Scarface talks Tupac, Kendrick Lamar, says Hip Hop is white now

Ойын-сауық

www.hardknock.tv Exclusive in-depth interview with Scarface backstage at Paid Dues. In part 2 Facemob talks to Nick Huff Barili about the current state of Hip Hop saying that he loves Kendrick Lamar but that older white executives that are in control of Hip Hop are not in touch with the streets and don't care about the culture. Scarface goes on to say that he thinks its a conspiracy to make black people look stupid and brainwash a generation of hip hoppers with "this crud". "I feel like we losing [hip hop]. I feel like the people that are in control of what hip hop does is so fucking white and so fucking Jewish until they don’t give a fuck about what the culture and the craft and what it really is about. I don’t know if the motherfucker is trying to really… Let me say this shit right, because I want it to be as offensive as I can fucking make it. These ol’ ass punks that’s running these record labels, in the powerful positions to dictate what the black community hears and listens to, you know what I mean? I fucking hate that shit. Like that shit pisses me off. Like there’s no fucking way that you can tell me it’s not a conspiracy against the blacks and hip-hop, because you put up fucking records that make us look stupid, make us look dumb, you brainwash a generation of hip-hoppers with this fucking crud." Scarface's advice to upcoming artists is to uphold the integrity of the craft and not to let the executives dictate our culture. Scarface references how Chuck Berry and Robert Johnson helped found rock and roll and blues but how now both those genres are predominately white and have forgotten their black roots. He goes on to point out that its hard to name many all black rock bands making music today.
As the conversation topic changes, Facemob talks about recording and touring with Tupac who used to open for him. Scarface says Pac would have rode on a lot of people out now like Mitt Romney and that Pac was going to politicize his fan base before he was killed. Part 2 of this interview ends with Facemob sharing a story of the last time he spent time with Pac which was when they recorded the track Smile.

That's why they bought all the radio stations. Because they want to force certain music to the listeners. Back in the days if you went to different regions of the country and turned on the radio, You would hear artists from that region. Not anymore. Now every urban radio station keeps the same 15-20 songs in rotation and they are played everywhere across the country. They did that for control. And if you dislike what's being played, you're a "hater." They're trying to whitewash Hip-Hop. Over the next decade, you will see more and more white rappers coming out. Mark my words...

I agree with Scarface. I'm white and I love Hip Hop. I appreciate the culture and I hate seeing it diluted by white businessmen dictating the future of a black platform. I'm 32 so hip hop has been influential in the sense that it's a genre that originated and blossomed during my formative years. I truly don't listen to any other genre of music. Hip Hop, conscious rap I should clarify, speaks to my soul, but I recognize that I am purely a fan. I can't stand current mainstream rap. Somewhere along the line, the message, the hunger, was misplaced, which gave way for many frauds. That's just my take

Jewish people are not white. Look at the last names of every movie and record label owner. They have Jewish last names. They stand with Israel more than they will ever stand with America. Know the difference in cultures and races. Europe is white. The Middle East is where Jews originated from. They only have white skin because of mixing. For hundreds of years.

I think some of you misunderstood what Scarface was saying here. He is not saying white rappers SHOULD NOT be part of the hip hop culture, he is saying that they should not control the hip hop culture and manipulate it to make black people look stupid. All you people in the comments who said "I will never buy a white rappers record" and "All white rappers suck", you missed the fucking point. He doesn't like the fact that some white rappers have dominated the culture.

No you missed the point. He was not saying that white rappers HAVE dominated the culture, have implies that they presently dominate the culture, which has not happened yet. He was saying that the white people who run the record companies, and own the majority of the business are trying to push black people out of rap and replace them with whites. The record companies are also trying to brainwash people into trying to live the lifestyle that these hot garbage spraying rappers on the radio rap about. This is why black rappers that actually have skill and rap with substance are not played like the garbage they consistently play on radio stations across the country. I don't think the average everyday white person is to blame for this, but I don't think the average everyday white person would mind, if only whites rapped either.

I'm white and he's saying something I've been saying for years. This shit happens in every popular music genre. The people that created or really define and embody a particular genre, become irrelevant to the labels as the genre becomes commercialized. The music is marketed towards the high school age demographic. Here's the cycle as I see it, no matter the genre. Marketing towards the tone deaf- white- teenage masses, will eventually redefine anything getting radio play. The soul rock and roll of the late 50's and 60's... ruined by white folks. Country music is all about whether you're pretty or not. Talent is irrelevant. Can't sing? No matter. You're pretty, you'll be a star. Rap and hip-hop music are no different. Once rap became mainstream America, it was the beginning of the end. The lyricists from the late 80's and early 90's, can destroy most of these clowns today, rapping about their bling, money and cars. There is no content or wordplay for the most part. "Fuck your money! Fuck your cars! N____ spit some hot bars!", The villian

I might improvise the Spanish guitar over a hip-hop or tribal house backtrack. Or improvise while reciting what I call "ghetto poetry". Later I tell people the lyrics were written by 2pac. Macklemore put out a quality album and the people hating on him are the people that didn't give him a chance. No, not because he was white, but because they only listened to "Thrift Shop" and "Same Love" and thought that he was wack. Macklemore has put in his dues and so has Kendrick, why can't we just respect both of them? They will be leading the next generation as they both spread there messages and positivity through their lyrics.

I respect Scarface for what he has done and achieved but, I am starting to change my mind on what I think of him. First of all music is music, independently of what race creates it. It doesn't (or shouldnt) have a "race" trademark. It seems he is trying to look for an excuse for the likes of todays society. He could have just complained about how comercial music is prevailing over quality music and that's it. There are many talented artists that are playing on the street to survive that have more talent than the so-called superstars that cope todays music lists, win grammys and make millions just because they are trendy. But he had to bring out the black/white subject like it would make a bigger impression. Who cares if Rock'n Roll was invented by a black man or a white one? Is it good? Do you like it? You can have your own opinion but the fact that it was created by one race or another is irrelevant. Please we are in the 21st century and we must move on. Complaining about these things while binging out the subject of racism is just preventing us to solve the problem. Cheers.

Zora Haviland It's an opinion. No one has to care about it. Your comment just shows what I just explained, but you have your head so deep up your ass you don't even realize. It's not about a race taking away from another. It's about single, individual rich idiots who represent nobody but themselves. Just because they are white doesn't mean they represent a race. Just because I am against some of the politics of Obama doest mean I am against all of the U.S. You have to stop living in the past and get over it. And by the way, learn to express yourself better mate, I hardly understood your comment. Cheers!

Whites been took over rap music. Every form of music as far as rock, country, rap, etc. originates from rhythm and blues, which is black music. If you really go back you'll see how things like The Salsa which is considered an African love dance from Afro-Cubans. One of the most important instruments used in country music is the banjo and that instrument originated in west africa, the thing with black people is we always want to integrate with other races especially whites and that's when we lose our culture and financial stability. We did it with segregation. You don't see Asians trying to integrate Chinatown or Korea Town with other groups. That's their community and they've built it to much success. 99 percent of rappers are black and yet we own no labels, no distribution, nothing. you see what happened when Suge Jay da Prince, and Irv Gotti tried to create their own label and union for rappers, the Feds came in and put cases on Suge and Gotti, because whenever black threaten the status quo or economic order in America the powers to be will try to destroy you.

***** Were not talking about Unsigned or Underground artist. we're talking about the mainstream artist which over the last 15yrs have destroyed the art form of Hip Hop with mediocre beats & dumb downed lyrics. see I am a first generation Hip Hopper. and over the last 35yrs I have seen this art form grow to the point that it once influenced the world in a positive & negative capacity. now it only influences the people of this planet in a negative capacity. I know many of the shorties that are rapping in today's mainstream rap industry can rap better than what they are presenting to the public. but so many of them want a bullshit record deal so bad (360 deal) that they will allow record execs to get in their heads & influence them to put out GARBAGE that is harmful to the young teens that listen to it. Hip Hop in the mainstream is dead. and the only way it's going to come back is that this new generation must learn the true history & culture of Hip Hop. and they must learn & respect that it is a black art form. they also must break away from these bullshit ass satanic record companies who can care less about art. because all these record companies care about is to make money & to indoctrinate the masses.

When rappers do make quality music content we need to support them and TURN OFF any radio station or show that plays the degrading, belittling, demeaning music. Not saying other guys who knew Pac are faking it when describing their friendship with him, but the way Face recounts his times with him, the humor in some of it and the tone of his voice when he's like "I miss that dude.", there was definitely something deeper going on that for anyone who have had a close relationship with someone can relate to.

I hear what he's saying, but it takes 2 to tango, one to offer a contract and a sell out to sign it! When I say sell out, I mean literally sell all your artistic rights over to someone with enough power to change what you do! So it's also down to the artists decision to hold back from that and stay true to the art of Hip Hop if the contract doesn't feel right for the elements..

Normally I reserve my thoughts and comments on the matters Mr. Jordan touched on for person to person conversations but this touched me because many if not most individuals under 25 regard these statements as negative or "HATING" but if we ask ourselves why would a man responsible for the model that almost every popular hip-hop and or rap artist seems to want to follow or mold themselves after is so upset at its current state we almost always have to avoid saying that he has yet to find a proper torch bearer because its far more comforting to simply misunderstand that the same people who built the house would prefer to see left to someone who will cut the grass and prune the rose bushes. After all the very same metaphorical house is one which someone saw from afar for years and wondered how can I have that, and at some point decided to go all in to remove not only its architect but its caretakers and rightful owner redesign redecorate and remodel to their own liking while completely disregarding the fact that the very same house does not belong solely to its occupants so in a oh so sly and devious manner you hear chants or a chorus of my people, me and mine, do it for yall or what have you. Which is where the problem lies those that wish to see Face or his peers shuttled off to (insert nursing home name of your choice) so that he correction .... they will finally start to become a distant memory but what we forget is those (myself included) same people have spent more years numerous funds and incurred losses we dare not imagine to get the sound of the people where it is today .... so if Face say he mad at todays current state of "urban music" then damn it maybe its time to stop talking about who said blank is fire and start listening to someone who was there when the house was abandoned. Keep lyricism alive support real artist not the lame fucks who still shackling our minds with trash that only they wanna hear. How many times we gotta be spoon fed that B.S. line if they like cool if not fuck them I do this for the ones who know my struggle. Or better yet ask yourself who can better prepare you for the future your grandparents or your so called friends. Obviously granny don't know anything she can't work an ipod and grand-daddy still looking for the knob to turn the channel on his flat screen so clearly they don't know shit. But maybe they have more important lessons for us to learn that we might have to just hear them out on. After all its was more than luck that keep them alive so long much like how its no accident that when Mr. Jordan says its something going on with the industry we might not wanna just toss what insight he has for the behind the scenes moves to the way side. If he said I wanna stay on top and there's no room for this one or that one id think he was holding on to his youth instead he clearly states how he can see the death of his love because its not being tended to properly .... its now all about the money but its most definitely about the message

He is not sayin that white should not be a part of hip hop culture. nor is he saying that white should not listen to hip hop. He IS saying that we have to preserve its genuine aspects so it doesn't become watered down and killed like the music industry did to rock n roll. The reason he made the comparison is because BOTH rap and rock n roll were created by blacks originally (even if there were other cultures around or involved), in order to keep the music of our culture alive we cant let the corporate greedy record company owners and managers control what the public hears bcecause if they do then that means that they controll the destiny of the music because they'll allow the wack music that some rappers make to be heard, but not push the positive music to the same american/worldwide crowd that listens to the genre. When elvis remade alot of the classic rock songs created by blacks they promoted him as the king of rock and roll. next thing you know the common black or white person in american younger than 30 doesnt even know that rock was actually created by blacks and that they got pushed out of their own music genre by the corporate greedy record companies. Do you notice a pattern?

the problem isn't hip-hop going white, the problem is the increase of negligence towards hip-hop's roots, history, and pioneers. all this talk about skinny jeans, skirts, gays, whites, etc. affecting hip-hop for the worse is all bullshit. we can become more diverse without forgetting where we came from. however, this current era is just ignorant about the genre. i'm not saying that you have to know hip-hop like the back of your hand, but if we acknowledge the people/events/ideas/etc. that came before us, we can only grow as an intelligent culture. for example, it's safe to say that the 70's and 80's are forgotten decades of hip-hip. when the average head refers to the "old school," 99% of the time, they're talking about the 90's. and even though the 90's were only 24 years ago, the same, few names pop into conversation: eazy-e, 2pac, biggie, snoop, big l, nas, etc. all of them are dope MCs, but think about it: at the rate this is going, isn't it possible that other legends like large professor, spice 1, lord finesse, kool g, ras kass, canibus, jeru the damaja, scarface, and chubb rock will be forgotten in only decades? that thought is fucking scary, not to mention that we fail to recognize later MCs (very late 90's-early 00's) for being innovative as well. if we want hip-hop to stay authentic, we have to raise awareness of what is becoming forgotten. sure, times change. that's fine. but what isn't all good is the lack of true appreciation for the genre. everyone wants to make a dope beat and spit a nice rhyme, but very few want to take time to embrace the genre for what it is and actually spread that knowledge. i don't mind if the casual listener nods his head to a record without any knowledge of the hip-hop, but it's all a different story when we have heads who claim to be lovers of the art, dedicate themselves to it, yet contribute nothing significant because they refuse to do the easiest research.

He is so spot on with everything. Like him, I wasn't around when Rock n Roll first came about but I have seen it in Funk, soul, reggae, blues and jazz as well as hip hop. What annoyes me the most is when people who don't listen to these styles of music only get into it when a white pop artist takes to the Mic. I like to those who call Elvis the King to shut the fuck up. They invented Elvis Presley because they didn't want white kids especially girls to look up to black musicians like Chuck Berry and little Richard who were the true Kings of Rock n Roll. They invented it.

What's funny is that our parents told us Hip-hop was junk. That's what happens every generation. The main problem with this generation though is that Hip-hop was the last truly creative form of music made. In the 80's hip-hop, in the 70's Disco, in the 60's R and B and Soul, in the 50's Doo Wop. And the list goes on. Since the 80's nothing new has happened. Music has almost completely stopped evolving. And what you are left with are watered down versions of cool stuff!

I think people totally forget where Hip-Hop came from. Hip-Hop became music with a voice but it didn't start that way, it started as fun party music. Until the song the Message from Grand Master flash came out. Before that most of the songs were like what the Sugar Hill gang was putting out. Then it grew in to music with a voice! NWA, Public Enemy etc. But look at the roots. LL Cool J, Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, Sugar Hill Gang, Juice Crew, Kool Moe D. Party music, bragging and boasting. But original and creative. And UK garage, Grime, Dubstep? Those are not main stream forms of music. Hip-Hop is. So was Disco, Rock And Roll, Doo Wop, Jazz. Those all because main stream and at some point or another controlled the air waves. Since hip-hop show me anything else that has controlled the air-waves?

I grew up on Scarface and even the pre-Scarface Geto (Ghetto) Boys album, "Grip it on Another Level". Bought every album Scarface was on, even bought every album I could find on the old Rap-A-Lot label, anybody remember "The Convicts"? If not search, "Wash your Ass" by them, laughed for a whole summer while listening to that back in the 90s. He definitely isn't saying whites shouldn't rap, he's simply saying, whites, blacks, whoever, should pay respect to the history of rap and not go making it look dumb. My only problem, like many others, was the comment about Eric Clapton. It's a problem for me because Clapton made entire tribute albums to Robert Johnson, he's probably one of the most respectful guitar player when it comes to paying respects to the legends of the blues. Which is exactly what he is saying rappers should be doing towards the legends of rap, but says, "Clapton isn't the blues". Keep in mind Mister, Mister Scarface, there's many of us that read interviews with you back in the early 90s. Ones where the interviewer talked about you jamming to Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, two bands that are at best contemporaries of early Clapton. You wouldn't want people thinking you're a busta now would you B?

Essentially Hip Hop/Rap is divided into 4 major signatures. Lyrics, Flow, Music, & Persona. Lyrics are simply the words written & spoken. Flow is the sound, tone, and inflection of the artist's voice. Music is the literal sounds of beats, tunes, instruments heard. Persona is the character, swag, & impression depicted by the artist whether true or false. Some artists simply have juvenile, silly, or trivial lyrics. And for the most part, this is what Nas meant when he said "Hip Hop is dead." Souljah Boy Tell 'Em has silly & borderline crap for lyrics. The music he uses/creates is decent to good. His flow is a matter of one's opinion. His persona is the reflection of a 90s kid growing up on Hip Hop fashion & behavior of the 2000s. Basically, no flavor, no originality. He represents one extreme of the spectrum. Eminem represents the opposition extreme of the spectrum. Lyrics are always well-crafted with attention to details, imagery, emotion, flavor. Flow is a multifaceted from rapid fire, evenly toned, slow paced and masterfully timed. His musical recipes are always taken from the Cookbook of High Quality. His persona is in one word--unique. No single artist is the father of his image, the genesis of his personality. Is Hip Hop white-ran now? Not quite, but it will be in 10-12 years. White music executives know they cannot, at the moment, infuse the game with an onslaught of talented "white boy rappers" lest they expose themselves to black community backlash as hijackers. The million dollar question is "WHY will Hip Hop eventually become evenly dominated by white males & females & white agendas?" Because the black artists are content with Souljah Boy-level lyrics, flow, & persona; whereas the white artists know the must adopt an Eminem-level lyricism, multi-dimensional flow, tailored musical compositions, and signature personae. The blacks believe, and rightly so, that most black listeners will openly accept bullshit lyrics as long as they have club poppin' beats. The whites believe, and rightly so, that blacks aren't the financial force that will make or break their careers, thus to not be deemed "whack" "intruder" & a "one-hit wonder" they must spend more time & effort tailor-making their game. The truth of why white female rapper V-Nasty isn't widely popular is not because her lyrics & flow are trash (they're actually witty & smooth) but rather because her music isn't signature, her persona is that of a 90s white girl mimicking the fashion & behavior of the allegedly "hip" Hip Hop 2000s era. She raps quite well (for a snowbunny) but her persona seems like a gimmick, an assumption of what a "thug" white girl would look like and act like. You will not see an infuse of white rappers like her & Lady Sov in the coming years--their types of images won't work with blacks or whites. As far as males, they can come in any appearance from geeky (AdRock) to thuggish (Paul Wall). But the common denominator the bulk of them WILL HAVE is spicy, fiery, story-telling lyricism. The black rapper can say (and be treated as lyrical) "My car goes bump / Gotta Bubba like Gump / See dem rims spin / Like a merry-go-around, yo / Bang goes my glock / my eye on the clock as I clock dem dollars / holla at ya boy, yo ...." But if a white rapper says that same bullshit he will get his ass laughed out of town. The white rappers must say AND WILL come hard "Last night met a genie with a bottle / no not Aguilera / Jenna, Katie, maybe Sarah / Yes, Crystal with Julia's smile / No not Julia Childs / A pretty woman with 7 digits to dial ...." {Examples ONLY} So in my opinion, much of black Hip Hop lyricism & personae are boo-boo. Perhaps the game needs an invasion of blue-eyed, pale-skinned Paul Walls, Ke$has, Eminems, Slugs, etc. to save the game because when Ludacris(s), Nelly(s), Nas(s), & Tech9(s) retire or dearly depart Hip Hop will be a realm of poop rappers.

What he is saying is that hip hop was started by African American decedents who knew and know the struggle of our people culturally that is our way of expressing our desires to not have to deal with it. Just because you admire a style of music if you are a bystander and have no origin of the spirit that created it then stay on the side lines don’t polute it with your mix. Even if you embrace the style be honest enough to say I love it but that truth does not relate to my life. What scarface is saying is once we workd this music and got notoriety it then became a meal ticket to investors with no respect for truth and culture but those who worshiped a dollar and thats what messed up the music. When you have that going on then you have pollution because anybody could say something if they can afford it whether it uplifts or not.

Benzino is a horrible rapper in my opinion but you got to admit he was right back then when he was saying this was going to happen. He was owner of Source magazine even though he was rapping. He had a better insight on what was going to come in the future and what was going on with the media and the movement of music. But nobody listened......

Yep they got so caught up with his beef with Eminem. Of course Eminem had all the support but Benzino was trying to get something across but people took it off as him being just out of line. But in reality he new what was going to come in the future and now when i watch there beef, i feel weird about it.

What he is saying is true but I feel like now with the internet the music labels and the industry has way less control of what people listen to, so maintaining the culture really depends on the people who listen, if you like something listen, if you don't ignore it.

The people who control the music industry and dumb down RAP to manipulate the new generation and to make black people sound stupid dont only control do that to RAP. The thing about Hip Hop is that it was so lyrical, poetical, and with such a deep cultural root into the black community and history that its sad to see it be destroyed. As a white Brasilian I didnt always have the access to the newest (more manipulated) Hip Hop comming up, so I had the pleasure of getting to know the music when it concored and revolutionized the world. Music is ment to be art, its ment to reflect something beautiful or horrible, the truth through someone elses eyes, and its not ment to exist exclusively to catch peoples attention. Van Gogh wasnt recognized in his life time, that doesnt make his style and his madness any less beautiful. The thing is new artists dont want to come up with art, they have nothing toexpress, they write to make money by writing about the things money can give you. This culture created by the new artists is so self destructive and so corruptable it honestly pisses the shit out of me. Well ill stop ranting. Hate if you will I really dont give a flying fuck. PS. stop saying hes being racists haha are you even listening to him? He is talking about the white men who control the music industry. The emphasis on them being white is because its not fair for them to have so much influence on the destiny of rap when they have no roots on its culture and no respect for the craft.

Hey Scarface looks like your doing really well for yourself. You know I don't know if you knew this or not but "white" Caucasian people have struggles as well, "white" people come from poverty as well roughly 26,223,200 "white" people live in poverty today. What I'm getting at is people like Scarface and other "rappers" or producers etc. Need to stop segregating. People wonder why racism still exist? It works both ways people. Sincerely, An all race loving person spread the love!
