Scandinavian Canoe Adventure - 2 Brutal Days

The final 2 days of our Canoe trip through Norway were more brutal than we could imagine, kilometer portaging and rapids.

For the minor worries, those slightly darker berries are black crowberries, empetrum nigrum. They're okay to eat and can taste quite nice, but they have hard and large seeds within so you'll end up with something resembling coffee grounds in your mouth. So they're mostly used for cordials, wines and jellies. You can have taste, though. I'll say they're somewhere between sweet, juicy and bitter. You're right about cabins in national parks, as building cabins out in the wilderness is otherwise something of a business and it disturbs both the landscape and the local wildlife. And those crackers are traditional Swedish hardbread, just in a modern version. The traditional ones are made from whole grain rye and quite rough, but good if you get used to them and great for storage. The polar breads are a newer invention, they came when freezers became popular. The trick with them is they handle freezing and thawing well, so the shops can keep a stock of them in a freezer in the back room, only to take out a certain amount to be "fresh" for the day. Great when distances can often be an issue with those fresh baked breads. Thanks for sharing your experience through, I've wanted to do this myself and it's great to see how it is. Biggest change is, I'd give it another week and bring my fishing kit.

It would have been tiring enough with all the paddling you needed to do but all those portages well that makes it all the more difficult. Well done to the two of you Andy and Simon for completing what you set out to do. As hard and as trying as this trip has been once you get home and look back on it you'll be amazed at the beautiful sights and see just how far you went. WOW what an adventure. You will recover from the aches and pains and that is when you can sit back and enjoy the memories. 🙂

Some brutal trip in many ways Andy! I’m not sure if you ever come back to Sweden after this but if you do I think you really deserve some easier adventure. More of the bushcraff style camping closer to a car with supplies, great food and the warmth of a fire. There is still much to experience here and it doesn’t need to be such a struggle as your previous stays. Well done anyway with your achievement! I hope your gear could be saved!

I cap sized once while white water rafting while in Quebec, Canada. We were going over one of the more crazier rock dips or whatever they're called and sitting at the back I flipped over my foot got caught by a rock. The under tow threatened to pull me down but eventually I got myself out by remaining calm as possible. It was maybe two minutes but felt like 20. Terrified lol. Amazing videos. Sorry the trip wasn't as great as it should've been. Both you and Simon have been putting out brilliant content. Thank you.
