Watch as I share my beef with MrCool in this video. The obvious discrepancy between of false marketing and real cooling is an obvious shake down. From power tools to home improvement projects, you won't want to miss this party!

There was a difference in the two units you used as examples. They are both 18k heat pumps, but the one you bought has a 9k and 12k heat exchanger, and the one you pointed at has two 9k heat exchangers. While the total output of each is the same, the one you bought allows more cooling/heat to be allocated to one location. There are subtle differences you (and everyone else) needs to pay attention to with those units.

Absolutely correct, assuming one heat exchanger unit was not operating freeing up btu from the condenser. But if they are both running all the time, one heat exchanger is never achieving its max potential of cooling. . look at it this way, this difference in price for a 12k btu and 9k btu heat exchanger costs $1000 that can by only used when the other unit is off.

@@homesteadgarage I agree that the 21k claim on the one you got was misleading. I had noticed a similar discrepancy in how they report the units and considered it a bit sleazy, but it really does appear to be the resellers that do it. That said, they do seem to work well. You just have to pay attention to the details.

If you have 21K BTU of "air handler" and 18K BTU of compressor capacity how does that make sense at all? Is the air handler capacity even a consideration? Is the over-subscription of air handlers an issue?

They are plainly false advertising the system. Home depot and lowe’s is not playing that game. its the smaller drop shippers.

False advertisement brother!! They call it 21,000 BTUs. That way it looks like you're getting a better deal instead of buying what is really 18,000 BTUs 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

You are NOT in the wrong - the advertising is most certainly misleading. 21k BTUs should NOT appear in the marketing, and the rep from MrCool is complicit in this nonsense by trying to justify the misleading marketing. Take care and God Bless.
