat lens, which is upside down. If I had to give him a more objective judgement I would say the same things as you did. But Its not like romanticizing a criminals life is something surprising and shocking as you make my statements to be. During the time of Al Capone it was pretty mainstream from what I know and this movie does it too, altho only to an extent. Doesnt mean that I want people to be criminals or myself, but its interesting and emotional. True, he didnt get all the great things from his mom. He was still a broken man. But there were great things about him and they came from his mom, so my statement still stands. I didnt mean "honest" in a general sense you seem to focus on - like he is a pillar of society or something - synonym for fair. Im talking about raw honesty - being true to what you are and not hide it from everyone. Obviously Tony lies, but he tells the truth even when he lies. He has the guts to be what he wants to be. A criminal yes, but that takes guts. Not many people will have the balls to live a life like that. If even 1 % of what has happened to him during his crime carrear happened to any of us, it would fuck us in the head for life. And he was not just a regular bum, he was a top tier crime boss. He had a brand and staff and everything. He worked hard and he did it under the threat of death and jail So whatever man idgaf what you qualify as a job. Work is work, illegal or not. If you exchange your time to make profit and build an empire, yes its work. Especially if it takes a lot of effort. Would the word occupation be more suitable for your senses ffs? What would be? Criminal antroponour?Because the only difference is that its criminal. That is a big difference as far as morals are concerned, but I was speaking more about his efforts and dedication. When I hear a bum i imagine someone who does nothing all day, like a neet. I am aware now that bum is used as a pejorative for a criminal. So In that respect its true, altho a wierd description imo Obviously noone should do such work. Obviously he doest get the same prase as a fireman. Its the mirror image of that. Also, life is not black and white. If you really want to break down the criminal activity, most of the violance was towards other gang members and politicians. Killing is wrong in general, but he clearly had a moral line. He wouldnt kill innocent people. He wouldnt kill a mom and her children. He sacrificed his own life to save theirs. In that moment Tony was a hero. He didnt want his sister to be draged into his criminal life and tried to protect her innocence and he clearly loved his mother more than anything in the world, even tho she hated his guts. He isnt like the mass shooters that shoot up schools in america or something. Tony would despise evil like this and would personaly blow their brains out

@@jamesshunt5123 everything you said is opinion based and there was no facts in your comment at all. A lot of people like yourself have this FALSE belief that just because you work a job it makes you a better person than someone that may make money a non traditional way and that’s just not true and it never will be true. You say “no criminal can ever be a honest man” once again your entitled to your opinion but that’s another false statement. I grew up in the hood so i got to see the drug dealers and some were really good and honest people. I would never let someone else that has no clue what they’re talking about tell me any differently. I’ve seen these “criminals” steer kids (including me) away from the streets and force kids to stay in school and play sports. Now that’s honesty and integrity! It’s always the people that come from a privileged position or the people that just have no clue because they grew up in a sheltered environment that make these stupid statements.
