Sayonara Wild Hearts: The Kotaku Review
Ойындар
Sayonara Wild Hearts is a shining example of using a game’s design to say something meaningful while also making it look cool as hell. The game controls simply with the analog stick and a single button. What makes it stand out is its music, its look, and its mood.
Sayonara Wild Hearts releases September 19 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Mac, and iOS. Read Paul's full review here: kotaku.com/sayonara-wild-hear...

Bold of you to assume I have any friends to share this with!
This review seems to be the only one I've come across that gets this game. The plot is so high concept, and conveyed entirely in symbols, but it is deep, profound and wonderful. The rhythm gameplay is tight and perfect. Just watching someone else play and achieve continuous awesomeness on a gold run can give you goosebumps. It's truly great, we've been so blessed wirh games this year.
I *knew* IGN's review wasn't giving all the information I needed on the game. Thanks for this, Paul!
This is my favorite game of all-time. Not even joking. It made me literally laugh, cry, and changed my entire view on game length. Never felt so much with only 1 hour of gameplay
I'm just here a year later to say that I own the vinyl and regularly play the tracks, along with regularly playing the game itself still. It never gets old and its vibe is endlessly perfect.
I use my Apple Arcade trial just to play this game and it's totally awesome. At the end it made me cried.
I knew I felt off after watching the IGN review. This one resonates with and conveys my experience playing the game a lot better than any others I've seen. Great job!
Yess finally someone that gets it right. Seeing it as just a "repetitive runner game" is like saying RPGs are just about enemy encounters. It's awfully reductive. Thank you for making such an in-depth review!!
Was gonna give this a shot off the strength of Simogo’s track record alone, but this is making me ridiculously excited

Kaffeebohnson Yeah, it looks really different from their narrative-driven stuff like Device 6 and Year Walk, but they did Beat Sneak Bandit too, which I remember being pretty good, so I was confident they could deliver the goods on another rhythm game.

Kaffeebohnson this is late, but I literally cried when it was over. I’m hoping more levels come soon.
I think I have a new favourite reviewer
Zigzagging from side to side is the best way to play that part in parallel universe
I was bawling like a baby towards the end. Such a beautiful concept
Whoa, wasn't expecting a review of this, let a lone a glowing one.
You know Paul, I wasn't paying attention to the music either until you said it. And then it was like, whoa... That's a really neat touch!
This game is amazing and I'm genuinely sad I've already beat it.
I must say, the Parallel Universe segment was such a joy to discover when I first played the game that I'm really reluctant to share this review to friends because it completely spoils the surprise. It's a shame because I 100% agree with the reviewer. But IMO this game is too short to give so much explanations about one specific level.

Parallel was hands down my favorite part. I loved the end, as well, but in terms of a surprise Parallel Universe takes the cake. The music, snapping, and level design was all perfect.
Besides the awesome gameplay, amazing soundtrack and visuals, It has Queen Latifah narrating, that alone is reason enough to get this!
Crying out for VR implementation
I typically don't listen to this kind of music, but everything I saw of this game spoke to me. Got it on sale yesterday, finished it last night, and have just ordered it physically (while double dipping is something I don't usually do either). This game is such a sensory and emotional "overload" in a good way, I was literally crying at the end. But not sad, far from it even though the story hit home.
aaanndd I'm sold.
This game is amazing! Playing it on Apple Arcade since Monday and I can't stop playing it. Both Arcade and Main game are equally fun and YES, that parallel level is SOOOO good! Nothing beats the final level though, what a thrill it is!!
This game is an experience and a lesson on life
Great review!!! Your last lines were so cool! I'd say they captured the vibe of the game perfectly!
Maybe Suda51 should hire these guys 😎
I'm very happy that someone gave this game the review it deserves. IGN with their 7.9 out of 10 wasn't in the right place. This game will take some people 1 hour odd to beat and they'll put it away. For the rest of us we can comfortably invest 100+ hours just for pure personal satisfaction. I love this game so much I started listening to the tracks in my spare time so I could get more in tune with the levels. To call this a game about highscore alone is an understatement even though that's what it is on paper. Sayonara Wild Hearts is an emotional musical connection that you take a sample of only to want more or less of. I skimmed through all the games on the Apple Arcade and I'm so happy I gave this a chance. This is easily becoming my favorite game ever as I bought the PS4 version so I could start recording my gameplay and developing new strategies on improving my performance on the big screen. Playing on a mobile device is cool, but definitely never will work for me. I needed that gamepad so I used my PS4 controller on a Bluetooth connection. There weren't any other games on the Apple Arcade what I could see myself replaying like this one. I sure would love it if the developers make a sequel or if there's any other game out there even if it's just a fraction of being something like this.
At 2:22 that level is really tricky until you notice the patterns, however, all you have to do while they start to switch between 3 different "worlds" is zig zag from the right side of the map/screen to the left, and vice versa until that part of the level is completed. Don't really have to feel the music :P
When did Kotaku start doing video reviews? I dig it! And the 5-minute length is just long enough to get into the meat of the game without dragging on too long. Please keep it up!

Thanks! We're a tiny video team but every once in a blue we'll do a video review. I just happened to get a code for this in enough time and hustled on this edit in less than a day. So timing is everything!
Lol not many will get it but in the parallel Universe tricky part weli kinda easy just follow the hearts the big ones from Left to Right then second phase from Right to Left
Great review of a great game, spot on. Although that last level is crazy hard compared to the rest of the game.
Well done review! And the game looks truly stunning and fun as well. Can't wait to grab it. :D
Thanks Paul, this is a great review :)
مع انها قناه صغيره الا انها احسن من بعض القنوات العربيه الكبيره عندنا Keep Going man maybe some day u can one of best review's KZreadr
Acted on the instinct and pressed the like because of the beautiful review. Thanks
This game better be in the Game Awards
Been waiting to play a game like this for a long time. Almost 20 years since Space Channel 5 and Rez...
Amazingly worded review. Subbed
Excellent review, man
Finished it on switch. One of the best games this year, Love it
PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Mac, and iOS, but no PC? Is that accurate? If so, any differences between Switch and PS4?
Thought you were going to say "if that's not you're thing then Sayonara Wild Hearts is like 'sayonara'"
This art direction reminds me of Show It 2 Me VR. Possible for VR version? It's been three years and I wanna test my VR legs with this game
Finally a review I agree with 100%. An experience in pure pop magic.
Beautiful review, beautiful game!
Incredible game, absolute must play. Nothing quite like it and you cant put it down. Easily game of the year.
After being infuriated by IGNs review of this game I am so relieved that this review actually gets it.
good review, that final part really got me, good game, a bit short and lacking in gameplay but still a must play experience.
I love this game.
Not coming to Steam?
A man of culture I see.
Hey does anyone know what the music's called between 4:05 and 4:35? Can't seem to find it on the games soundtrack!

They did not use any track from the game in this review, except for the very last song which is called begin again.
Actually a good review 💜
Love everything about this game💕👌👍
good game and my fav one with battle with wolfs and skydive one as well
So much better written than ign review. Knowing the game, i felt every words.
I was hoping for a coop gameplay, but it doesn’t seem like an option, watching your gameplay. Please let me know otherwise!
The only levels I wasn't a huge fan of were the ones for the Hermit. After all of the high octane neon action of the previous levels, they just felt a little out of place. Besides that, it's a stellar game, though.
Woah!
I was lucky enough to get a new copy at best buy for $37 U.S. dollars. Reminds me of Tron.
I agree with the others... Good review, probably buying this right now. haha.
What about PC??
Oh so that's what this game is about
Here is the official music video for it as well. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gqStwcGupJzLcps.html
Can you just describe this game as a "pop album videogame"

Nah. This is an EXPERIENCE. You have to play the whole way through to get it, but this is a tale of heartbreak and self discovery. The whole thing flows, both in music and gameplay as such.
