Thanks for the review. The driver is actually American, Mario Andretti, who was World Champion in 1978 in this car. His teammate, Ronnie Peterson, was tragically killed at Monza that year. Despite there still being four races in the season after Monza, Ronnie still finished second in the WC. It was an iconic car that introduced ground effects to the works of F1.

Love the wheels, they really stand out :)

It's a stunner

Wow they nailed this one. A beautiful model of arguably the most beautiful formula 1 of all time. I think its a must have for me. I was 10 in 1978 and this car just blew me away at the time and still does. Mario Andretti was actually born in Italy family moved to the US as a young bloke. Great review though, Im frothing over this one. Lol.

I actually used to do pencil drawings of that car as a kid - that is an Iconic Car - once seen it can not be unseen - they have done a really good job on it - The Back Tyres. Beautiful. Excellent I think it captures the Analog Spirit of the Era - the car - over detailing it would not be right - Great - The Essence is all there. Jeepers do I have to get Scalextric as well - Now? Surely someone here knows about these cars & there name ? Anyway for the race I wanted to like 500 other kids wanted to paint my car up like The Dukes Of Hazzard who didn't like Dukes back in those Days ? Heck if nothing else there was Daisy to stare at right ? So I told My Brother I wanted him to paint it like General Lee.And he told me do you want to have the same car as 20,30 other kids ? I said heck NO ! He said why don't you let me paint it up & you won't be disappointed ? I said sure My Brother has ALWAYS BEEN A BAD ASS PAINTER & HOBBYIST ! So the Day of the Race came ! I said ok where's My car ? He said close your eyes ok now open them.When I opened them in front of My eyes was a 1978,79 British Racing Green Lotus with Yellow & Gold accents ! He ask what do you Think ? I'm like this thing looks Great Brother Thank You So much ! He said ok now I can GUARANTEE You out of all these kids cars you will not see ANY British Racing Green ! He said your not gonna see any Green cars there ! Think about it Green & Brown is usually the last colors a kid wants or even thinks about ! Welp he was right on both accounts ! Now the General Lee he was right again ! There must of been at the least 20-30 of them ! Some looked good ,some bad ! Well needless to say My Lotus did not fare to well in the races ! All show & NO GO 😆. BUT GUESS WHAT I Did WIN ? The BEST LOOKING CAR ! My Brother had Hundreds of Slot Cars & ALOT of F1s & Indy Slots ! In fact he did some CUSTOM F1S & Indy's ! And they looked GREAT !BETTER THAN FACTORY IMHO ! In fact he did a Aurora Johnny Player Special & did it up Like a Lotus he did his F1 slot the week B4 my Balsa Race Car.When I seen that Lotus F1 In British Racing Green with Yellow Rims & accents WOW ! I went nuts over that car ! It was the FIRST EVER GREEN CAR I ever liked ! So there's always a place in my memory & heart for a Lotus F1 In British Racing Green ! He got me into Slots in 1979 When For Xmas I asked for just the TYCO NITE GLOW SET WITH SMOKY & THE BANDIT FIREBIRD & CHROME SILVER BOTH CARS HAD LIGHTS ! The track cost 60$ & was HUGE.MY Brother had 2 4x8 Sheets to put it on so it was essentially a 8;wide by 8 Long ! The ONLY PROBLEM Was the 2 JUNK CHASSIS That came under them 2 HP2 Chassis needless to say My Brother said you show me you'll take care of these I'll get you some of the fast chassis next Xmas 1980 ! So along came 1980 Xmas & I took GREAT CARE Of my cats while all my friends where crashing ,breaking them burning up tires & chassis etc,jumping them ! I did none of that I just learn how to drive as fast as I could but yet staying on the track ! So I asked Mom & Dad for the same exact set out of JC PENNEY XMAS CATALOG Got that Brother Helped me expand my setup up ! And since I took care of cars he got me Some Cars & 440 wide pan chassis that was under other Bodies ! To swap out under my 2 Firebird's ! And NEVER LOOKED BACK ! NEVER Ran ANYTHING BUT A 440X2 Chassis to this day !I can't remember all the cars he got me but some I can ! He got me The Yellow #3 935 Porsche 440 FAST ! ,A COUPLE FOXBODY MUSTANGS WHITE & BLUE NUMBER P23 MY FAVORITE CAR REMINDS ME OF MY REAL FOX 1993 COUPE 454 STROKER 4:56 GEARS FUN DRIVE STICKY MICKEY'S ON BACK ! Mine has the rare blue interior ! NOT MANY come with Blue Interior ! Still OWN BOTH TO THIS DAY SLOT & REAL FOX DAILY DRIVER Since 1999.STILL HAVE ALL THESE CARS ! CAN PICTURES BE POSTED HERE ? IF YES ILL TRY.AND in 1982 he got married & gave me his COMPLETE Collection of Slot Cars & Tudor Electric Football ! FUN TIMES , FUN TIMES LOVE YA BROTHER ! AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE GREAT TIMES & MEMORIES & HOT WHEELS !

Thanks Travis. Yes, it is a classic. In terms of fit and finish then it is not up with the latest Policar Ferrari 126 C2. I am glad you gave it a run and it is certainly better than I would have imagined with the guide being so far back. Ideally, manufacturers today should be aspiring to follow the further forward shallow guide with, say the Mr Slotcar Shadow. This is certainly better than the contemporaneous JPS Lotus cars Scalextric released back in the 1970s. I would say 'good' if you really still want one (I would have back in 1980) but here today it just doesn't have that awe and wow amidst everything else that's out there. If it inspires Maurizio to do a Policar and show us how it's done then it will have been worth this prototype effort.

Travis, love this car. I too am a F1 and Indy car fan. What about putting a digital chip in Mario’s car? I have Carrera’s digital system. Could you do a tutorial on either the new scalextric F1 McLaren’s or F1 Williams chipped to Carrera setup? What chip to use for those F1 cars? Thanks enjoy the videos.
