Scaling a log pile the hard way - 118

Ғылым және технология

Figuring out how many cords of wood are in a pile of logs.
This is really doing it the hard way but I think it gives me an accurate number.
Formulas and process that I used for log pile estimating:
Log Length in decimal feet (ex. 14.5 ft)
Average diameter of log
Take two measurements on each end.
Add the measurements together and divide by 4 to get average.
Log radius = log diameter / 2
Log length inches = log length ft * 12
pi = 3.1415927
Log volume in cubic in = (log radius ^2) * pi * log length inches
Log volume cubic ft = log volume cubic in * 0.000578704
Log cords = log volume cubic ft * 0.0078124998874
Sample 10 logs or as many as possible.
Get the log volume in cords for the 10 logs.
Divide this number by 10 (or the number of logs sampled).
Multiply by the total number of logs in the pile.
If anyone wants a copy of my Python program, leave me a comment on the video.
