Scarborough Fair (Canticle) - Margherita Pirri
Музыка
'Scarborough Fair' is a traditional folk song and canticle. It became world famous thanks to Simon and Garfunkel's version, it owns a wonderful melody that makes us dream and forget about all sorrows.
Hope you'll enjoy my version, thanks to Yaroslav Shuraev for the beautiful shootings in the woods.
I wait for your comments..

Hi Margherita, this time you brought me to tears, remembering the day I held my beautiful young daughter in my arms while listening to Scarborough Fair by Nana Mouskouri. She was great but you surpassed her in this performance. Thank you so much for this exceptional performance and bringing back precious memories! 💥💔❤❤❤

It is clearly an English folk-song as Scarborough is in north Yorkshire which i can assure you seeing im from Harrogate The actual fair at Scarborough was an annual trading fair which lasted for 45 days starting on August 15. It was granted a charter in 1253, and ran until 1788 when competition from other fairs made it untenable. Traditionally, the herbs in the song have the following associations: parsley - festivity sage - wisdom & immortality rosemary - remembrance thyme - courage & strength The name can be traced back to the Middle Ages, when the northern English city of Scarborough was an important meeting place for merchants from all over England. A major 45-day trade show, from 1,253 to 1,788, called Scarborough Fair, The song was probably written in the 16th or 17th century. It is likely that it came from the Scottish folk ballad The Elfin Knight. After being transferred from city to city, it changed many times. Today it has 11 elements. The song is about a former couple of lovers who now set unsurpassed tasks between them to become a couple again. what counts is their effort. And that it can also be interpreted as an invitation to a man in his previous love, who asks him to take on seemingly impossible tasks, to try again for him or her. However, an unwanted pregnancy is possible. The refrain "Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme" initially does not make sense to a listener today, but has symbolic significance and can be considered as a request or prevention of an abortion for then. It is therefore also possible that as a Cambrian "Cymru" ( Wales ) theme the future child. The fact that they are ex-lovers also shows that the two are not married and makes the problem of the child between them clear. It also becomes clear that someone communicates in an encrypted way, after realizing the relationship and its consequences was considered a sin before the wedding, and it was a major scandal for that time. in-Teesdale, County Durham, England, sang "Scarborough Fair" to Ewan MacColl in 1947 Martin Carthy learned the song from MacColl and included it on his self-titled debut album in 1965. He taught the song to Paul Simon the same year and Simon & Garfunkel released his own version, which was extremely successful. Prior to that, Bob Dylan used Martin Carthy's version as the basis for his song "Girl from the North Country" from The Freewheelin's second album, Bob Dylan (1963).

You have a beautiful voice and you sing this beautifully. This might well be the most beautiful recording of "Scarborough Fair" I've ever heard. Well done for that. However - like most singers who cover it - you appear to have missed the point. It's not a beautiful song: it's a bitter and twisted divorce song. He says: "Tell her to make me a cambric shirt Without no seams nor needle work Then she'll be a true love of mine" In other words, "Make me a shirt without doing any sewing." She says: "Tell him to find me an acre of land Between the salt water and the sea strands Then he'll be a true love of mine" In other words, "Grow me a crop on the beach below high water mark." Both of these assertions are akin to saying, "When hell freezes over!" These characters are not in love: they hate each other.

Or it may be describing how humans are almost certainly incapable of receiving or giving truly flawless romantic love. This is a true sentiment. No such thing as immutable perfect love in romance.
Wow what a beautifully unique voice
